THE 9TH SCROLL ISSUE #017 - SEPTEMBER 2019 GREAT GAMES OF ZAGJAN INFERNAL DWARF LAB UPDATE NØRDCON: TABLETOP 2019 EDITOR’S NOTE What a month in the 9th Age! ETC was amazing. My in- results were also good. We smashed Wales in “The itial plan was to play for Denmark, but as I didn’t make Gashes” 131-29 and I ended up second best HE player the cut I was picked up by Ireland. My initial thoughts after the master, Furion himself. We also finished as were that I would go and have fun and hopefully get the best home nation after England which is possibly to play on Team Denmark next year. Now, things are more important than anything else! different. After experiencing the ETC with Team Ire- land, I don’t want to play for another team! This is no slight to Team Denmark, but I had such a good time playing for Ireland that I feel slightly patriotic to my teammates and adopted ETC country! One further highlight was an interesting army from the German team (who actually won the tournament in style in the final round against Spain – congrats!). The days leading up to the ETC, with my Ammertime This army is made up of Lego models. It’s a little con- compatriot Casimir the Swede we travelled around troversial, but on reflection, I quite like the idea. It’s Serbia and played the ESC. Casimir with his Warriors clear what is what all the models represent, the army managed to win 2/6 of his games which was better is WYSIWYG and nicely based. -

Pocket Solar System Activity
UAMN Virtual Early Explorers: Amazing Earth Pocket Solar System Make a miniature model of Earth’s neighborhood! Our solar system is made up of the Sun and all the smaller objects that move around it, including eight planets and many dwarf planets, moons, asteroids, and comets. Materials Needed: Paper, ruler, scissors, tape or glue, colored pencils or markers. Instructions: Step 1: Cut strips of paper about 7.5 cm (3 inches) wide. Tape or glue them together to make a strip one meter (39 inches) long. Step 2: Draw the edge of the sun on one end of the paper, and the Kuiper Belt at the other end. Hint: Draw the edge of the sun as close to the end of the paper as you can. This will make the following steps easier. Step 3: Follow the steps on the Folding Instructions sheet to add planets and asteroids. Look at the What’s in the Solar System? sheet for pictures and descriptions of each one. For younger children, you can choose to draw all the objects, or just a few. Step 4: Try adding in moons orbiting the planets, comets and asteroids orbiting the sun, or spacecraft exploring the solar system. Be creative! These fruiting plants will tolerate occasional temperatures at or below freezing. Although many prefer temperatures not below 40 degrees F., all will fruit in areas with winter temperatures that get down to 32 degrees F. Some plants may need frost protection when young. Some will survive temperatures into the mid or low 20’s F. or below. Most of these plants have little or no chilling requirements. Chill Hours • As the days become shorter and cooler in fall, some plants stop growing, store energy, and enter a state of dormancy which protects them from the freezing temperatures of winter. (deciduous plants lose their leaves ) Once dormant, a deciduous fruit tree will not resume normal growth, including flowering and fruit set, until it has experienced an amount of cold equal to its minimum “chilling requirement” followed by a certain amount of heat. • A simple and widely used method is the Hours Below 45°F model which equates chilling to the total number of hours below 45°F during the dormant period, autumn leaf fall to spring bud break. These hours are termed “chill hours”. • Chill hour requirements may vary How a fruit tree actually accumulates winter from fruit type to fruit type or chilling is more complex . Sometimes what you need to reinvigorate a sense of wonder in your world can be found in the smallest of packages: A rune-inscribed parchment which describes the fall of an ancient city belonging to an empire which has been lost to the annals of history; fairy lights within the forest which escape description or explanation; a broken sword inscribed with the names of ancient heroes in the elder runes of elfish script. For your consideration, then, we offer 101 curious items. Some of these might be used as the key to unlock deeper mysteries, explore unknown depths, or provide the seed of untold adventure.
