Position Title: Director of Public Service

Position Summary: Due to a pending retirement, the City of Flat Rock is seeking a new Director of Public Services. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity. The department is responsible for streets, water/sewer distribution, stormwater management, forestry, vehicle maintenance, parks maintenance and event setup, maintenance on City buildings, snow and ice control and other public works related operations. This is an Administrative position but involves hands on and field work as well. The position reports to the Mayor and City Council.

The City of Flat Rock, (around 10,000 Residents), is a dynamic and fiscally-sound community. Flat Rock is a 6- square-mile, full-service municipality consisting of mainly residential and commercial developments, including the Ford Flat Rock Assembly plant, home of the and the recently announced Autonomous and Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Innovation Center. Flat Rock has a reputation for outstanding City Services and the Department of Public Service is regarded very highly by the citizens of the City. There are extensive investments being made in roads, water, and sewer infrastructure, and the City is currently completing an extensive sewer system study via a SAW grant. Flat Rock is known for its outstanding Recreational Facilities and Parks.

The Public Works Department has 16 full-time employees and several seasonal employees. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, public administration or related field or equivalent experience. A Professional Engineering license or MPA is preferred or a satisfactory combination of experience and training that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Candidates will ideally have 10 years increasingly responsible experience in public works operations with experience at the supervisory level. Candidates should possess at least a S2 Water license or have the ability to quickly earn one. The successful candidate will have strong oral and written skills, a team oriented approach to problem solving, and a demonstrated enthusiasm for working closely with the employees and the public.
