Page 3 of 115 Ford Motor Company photographs collection Archives (Ford Motor Company) photographs subgroup Photographic vertical file series Accession 1660 SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE This assembled collection consists of the most often used images relating to Henry Ford and Ford Motor Company. Started in the 1950s, these photoprints were gathered from larger photograph accessions (particularly Accessions 188, 189 and 833) and from miscellaneous sources. In many ways this collection forms a synopsis of the larger Henry Ford / Ford Motor Company photographic accessions. This file contains vintage as well as copy photoprints. Topics covered include an encyclopedic range of subjects concerning Henry Ford and his family from 1890 to 1955; a broad selection of Ford Motor Company products, buildings, activities, and subsidiaries from 1903 to 1955; and a sampling of automotive industry images other than Ford Motor Company (for views of automobiles other than Ford products see Accession 1671). This collection reflects Henry Ford's wide interests, and includes images of famous people such as actors, authors, kings, and scientists as well as his personal friends, John Burroughs, Harvey Firestone, and George Washington Carver (for Thomas Edison images see also Accession 1630). Henry Ford's interest in historic preservation at Botsford Inn and Wayside Inn also is covered (for images of Henry Ford Museum AND Greenfield Village see also Accession EI 1929). Some cities and towns are documented in this collection, particularly where Henry Ford's Village Industries, farms and homes were located and the sites of Ford Motor Company plants and branches. Michigan is particularly well represented because of the company headquarters in Detroit and Dearborn. Reflecting the activity of the Ford Archives in the 1950s many views of automobiles on city streets, country roads, and camping from the early decades of this century are part of this collection, gathered for Ford Motor Company's 50th anniversary advertising campaign, "The American Road." Additional topics include automobile exhibitions, Stout and Ford Tri-Motor airplanes, Ford Tractors and World War I and II defense production. Copy photoprints of graphics such as company advertisements and documents are also in the collection (for the original artifacts see Accession 19 for advertisements, and Accession 1, Accession 62, Accession 285, and other manuscript collections for the documents). The original subject arrangement was based on an idiosyncratic set of subject headings developed for use with the Ford manuscript collections. Beginning in 1986, the subject terms were changed to reflect Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division standards for subject arrangement. In 1987, a large portion of the photoprints in this collection was cataloged in The Henry Ford’s collection management system with a concomitant videodisc made of the images. The accession was previously known as the Archives Print Collection, the Reference Photofile, the Aircraft Subject Boxes, the Automotive Addendum, and the A Series Prints by Subject. Other Lincolns on display were William Clay Ford’s 1956 Continental Mark II convertible, several classic Lincolns from the twenties and thirties, and a 1956 Continental Mark II originally owned by Elizabeth Taylor. Originally the Western Region planned to have a special class as they did in 1995 but that plan was cancelled due to lack of participation. We are not sure how many, if any, Western Region members attended without cars. One Western Region mem- ber, Jim Ayres, did attend and took these photos. More of his photos appear on Lincoln Honored at Pebble Beach 2013 page 4. For the first time since its 75th Anniversary in 1995 Lincoln was one of the honored marques at the 63rd edition Left, of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance “Bubbltop,” the third weekend of August. CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Henry Ford College Board of Trustees was called to order on Monday, September 21, 2015, at the Henry Ford College Administrative Services and Conference Center at 7:02 p.m. by Chair McDonald. ROLL CALL On roll call, the following were present: Trustees Bazzi, Guido, Hammoud, Lane, Meade, Petlichkoff and Chair McDonald. There being a quorum, the meeting was declared in session. II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Resolution offered by Trustee Petlichkoff, supported by Trustee Meade, was adopted unanimously by those members present, that the minutes of the Regular HFC Meeting, August 17, 2015, be approved. Hearing no other corrections or additions, Chair McDonald attached a unanimous affirmative vote. III. RECOGNITION AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Recognition and acknowledgement items were read by Jessica Araj. Jessica is a second year Culinary Arts student and is also a full-time receptionist in the Office of Human Resources at the College. Holly Diamond, Executive Director of Enrollment Services and Registrar for Henry Ford College, received an invitation to deliver the keynote address at the annual, statewide conference of the Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (MACRAO) on November 9, 2015. Henry Ford College's Office of Admissions is hosting Discovery Day on Thursday, October 1 in the Student and Culinary Arts Center. Faculty, and other experts, will provide information about career opportunities and pathways, job opening projections and how students can maximize their time while enrolled at HFC. CITY MANAGER APPROVAL: ~ BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Since 2009, the City has contracted for civil engineering consulting services for public infrastructure projects using three pre-qualified engineering consultants. In a similar manner, staff is proposing the use of pre-qualified geotechnical consultants. The City current seeks proposals for geotechnical engineering each time it is required for a project, and entails field and laboratory testing of most materials typically used in civil construction. The geotechnical engineering consultants work closely with staff and the civil engineering consultant to provide technical expertise in both the planning phase and construction phase for public infrastructure projects. The use of pre-qualified consultants for engineering consulting has streamlined the engineering award process and provides a steady, consistent amount of work so that each firm can routinely provide qualified staff dedicated to Novi. The goals of the geotechnical pre-qualification would be the same. The Engineering Division completed the process to recommend two pre-qualified geotechnical consultants to be utilized for the planning and construction phases of public infrastructure projects. The attached Request for Qualifications was advertised publicly on January 17, 2014 to solicit two pre-qualified geotechnical engineering consultants.
