8 June 2004 Final exams 11 June 2003 Exam Results/End of semester vi HISTORICAL BACKGROUND 1 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Bilkent University was founded on October 20, 1984 by ˙Ihsan Dogramacı,˘ through the resolution of the foundations which had earlier been established by him. The establishment of this private university was later approved by an act of Parliament. The aim was to create a center of excellence in higher education and research. The name “Bilkent” exemplifies the founder’s aim, since it is an acronym of “bilim kenti,” Turkish for “city of science and knowledge.” It had long been an objective of the founder to establish a private university distinguished by its high quality education and research. The founder, himself an academician by profession, had earlier contributed to the establishment of numerous public institutions of higher learning and served as rector of Ankara University, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Middle East Technical University and founder and first rector of Hacettepe University. Preparations for Bilkent University had begun as early as 1967, with the purchase of a large tract of land to the west of Ankara. In the late 1970s and early 1980s the above mentioned foundations undertook construction, on the future site of Bilkent, of the buildings which now house administrative offices, the Faculty of Engineering, and the library. Construction of residences for academic staff, cafeterias, student dormitories, the Student Union building and various academic buildings followed in rapid succession. In October 1986 Bilkent University admitted its first students. That year there were 386 undergradu- ate and graduate students. Currently there are over 10,000 students in nine faculties, two four-year professional schools, two two-year vocational schools and the School of English Language plus six graduate schools (called institutes). Among them are foreign students from 72 countries. With funds from the endowments provided by the founder, the university each year awards full scholarships to over 2,500 students of high academic achievement.

Candidate drivers (n = 280) who had taken the ECODL as an e-test participated in the second stage.     Professor İhsan Doğramacı, Founder of the School 1915, Erbil – 2010, Ankara İhsan Doğramacı, founder of our school, was also the founder of Bilkent and Hacettepe Universities in Ankara, and founding president of the Council of Higher Education of Turkey. He served as Executive Director and President of the International Pediatric Association for a quarter of a century and for two terms as Chair of the Executive Board of UNICEF. Among many other accomplishments İhsan Doğramacı was, in 1946, a signatory to the Constitution of the World Health Organization, an institution he went on to serve for a number of decades. As well as being the founder of seven non-profit educational and health foundations, including the İhsan Doğramacı Erbil Foundation, İhsan Doğramacı started up and oversaw the development of major industrial enterprises, the sole purpose of which has always been to fund educational and philanthropic projects. 1 İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent Erbil College Farewell from the Chair of the School Board As one of the oldest continuously inhabited urban settlements on earth, Erbil is known for its rich history of tolerance and its capacity to bring together people of different backgrounds.     Expectations- Satisfactions- Needs of the Faculty of Fine Arts Students from the Design Programs and Solutions Eylem Tataroglu1 Abstract: It is clear that changeability of this situation concerning being the “producer” and “conscious consumer” individuals, as almost in every respect, fundamentally could be provided with qualified training, the other suitable conditions and use the economic resources suitably. Since this research focuses on the training aspect, the suitable conditions and resources are defined mostly with the training environment, the existing technology, environment and family facts. These facts are evaluated with the youths being center of the training or the students, depending on them and directly related to them. Considering the importance of the technology in the field of design and fast transformation of the animated cinema, it is obvious that current situation is quantitatively insufficient. In addition, when the ideals of the youths studying at design are also taken into consideration, it is thought that not only quantitatively, but also qualitatively the current situation falls short of meeting the expectations. The vision of Başkent University in the art and design education being candidate to share the honor proven in the science was evaluated regarding the current educational environment, instructors, course contents and environmental factor and opportunities with the ideals of the students registered to the Graphic Design Program dependent on the Department of Visual Arts and Design; the results related to the ideals of students and the success of the program and suggestions regarding the solution of the current problems were evaluated. It is thought that the study will serve as a base search and needs analysis and it could be assessed as data in all the improvements which will be made for faculty.
