“The Warburg Institute - founded by in at the end of the nineteenth century and exiled from Germany in 1933 - is the premier institute in the world for the study of cultural history and the role of images in culture. Initially concerned with the survival of classical antiquity in art, its range swiftly expanded. It is dedicated to the history of ideas, the dissemination and transformations of images in society, and the relationship between images, art and their texts and subtexts, of all epochs and across the globe.” (http://warburg.sas.ac.uk/home/about-the-institute/)

This scholarship from the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg serves to support scholarly projects requiring a sojourn for studies at the Warburg Institute, , for project realization. This scholarship is available to undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students enrolled at Universität Hamburg. In particular projects that have a broad cultural studies approach merit financial support. The scholarship can be extended for a second year.

The scholarship award is for EUR 1,374.- a month + necessary travel costs with receipt as well as reimbursement for University of London fees for tuition. Please submit with the application: • study plan for the scholarly undertaking, • account of your academic and scholarly background and development, • letter of recommendation from your academic advisor or supervisor.
