POLICY It is the policy of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to ensure that members of the MPD abide by laws that require the Department to make reasonable accommodations for the religious beliefs of those with whom its members interact in their official capacities. Thus, members of the MPD shall treat persons wearing religious head coverings or other articles of faith in a manner that is professional, respectful, and courteous. In general, persons wearing religious head coverings or other articles of faith shall be permitted to continue wearing them except when removal or confiscation is reasonably required for reasons of safety or security. II. DEFINITIONS For the purpose of this special order, the following terms shall have the meanings designated: 1. Member – Sworn or civilian employee or a member of the Reserve Corps. 2. Religious Head Covering – Articles worn on the head for religious purposes. They include, but are not limited to: a. Kippah (yarmulke) – Religious head covering worn by orthodox Jewish men; b. This study aimed to determine whether cultural background/product familiarity, gender, and/or age impacted consumer liking of three Waterford Blaa products and explored product acceptability between product-familiar and product-unfamiliar consumer cohorts in Ireland and the UK, respectively. Familiarity with Blaa impacted consumer liking, particularly with respect to characteristic flour dusting, which is a unique property of Waterford Blaa. UK consumers felt that all Blaas had too much flour. Blaa A had the heaviest amount of flouring and was the least preferred for UK consumers, who liked it significantly less than Irish consumers (p < 0.05). -

Kojo was born on the 5th April 2004, so that makes him 4 years old at the moment. Kojo is fit and healthy and he has plenty of energy. He is tall and just about the right size for a 4 year old and of course, his mum and dad think that he is just lovely! Kojo likes being outside either riding his bike, playing football and going to the park. He has lots of toys – but his favourites are his cars. Kojo just loves cars - small ones, large ones, fast ones, slow ones, electronic ones, push along ones, ones with wheels and even ones without wheels 3 Kojo just loves cars! 4 Kojo lives in a town called Newton, with his mum and dad. Kojo’s mum is called Pat and his dad is Samuel, but most people call him Sam for short. They are both from sunny Ghana, in West Africa, and they speak both English and Twi. They left Ghana many years ago, in 1990, and came to live and work in Britain, and now they live in Newton. Kojo’s dad is a chemist and before Kojo became their son, his mum worked on the computers in the College in Newton. -

It describes that part of the film industry with colorful, exaggerated, overly dramatic, music-and-dance-filled characteristics rather than this nation’s entire film making. In contrast to Hollywood, from which it takes its tongue-in-cheek name, Bollywood is no actual place; rather, it is the term that best describes a style of film making. Bollywood style in its broadest meaning is the mass media vehicle for entertainment that feeds some of the amusement needs of a population with a variety of languages and ethnic/caste backgrounds. Themes are simple and predictable for the most part, with a great degree of flexibility in the telling of even the most well known story in order to make a relevant point on a particular issue or current event. -

All That Glitters – Spark and Dazzle from the Permananent Collection co-curated by Janine LeBlanc and Roger Manley Randy and Susan Woodson Gallery January 23 – July 12, 2020 Through the ages, every human society has demonstrated a fascination with shiny objects. Necklaces made of glossy marine snail shells have been dated back nearly 135,000 years, while shiny crystals have been found in prehistoric burials, suggesting the allure they once held for their original owners. The pageantry of nearly every religion has long been enhanced by dazzling displays, from the gilded statues of Buddhist temples and the gleaming mosaics of Muslim mosques and Byzantine churches, to the bejeweled altarpieces and reliquaries of Gothic cathedrals. As both kings and gods, Hawaiian and Andean royalty alike donned garments entirely covered with brilliant feathers to proclaim their significance, while their counterparts in other cultures wore crowns of gold and gems. High status and desirability have always been signaled by the transformative effects of reflected light. Recent research indicates that our brains may be hard-wired to associate glossy surfaces with water (tinyurl.com/glossy-as-water). If so, the impulse drawing us toward them may have evolved as a survival mechanism. There may also be subconscious associations with other survival necessities. Gold has been linked to fire or the sun, the source of heat, light, and plant growth. The glitter of beads or sequins may evoke nighttime stars needed for finding one’s way. The flash of jewels may recall an instinctive association with eyes. In jungles as well as open grasslands, both prey and predator can be so well camouflaged that only the glint of an eye might reveal a lurking presence. -

Received: 25 September 2020; Accepted: 29 October 2020; Published: 2 November 2020 Abstract: Currently, most countries have to deal with multiple discrepancies that have arisen between the constraints of sustainable development and the return to traditions, involving food producers, as well as consumers, aspects that are also easily noticed in Romania. Thus, the main purpose of this study was to assess the nutritional quality of the Romanian traditional diet using a nutrient profiling method based on the Nutri-Score algorithm, applied to several representative Romanian traditional dishes. Because this algorithm has the capacity to highlight the amount (%) of fruits, vegetables, and nuts from a certain dish, it might be considered an indicator of the sustainable valences of the selected meals. The results showed that the traditional menus do not correspond to a balanced and sustainable eating behavior; thus, it is recommended to improve the Romanian pattern of food consumption and to ensure its sustainable basis. In order to achieve this goal, we propose the development of a new paradigm of the contemporary Romanian food style incorporating three main directions of action: acceptance, adaptation, and transformation. -

JOURNAL OF COMPARATIVE RESEARCH IN ANTHROPOLOGY AND SOCIOLOGY Copyright © The Author, 2020 Volume 11, Number 2, Winter 2020 ISSN 2068 – 0317 http://compaso.eu The production of the ‘New Romanian Cuisine’: Elite local taste and globalisation Adriana Sohodoleanu1 Abstract Under the attack of globalisation’s universalising force, food traditions become sites of cultural resistance (Poulain, 2017) in a recent worldwide phenomenon that saw the birth of a new type of restaurants gathered under the umbrella of a New Cuisine taxonomy. The interest in what such actors perceive as “roots” and “traditions”, their fear of alienation and their strong ethical and ecological awareness build an ethos that turns food production into a cultural phenomenon (Ferguson, 2004) and therefore into something good to think with (Levy-Strauss, 1963). The New Romanian restaurants position themselves as agents of change and nationalise the fine dining space according to their vision while setting up the local identity’s resistance to global forces and building a new meaning for Romanian restaurant food. I analysed the mechanisms that help instil or dilute ‘Romanian-ness’ and the motivations behind this process that claims to address a need expressed by the up-and- coming middle class. Keywords Identity, gastronomy, New Romanian Cuisine; Introduction This paper addresses a gap in the body of literature dedicated to the local food scene and it puts a new phenomenon such as the New Romanian Cuisine in a context.
