Brut. 59). Suada, um termo ligado a suavis, “doce, agradável”, é a contrapartida romana do grego peithó, palavra ligada a peíthein, “persuadir”, e a pithanós, “persuasivo”. A própria deusa Peithó favorecia os poderes de Aphrodite. Na prece cênica de Menandro, o dramaturgo pede: “Cara Persuasão, seja minha aliada e permita-me falar de modo vitorioso” (Men. Epit. 379-80). A persuasão é o principal objeto de estudo da Ars rhetorica. Para além do convencimento pelo argumento lógico, e muito distante do constrangimento pela força bruta irracional, a persuasão conquista as mentes e os corações. As Humanidades tradicionalmente se ocupam das relações entre o pensamento, a linguagem e a ação, e há algumas décadas métodos de análise do fenômeno da linguagem e da persuasão foram renovados e desenvolvidos. Com essa renovação de um tema muito caro a gregos e romanos antigos, o discurso, a narrativa e a persuasão voltaram à tona na pesquisa acadêmica. A Retórica, uma ars muito antiga de estudar a linguagem que comunica, expressando pensamentos e sentimentos, voltou a frequentar as discussões das Ciências Humanas e Sociais e da Filosofia, sendo aplicada à leitura e à interpretação de discursos verbais, textos, imagens e espetáculos músico-teatrais variados. Ligando estilo e argumentação, a Retórica lida com palavras, gestos e imagens, unindo a forma e o conteúdo. Em outras palavras, a forma é tão importante quanto o conteúdo de um discurso. A forma é parte da argumentação e, em alguns casos, a forma é o argumento. Este Dossiê se originou de um curso ministrado em conjunto por Anita Almeida e Claudia Beltrão (DH/PPGH-UNIRIO) para estudantes de graduação e de pós-graduação. Reunindo artigos produzidos por graduandos, mestrandos e doutorandos da UNIRIO, UFRJ e UFRRJ, o Dossiê oferece uma série de estudos de casos em variados termos documentais, temáticos, temporais e espaciais. Da análise do discurso de rendição do imperador japonês Hirohito no contexto da II Guerra Mundial (Ian Moura – UNIRIO) à biografia moralizante de Alexandre Magno pelo filósofo e escritor Plutarco (Lucas Ferreira – UNIRIO), passando por um trecho em que Júlio César narra como lidou com DOSSIÊ RETÓRICA E NARRATIVAS & VARIA 3 Humanidades em Revista - CCH UNIRIO ISSN 26746468 DOSSIÊ RETÓRICA E NARRATIVAS & VARIA uma ameaça de motim de suas tropas (Amanda Borges – UFRJ), a análise retórica de discursos político-moralizantes revela sua força persuasiva em um arco temporal muito extenso. O complexo debate sobre a alma humana, criado pelo mais-que-famoso orador Cícero, é aqui revisitado e revela aspectos do pensamento religioso romano que permanecem muitos atuais (Paulo Márcio Feitosa – UNIRIO). E a religião se une a questões políticas na correspondência entre o metropolita João II de Kiev e o papa Clemente III, no século XI, em um momento crucial da história do cristianismo, revelando uma “retórica do sagrado” (Leandro Neves – UFRJ). Não apenas palavras, mas objetos materiais também são potencialmente persuasivos, e a iconografia de uma moeda romana é analisada como emissora de significados político-religiosos (Guilherme Muharre – UNIRIO). Três contribuições lidam com a narrativa fílmica e documentários, trazendo elementos músico-teatrais ao debate, como a análise dos elementos persuasivos de um documentário de Franz Capra para a compreensão da ação e do discurso político estadunidense (Marília Monitchele – UFRRJ), o artigo orientado por nossa homenageada, Prof. Leila Beatriz Ribeiro (DPTD- PPGMS-UNIRIO), analisando uma narrativa fílmica que concentra a atenção do espectador

COURSE DESCRIPTION The objective of this class is to open a window for students to Chinese culture and society by using film as a tool. In this class, we will read the selected films both as “cultural texts” and as artworks. Before each screening, a lecture on related cultural topics will be given, such as the introductions to Chinese philosophy, Chinese history, traditional customs, etc., to help students build a better understanding of the film to be screened. Class discussion will also be conducted after lectures and screenings. All the films will be screened with English subtitles and the course will be conducted in English. (HKSE:1970) today announced that Paramount Pictures’ Bumblebee grossed ¥43 million ($6.1 million) in 587 IMAX theatres this weekend, representing one of the company’s best January performances. IMAX’s share of the total box office was more than 10% of all receipts for the film. Additionally, the strong performance of Hollywood titles such as Paramount’s Bumblebee and DC/Warner Bros. Pictures’ Aquaman and Sony/Marvel’s Venom propelled the IMAX China box office to an increase of 40 percent over the last two months compared to last year (November 3, 2018-January 3, 2019). “Closing out the year so strongly and kicking off 2019 with such a solid start from Bumblebee across IMAX® theatres, is an encouraging reflection of our company’s performance in China,” said Jiande Chen, CEO, IMAX China. “We continue to offer consumers a differentiated entertainment experience, translating the filmmaker’s vision like no one else can.” IMAX ended 2018 with a record December box office led by Aquaman which reached ¥186.48 million ($27.23 million) and marked the biggest selling IMAX title in China among all titles released in the fourth quarter.
