Department of Science and Technology Annual Report for the FY 2019-‘20

INTRODUCTION Science and Technology (S&T) is the most powerful engine of growth and development in the present knowledge-based economy. It has profound effect on the way we live, largely through technological advancements. In everyday life, we enjoy various gifts of S&T that have made our life easier and more comfortable. Hence, development of S&T is particularly important so as to raise the standard of living, to eradicate blind belief & superstitions, create wealth as well as to ensure sustainable utilization of natural resources and conservation of biodiversity.

In this context, mainstreaming of science and technology in all areas of development is necessary so as to enable harnessing scientific advancements and technological innovations for societal good, particularly in rural areas.

Hence, it is necessary to disseminate information about scientific advancements to bring scientific awareness and to develop scientific temper across the society to provide impetus to uplift the living standards of rural people. In addition, scientific awareness can strengthen and empower the entire social fabric as well as to help in achieving overall development of people in an increasingly competitive global market.

Towards this, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) through its following ten subsidiary organizations has been promoting science and technology to empower citizens as well as to build more inclusive, informed and sustainable society across the state: 1. Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS) 2. Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) 3. Karnataka Science and Technology Academy (KSTA) 4.
