It was premiered at their summer concert in June 2017, conducted by John Pickard. Duration: c.9’ Instrumentation Piccolo 2 Flutes 3 Oboes 3 Clarinets in Bb (I & II = Clarinet in Bb, III = Bass Clarinet) 2 Bassoons Contrabassoon 4 Horns 3 Trumpets in C 2 Trombones 1 Bass Trombone 1 Tuba Timpani – 1 player Percussion – 3 players Player 1: Suspended Cymbal, Mark Tree, Toms Toms (high, medium, low), hand held Cymbals Player 2: Tubular Bells, Crotales, Marimba, Xylophone, Triangle, Bass Drum Player 3: Glockenspiel, large Tam Tam, Snare Drum, Harp Piano Strings (16, 14, 12, 10, 8) Performance notes Woodwind A crossed note head (x) indicates a very breathy note. Flutes should include some of the indicted pitch. All other woodwind should produce a breathy sound with no pitch. The player is sometimes asked to perform a glissando. This should be executed by moving rapidly and chromatically between indicated pitches. A triangular note head (as at bar 92) is used to instruct the player to play any high or low note (depending on direction). Phrases in boxes (as at bar 96) should be repeated freely until the horizontal arrow’s indicated point. These phrase should gradually get slower. Brass A crossed note head (x) instructs the player to produce a breathy sound with no pitch. The player is sometimes asked to perform a glissando. This should be executed by moving rapidly and chromatically between indicated pitches (as far as is possible) A triangular note head (as at bar 92) is used to instruct the player to play any high or low note (depending on direction).
