Everest Base Camp Trek in Aid Of Everest Base Camp Trek in aid of Page 1 Trekking in Nepal Everest Base Camp Everest Base Camp Trek Length: 12 days (plus 3 days in Kathmandu) Cost: £2850 per person (subject to change depending on currency change) The Everest Base Camp Trek is the trek to the top of the world. Ranging from 2610m (Phakding) to 5550m (Kala Patthar), this trek is best way to see some of the most famous Himalayan peaks: Ama Damblam, Lhotse, Nuptse, and of course, Mount Everest. The trek lasts for 11-12 days depending on the weather and how busy the route is. The route itself is not difficult and this trek is suitable for people of all ages, abilities, and all levels of previous trekking experience. Page 2 Below is a sample itinerary for a trek to Everest Base Camp. Naturally, all itineraries are subject to change depending on weather conditions and the individuals involved. EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK (11-12 days) Day From/To Length Details 1 Flight from Kathmandu to 30 mins The first day’s trek will take you down 130m and is a gentle Lukla (2840m). introductory day to your trek. Trek to Phakding (2610m). 3-4 hours On arrival at Lukla you will have breakfast in a local lodge, after which you will push on towards Phakding. You will eat lunch at your lodge after arriving in Phakding. Lukla Airport (2840m) 2 Phakding (2610m) to 6 hours Day two will take you to ‘The Gateway to Everest’ – Namche Namche Bazaar (3440m). Bazaar. It is the most modern village on the route, complete with internet cafes, banks, and shops. The first half of the walk is a relatively gentle one to Jorsale, just inside the Sagarmatha National Park boundary. Here you will have lunch. After lunch the walk will take you across the Larja Bridge and up to Namche Bazaar. If it is a clear day, you may well get your first view of Everest on the way up to Namche. Page 3 First view of Mount Everest near Namche (3440m) 3 Acclimatization day 3-4 hours Day three will be your first acclimatization day. On this day you will walk to Syangboche and Khumjung. Walk to Syangboche Syangboche is the home of what used to be the highest (3720m) and Khumjung airport in the world. Small planes still fly in and out of (3780m). Syangboche regularly. Khumjung is a village famous for its monastery – the Khumjung Gompa. This monastery houses what some believe to be a Yeti skull, which you can see for a small donation. Khumjung is also home to a school build by Sir Edmund Hilary. On a clear day, this walk will give you good views of Thamserku (6618m). Khumjung Village (3780m) Page 4 4 Namche Bazaar (3440m) to 6 hours Day four will take you north to Tengboche, home of the Tengboche oldest monastery in the Everest region. The route will give (3860m)/Deboche (3820m). excellent mountain views on a clear day, including Ama Dabam, Lhotse Shar, Thamserku, and Lhotse. You will stop for lunch by the river in Phungi Thanga before heading uphill to Tengboche. Tengboche Monastery (3860m) 5 Tengboche (3860m) to 5 hours The walk to Dingboche will take you straight up the valley Dingboche (4410m). past Ama Damblam (6814m). You will stop for lunch at Shomare. By this point you will have left the area in which there is enough oxygen for fully-sized trees to grow. Now the vegetation will be predominantly shrubs and bushes. This walk will also give you your first views of several glaciers, including the Churo Glacier. Ama Damblam (6814m) Page 5 6 Acclimatization day 3-4 hours For your second acclimatization day you will walk up to a glacial lake above Dingboche called Kyubo Kharka. The lake Walk to Kyubo Kharka is at the base of Amphu Gyabjen (5630m) and from here you (4700m). will also have excellent views of Ama Dablam and possibly a few more peaks further north. Kyubo Kharka (4700m) 7 Dingboche (4410m) to 5 hours The walk to Lobuche will take you northwest to a rest point Lobuche (4910m). at Thokla (4620m). After this there is a steep uphill section to take you through the Thokla Pass (4830m). This part of the trek will give good views of the peaks to the east including Tabuche, Cholaste, and Arakam Tse. At the top of the Thokla Pass you will come across the impromptu memorial site for those who have died on Everest. There are many small stupas and memorials for people, or groups of people, who have lost their lives while attempting to reach the highest point on Earth. After the Pass you will skirt the Khumbu Glacier and pass Awi Peak (5245m) all the way to Lobuche. As you will arrive in Lobuche at lunchtime, after eating you will walk up to the lip of the Khumbu Glacier just next to Lobuche. This will give you excellent views of the Glacier, which runs all the way from Thokla to Everest Base Camp. The Khumbu Glacier is also the highest glacier on Earth, with elevations ranging from 4900m to 7600m. Page 6 Thokla Pass (4830m) 8 Lobuche (4910m) to Gorak 4 hours On day eight you will continue along the edge of the Shep (5140m) Khumbu Glacier up to the highest village in the world, Gorak Shep. By this point there is no vegetation, and the landscape is entirely glacial. This can make the walk tricky in places. Walk to Everest Base Camp 4 hours After eating lunch in Gorak Shep, you will continue on to (5364m) Everest Base Camp. At Base Camp you can see large boulders that have been signed by visitors and have had various flags hung on them. Depending on the season, you may also get to see some expedition tents. Everest Base Camp (5364m) 9 Climb peak at Kala Patthar 4-5 hours On day nine you will get up at 4am and climb the peak to the (5550m). east called Kala Patthar. This will most likely be the high point of your trek, both literally and metaphorically. If the weather is clear, you will be able to see the sun rise over the Himalayas and you will be given excellent views of Mount Everest and the other mountains around it, including Lhotse, Lhotse Shar Nuptse, and Ama Damblam. Page 7 Descend to Pheriche 7 hours Once you have returned to Gorak Shep and had breakfast, (4240m). you will begin your descent and walk down to Pheriche, stopping for lunch in Lobuche. Descending is considered by most people to be more difficult than ascending, so be prepared to take your time. View of the Himalayan range from Kala Patthar (5550m) 10 Pheriche (4240m) to 6-7 hours The next day you will continue your descent back down to Namche Bazaar (3440m). Namche Bazaar. On this day you will stop for lunch at Deboche/Tengboche. 11 Namche Bazaar (3440m) to 7-8 hours On day eleven the descent will take you all the way back Lukla (2840m). down to Lukla, where you first landed.     SLEEPING IN EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK ITINERARY Taking the journey to the base of the World’s highest peak, with our award-winning team, will be the highlight of any trekkers career! Our unique itinerary includes extra acclimatization at the critical point as well as 4 guides for every group of ten trekkers. The journey in the Everest Region, also known as the Solukhumbu Region, begins in the small village of Lukla.     Everest Base Camp Trek 12 D/11 N Pre Trek: Travel to Kathmandu (1,300m): ​ To ensure all permit paperwork and other necessary arrangements are completed before you trip it is important that you are in Kathmandu at least 24 hours prior to the trek commencement. The local operator will contact you to collect the required documents early in the afternoon. At 5:00 pm (17:00) a rickshaw will pick you up from your hotel and bring you to the trekking offices for a safety briefing on the nature of the trek, equipment and team composition. You will meet your trek leader and other team members. You can also make your last minute purchases of personal items as you will be flying to the Himalayas tomorrow. At 6:00 pm (18:00) we will make our way to a welcome dinner and cultural show where you will learn about Nepali culture, music and dance and get to know your trekking team.
