From there, you will be provided with a transfer to the hotel in Hautes- Pyrénées (High-Pyrenees). A bit later, our team will help you to set up your bicycle. An enjoyable picnic lunch will be served, after which, we will take off for a warm-up climb - Hautacam. This climb is used by the Tour quite often in last few years. In the evening, you will be invited on welcome dinner in a selected restaurant to enjoy the Pyrenean meal. Strava map https://www.strava.com/routes/7016088 Day 2 - Monday, July 10 ROUTE ACCOMMODATION ACCOMPLISHED Our favorite climb in the Pyrenees – Col d’Aubisque Selected hotel in Argelès- Distance 75 miles / 122 Col du Soulour => Col d`Aubisque => Col du Soulour Gazost km from Asson (optional) Elevation gain 12 140 ft / 3,700 m 2 We will ride our favorite climb of the French Pyrenees today. The views at the top of Col d`Aubisque are fantastic. Luckily our photographer will be there to get great pics of you. Strava map https://www.strava.com/routes/7016131 Day 3 - Tuesday, July 11 ROUTE ACCOMMODATION ACCOMPLISHED Col du Tourmalet - the most famous climb in the Selected hotel in Saint- Distance 53 miles / 86 km Pyrenees Lary-Soulan area Elevation gain 10 830 ft / 3,300 m Col du Tourmalet => Hourquette d'Ancizan It`s time for the most legendary climb in the Pyrenees. The Tour went into the mountains for the first time in Y1910 and Stage 10 in that year included five brutal climbs: Col de Peyresourde + Col d’Aspin + Col du Tourmalet + Col du Soulor + Col d’Aubisque. The Alps appeared in the Tour only one year later. The Tourmalet has already appeared in the Tour 81 time!!! Let`s ride it! We will take a coffee stop and the top of the Tourmalet where you still can see some bikes from Y1910. Strava map https://www.strava.com/routes/7016171 Day 4 – Wednesday, July 12 ROUTE ACCOMMODATION ACCOMPLISHED Beauty of the Pyrenees Selected hotel in Ore Distance 69 miles / 112 Lac d'Orédon => Col de val Louron Azet => km Peyragudes => Col de Peyresourde Elevation gain 11 810 ft / We will keep riding to explore more of the Pyrenees. Our 3,600 m first climb will be the lake of Ordeon – a dead end must- ride climb. We will cross Col de val Louron Azet before to get at the top of Peyragudes – the summit finish of tomorrow`s Stage 12. We will hit Col de Peyresourde going down to our hotel. Strava map https://www.strava.com/routes/7028399 3 Day 5 - Thursday, July 13 ROUTE ACCOMMODATION ACCOMPLISHED Tour de France LIVE Selected hotel in Ore Distance 43 miles / 70 km Port de Bales (TdF LIVE) Elevation gain 5,580 ft / It`s the day you will witness the Tour LIVE. The Stage 12 1,700 m route goes along our hotel and we will take it just few hours before the pros come and climb Port de Bales. We will stop at HC Bike Tours race viewing area to have picnic and watch the race LIVE. We will ride down back to the hotel when the last rider will be gone away. Dinner and get ready for your last day in the Pyrenees. Strava map https://www.strava.com/routes/7028458 Day 6 - Friday, July 14 ROUTE ACCOMMODATION ACCOMPLISHED TdF Stage 13 Start LIVE Selected hotel in Ore Distance 77 miles / 125 km Col des Ares => Col de Portet d'Aspet => LIVE Stage 13 Elevation gain 9,510 ft / Start in Saint-Girons => Col de Menté 2,900 m We will head to Saint-Girons today to see the pros on the start line of Stage 13. We will climb two famous climbs on our way to Saint-Girons including nasty Portet d'Aspet and we will hit spectacular Col de Menté on our way back to the hotel. Let`s have excellent farewell dinner tonight. Je krijgt hiermee een inkijkje in het prachtige, maar minstens zo uitdagende project wat ik in mijn hoofd gehaald heb. Ik begin aan de zwaarste sportieve uitdaging die ik ooit bedacht of geprobeerd heb. Of het niet té uitdagend is en hoe ik me gedurende de Tour zal voelen, vind ik nog een beetje spannend. Maar alleen al door de energie die ik er van heb gekregen sinds ik besloten heb deze uitdaging aan te gaan, is het nu al mijn beste beslissing van het jaar. Dat dit Tourboek bestaat, is daar het gevolg van. De voorpret die ik inmiddels heb gehad bij het opstellen hiervan is zo groot, dat dit alleen al zeer de moeite waard geweest zou zijn als ik nu geen enkele etappe zou starten. Waar ik vroeger schriftjes en plakboeken bijhield van de Tour de France op TV, kon ik nu een Tourboek maken over mijn eigen Ronde van Frankrijk: twee hobby’s komen hier samen. LIGHTNING ENDURANCE Als disclaimer vermeld ik graag ten eerste dat ik geen enkele pretentie heb een SPORTS NUTRITION unieke prestatie te leveren mocht dit project slagen. Er zijn mij al vele amateurs voor gegaan die een soortgelijke uitdaging hebben voltooid. Of ik het sneller of langzamer, in meer of minder etappes of met meer of minder begeleiding doe weet ik niet en vind ik ook niet interessant.
