Martin | 352 pages | 10 Nov 2011 | SIMON & SCHUSTER | 9781451607154 | English | New York, United States The Romulan War: To Brave the Storm PDF Book Enlarge cover. Humanity is now the only thing that stands between the Romulan Star Empire and total domination of the galaxy. The book is maddeningly unclear. Instead of comprehensively covering each of the major plot points as the story progressed, I deliberated long and hard over the rating of this book. Average rating 3. To Brave the Storm is a bit different than the rest of the books in the Romulan War series in that it is more action heavy and attempts to resolve all open story threads. My disappointment with these books continues. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. All the more-so because the final pages of the book seem to read like not just an ending to this Romulan War story-line, but to the entire Enterprise story-line as well. NOOK Book. Four stars or five? I loved the origin of the prefix codes. Whereas the previous books in the series strived to set up the ongoing war, this one pulls it all together and ties it up. Months will sometimes pass between entries, and it's frustrating to not have the whole picture. Resources and Downloads. I was really happy with the ending though, really happy. There is a lot about the book that I really enjoyed. I suggest that you get all 4 volumes at the same and read them straight through. I also really worry that this spells the end of the Enterprise novel line, which is unfortunate as there is still a rich history to cover and many gaps to fill. Star Trek: S. Archer is hinted at becoming president of the Federation one day. Twenty-five years later, a journalist attempting to track T'Pol down for an interview catches a glimpse of the officially dead Tucker with her and their two children, posing as the family gardener. With the rest of the Coalition having withdrawn from the war with the Romulans , Prime Minister Nathan Samuels chooses to conduct a purely defensive war. Don't read this if you have not read all post series Enterprise novels. The writing and the care with the original research are well over average which is the main reason for my good grading of the book, but it would not have taken magic to turn a well written book intro an extraordinary one and much of this missing impact is IMO to charge towards the editors which have decided that a single book of pages would be enough to cover this wide field. Humanity is now the only thing that stands between the Romulan Star Empire and total domination of the galaxy. Slightly better than the last book, but it still has a lot of problems. This is absolutely ridiculous. All these and other plot elements come to their conclusion in this final volume. I'd think that the story that could have been told and the willingness of the Enterprise fans to buy such books would have justified at least a five parter and maybe even a whole series like the "Time to" or Gateway titles - if need would have been there even with installments in the nearly related series for TOS, Vanguard or SCE dealing with aspects and persons that would reach further than only the ENT cast and landscape. Jan 02, Dan rated it it was ok Shelves: star-trek , e-books , ent. Format aside, I felt that the first half of the book was good, but nothing particularly special. How that plays out and the role that Trip Tucker and Jonathan Archer play is what drives this fourth and final book. Has she made peace with it? Undaunted, the captain keeps fighting, searching for allies and determined to do his duty: to save Earth and forge a new federation of planets. Over two hundred years ago, the life of one of Starfleet's earliest pioneers came to a tragic end, and Captain Jonathan Archer, the legendary commander of Earth's first warp-five starship, lost a close friend. New arrivals. Which is frustrating because I really want to know how things turned out. Trivia About The Romulan War The Romulan War: To Brave the Storm Writer In the last book at least, we were treated to some world-building that showed us areas of the Star Trek universe we hadn't really been exposed to, but here that is all but tossed aside. Each work can stand independently, but it definitely more fun to read them in the order they were meant to be read. There is some character bits, especially with T'pol and Trip. After my enjoyment of the first book in the series I was really looking forward to reading this one. This book is not yet featured on Listopia. Andy Mangels. At the climactic Battle of Cheron, the Earth fleet is saved twice by the sudden appearance of allied ships. I was hoping for an explanation or rational for Starfleet only using nuclear weapons, but I guess the other vessels had nuclear weapons and Spock only mentioned that it was MOSTLY found with primitive subatomic weapons. Such terrible treatment for such a seminal moment in Star Trek history. Add to Wishlist. Josh is Blown Away by the 25th Anniversary Screening My biggest complaint is with how the whole thing with Trip was handled in the end. Nov 28, Aaron rated it liked it Shelves: star-trek. More filters. I so looked forward to this one and would deeply enjoy having more stories from this series. Enlarge cover. This does not make a big impact here. More Details Star Trek: S. Overview The Romulan Star Empire engages in all out war against Earth, determined once and for all to stop the human menace from spreading across the galaxy. Unlike the previous installments, To Brave the Storm is more action heavy and features several engagements with Romulan forces. Javascript is not enabled in your browser. Really loved this book. Take out as many of your enemies as possible? I think it could have gone into more depth and still been just as readable.. But the tattered remains of Starfleet stand unwavering, with the resolution that never again would any enemy strike ever reach Earth. Nothing could recreate the heartbreak of his apparent death on the TV show anyhow. Desperate battles are fought as the Romulans continue to take systems closer and closer to Earth. Only the Starship Enterprise is fast enought to stop the production of a second Xindi weapon. It was also a big let down to see such a narrow focus on just the main characters and events considering the previous novel had done such a great job in giving a more panoramic view of the war and it how it affected everyone, including regular citizens. You may also like: Fiction Staff Picks. The Romulans favorite tactic is to crash their ships into planets at warp speeds causing tremendous devastation. An astonished reporter meets a human male in the house's garden and is then politely sent away by two kids, recognizing that against all odds and in spite of all rumors Commander Tucker has returned to the side of his T'Pol. Four stars or five? Or so it seemed for many years. I started reading the books because I felt so unsatisfied with the stupid ending to the TV series. There are tons of little Star Trek references and easter eggs that are fun to spot. The Romulan War: To Brave the Storm Reviews The Vulcan parts are very well done and add more to the culture of Vulcan. In addition, the narrative jumps months and event years in between chapter which spoils both the flow of the novel and the ability of the individual scenes to sink in emotionally with a reader. Each work The final battles of the Earth -Romulan war. We'll see Sep 02, Holly 2 Kids and Tired rated it liked it. Uh-oh, it looks like your Internet Explorer is out of date. But there are flowers and other plants at the end too! In the wake of an incident involving Nov 22, David Johnston rated it it was ok. The story wraps up with the formation of the Neutral Zone and the creation of the Federation of Planets both of which are very familiar to fans of the Star Trek universe. THAT part of the book is more than excellent and would have justified even a full five stars. By clicking 'Sign me up' I acknowledge that I have read and agree to the privacy policy and terms of use. But still they're the stronger foorce in the system and any fight of attrition must leave the Allies annihilated and the Romulans with a free flight path to the Core worlds. A second such weapon could destroy the entire planet. He lives with his wife, Jenny, and their two sons in Portland, Oregon. It really killed the enjoyment of the book. Then again, considering characters such as Mayweather, Sato, Phlox and Reed got hardly a mention either it probably isn't surprising that Martin didn't have room to fit in a more epic look at the war.

  • “Kobayashi Maru” by DEACON/SEMINARIAN LOIS SORENSEN
“Kobayashi Maru” BY DEACON/SEMINARIAN LOIS SORENSEN As Christians, especially as Evangelical Lutherans, we say we preach the “good news”. But where is the “good news” in today’s readings (other than the psalm)? From the farmer-turned-prophet Amos, we hear how he was told to vacate the premises after he spoke truth to those who did not want to hear it. And from the writer of Mark, we get Herod’s flash-back to the beheading of the John the Baptist (after John spoke a truth that Herodias did not want to hear). Those stories sound like “cost of discipleship” messages rather than “good news” (don’t ‘cha think?) As I prepared today’s homily, I wondered if I had “missed something” about the readings, so I consulted with a few colleagues but they were all were facing the same quandary. Then I consulted with some commentaries (essays about the readings written by biblical scholars) and alas one commentator even came right out and said, “Maybe there is no good news this week”. The next thought that came to my mind was: “Kobayashi Maru”. Trust me, that is not swearing in Greek or some other language (at least, not that I am aware of) although, for a fleeting moment, I certainly wanted a “word or two” with Pastor John for giving me this particular preaching date! “Kobayashi Maru” is a nerdy way of calling something a “no-win scenario” and, if you are “into” science fiction at all, you might recognize it as a Star Trek reference. You see, every command-eligible cadet at Star Fleet Academy must take a certain training exercise in a simulator of the bridge of a starship (like the Enterprise) which part of our Sanctuary bears some resemblance to, by the way.

My own small contribution to this legendary story has continued to be a source of great pride to me during my career, and although I have been fortunate enough to have many other projects to satisfy the artist in me, I have nevertheless always felt a deep and visceral connection to the show. But there are reasons why this never- ending story has endured. I have always believed that this special connection to Star Trek we all enjoy comes from the positive picture the stories consistently envision.

Where no man has gone before… - The Enterprise Sourcebook - To boldly go... This sourcebook lets you take part on the bold voyages of the starship Enterprise. Enterprise is the first human ship able to break through the ‘magic’ barrier of a Warp 5 velocity and so the unbelievable vastness of space comes in to reach of mankind. Enterprise is about humanity’s adventure of exploring space. But it also is about the responsibility, which comes with technological advance as well as conflict even between actually friendly species like the Vulcans and the Humans. It is about the bold steps to be taken to ultimately form the United Federation of Planets and describes the long, dangerous way to it. 2 where no man has gone before Earth Earth, the once to be capital of the UFP, is quite different from what it will be in the future. With the World War III not too long ago, the long- lasting effects of this war are still sensible. Thanks to the Vulcans the more dramatic side effects of nuclear weapons could be prevented, as they helped to stop genetic mutations and vicious diseases like cancer. 1.1 History Earth had several more or less advanced high cultures in the past, among them the Egyptians, the Romans and Aztecs. After the fall of the Roman Empire in the 5th century A.D., the Middle Ages or more appropriate the Dark Ages began. Humanity raged in war against each other and several powerful Empire rose and fell during that time. In the 16th century, humanity remembered its philosophical ideas of ancient times and it began to develop scientific interest and with it centres of research and made new developments.

Studying television series provides a unique perspective on society’s view of individuals with disabilities and influences how teachers and peers view students with disabilities. Special education teachers can use select episodes to differenti- ate between the fact and fiction of portrayed individuals with disabilities with their stu- dents, and discuss acceptance of peers with disabilities.
