On both sides of the Atlantic, we believe in free enterprise and the strengths of the market as driv- ers of growth, wealth creation and development. Senegal is less than an eight-hour flight from the East Coast of the United States— it takes less time to get to America than it does to reach the east or south of Africa. And so we are also neighbors. At a political level, the relationship between our governments has always been character- ized by trust and friendly collaboration. Senegal benefits from the support of US aid in a number of areas, including as part of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA). We are currently in the process of defining a second MCA compact, focused primarily on energy, and this follows on from the success of the first compact, which concentrated on infrastructure and agriculture. All of these factors justify the continuation of our partnership, especially with the private sector in America, with support from the US Chamber of Commerce.
