PROUDLY SPONSORED BY President’s report

In the season 2016/17 we entered 7 senior teams and 11 junior teams (4 in modified cricket) in the Parramatta District Association. In addition we had our In2Cricket program with 50 registered players and 25 registered player at our T20 Blast program.

While numbers were slightly down on last year, it was a lot easier to manage player numbers and grounds.

Congratulations to our premiership winning teams being B3 – They are the every consistent team, playing in the last 4 years semi finals and winning 2 of them. Well done to Hubert and his team. Let’s hope the consistency occurs again next season.

Unfortunately the weather didn’t help our cause in the Semi Finals, as we had 8 teams being eliminated without a ball being bowled.

We continued with our overseas cricket program and this year we had Sam Weller come and play for us. Sam bought a lot of experience to our club having played for XI. Although Sam didn’t break ‘Emu’ record he was the spear head opening bowling we were looking for, but we wished he didn’t bring the English weather with him as this certainly cost a number of teams. We will continue to look at this program as the committee believes it’s a worthwhile process.

There were many fine performances this season; however this year’s Bob Downing – President’s Trophy goes to James Pettitt from our A Reserve. James who scored 640 runs @ 45.71 and also took 10 @ 23.7 with a best of 3/12. Well done James.

The cricket club were fortunate enough to be finalist at the Leagues club sub clubs awards night. However, we didn’t take away any awards this year.

Appreciation must go to our Senior Captains, Coaches, Managers and Scorers, not only for running proceedings on the field, they have many responsibilities off field as well.

To all the committee for your continued support, without your commitment it would make the job even harder than what it currently is.

We have to remember that all of us on the committee are doing this for the love of cricket and the club and it is a voluntary role.

The club this year had the services of Louise Frendo, who I’m sure all of you are now familiar with. Louise has bought a wealth of cricket administration service to the cricket club and has ensured that matters can be dealt with in a timely and efficient manner. Thanks Louise for your help and the committee would agree that it makes our jobs so much more easier.

Thanks to our sponsors, Wenty Leagues, Terry Shields Toyota, Sydney Physio’s, Gearonline, JAW Trophies, Bridgestone (Merrylands) and Party Shuttle Bus. Your financial help is gratefully appreciated.

I look forward to seeing you all back at the club next season.

Regards Justin Isaacs President

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 3 Secretary’s report

What a busy year the 2016/17 has been with all the different forms of cricket we have had within the club from Milo In2Cricket through to Seniors and approximately 430 players.

Behind the scenes we have worked on bringing the club together with our Team App which for the teams that have been using it, it has worked really well. Hopefully we will get more members joining next season so we can continue to grow this useful tool.

With more things going on behind the scenes next season we will start our new system for payments where you will receive an invoice for registration, presentation and any other payments that will be needed to be made.

On the cricket front it was a shame about the wet weather we had to wash out the semi finals which ended up knocking out 8 of our teams and only leaving us with 2 teams going through to the finals.

Congratulations to the B3 and 11/1 Grey for making it to the finals for 2016/17 and to B3 for taking out the win!

We appreciate all the volunteers that have been a Coach, Manager or Scorer this year without all your hard work the teams are not able to operate effetely. To help with the scorer we will be offering a scoring course next season for everyone wish to do, this will be on how to score in the scorebook and on the scorer app, so keep a look out for more information.

I personally would like to thank Justin and the whole committee for the support that has been given to me in my first full year being involved with the club.

We look forward to having our members return for the 2017/18 season.

Regards

Louise Frendo

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 13 SENIOR GRADES REPORT

First of all, thank you to Justin for again providing exemplary leadership for the cricket club, and to Louise for being so organised and taking care of a myriad of details which has made my job as senior grades secretary so much easier. Thank you also to all the committee for their support, especially Hubert for his willingness to front the gear shed as many times as necessary – greatly appreciated. Overall, it was a fairly disappointing season with only 7 senior grades teams playing. Numbers in each team were good, but as usual during the Christmas period, teams were often short and relying on juniors to help out. To the teams who gave their juniors an opportunity to really participate and encouraged them to challenge themselves, thank you, because by welcoming and encouraging our juniors, we are fostering future senior players. Team results throughout the season fluctuated, but in the end, we were beaten by a combination of factors: not having a club coach, and at the end of the season, the weather ruined opportunities for teams to advance to the finals. We had 4 of 7 teams which could have advanced to the finals, but with the semi-finals being washed out and advancement based on quotient, only the B3 team had the opportunity to play the grand final. And, after a hard fought match, Hubert and his team were the only Wenty team to win the Grand Final. Well done guys – congratulations on a brilliant season! With the successful implementation of the TeamApp, we are moving further into the digital age in an effort to streamline processes and make accounting practices easier. A new registration process will be trialled for the upcoming season, ensuring all players enter their Wenty Leagues Club membership number as part of the registration process. This will be done by invoicing players and registration will not proceed unless details are correct and full payment has been received. Social players will receive an invoice monthly and will need to pay before they can play again. This prevents players not fulfilling their financial obligations to the cricket club and ensures the auditors can clearly follow transactions. The Senior Grades Secretary’s Award goes to Wilbert Jesuratnam. Highest Score: James Pettitt 640 runs, Matthew Rankin 389 runs Most Wickets: Wilbert Jesuratnam 27 wickets, best figures 6/36 Most catches: Sutharan Packianathan, 10 catches

Some great bowling performances were: B10 Rajnesh Koul 7/7 B9 Samarth Bavda 8/69 B3 Robert Jesuratnam 7/50 B3 Avineil Maharaj 6/4 Let’s hope next year is bigger and better than ever!

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 17 A GRADE

The season seen us with quite a few new faces to the club including our overseas player Sam Weller. With the experience and the level of ability amongst the player we had high expectations of a successful year. However, like most teams the weather didn’t help our cause and even a few games that the majority of other teams played we still had inclement weather leading up to a turf game. This ultimately cost of a chance of winning the competition as we were washed out in the semi-finals. A special thanks to Leanne for scoring each week, John (when he turned up to make the cordial) and the groundsmen who did their best each week to get us a game. Monty Bennett would have to be the best ground played on by any district cricket in Sydney. Let’s hope we can all back up again next season to have a crack at winning the comp!

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 19 A RESERVE

The season started off very slowly, losing the first 3 games, and struggling to put a full team together. We used 17 players and 3 subs. We then found some consistency and form. We only lost 2 more games in the remainder of the season, finishing with 7 wins and 5 losses, which felt like a very successful season. Though with results from almost every other game going against us, we ended of 6th out of 8 teams.

Vital performances with the bat from Isidor Orland, Parin Sheth, Matt Knox and Aaron Fowler, along with consistent scores from Brenton Whale, we started setting good totals for our bowling attack. Lead by undoubtedly the best and most unlucky bowler in the comp Anup Cyril and his fearsome opening partner Joshua Cook, who together built up pressure and took important wickets to allow Matt Knox, Luke Jensen and James Pettitt to reap some rewards on their day.

All of this success, however, was only possible because of an opening batsman that produced one of the most outstanding seasons we have witnessed. With only 2 scores below 30 as equally amazing, as the fact he only got 1 century in the final round, to finish with an astounding 640 runs and an average 45.

A special mention must also be made to Andrew Clark, Blake Bourke, Shivam Vohra, Chad. Radford, and Jamie Sherson who for various reasons had very limited chances to show their skills, all played very important roles on and off the field, and will play a big part as we move forward into next season.

22 Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 B3

It’s with great pleasure that I write a report as a winning captain once again. We came into this season with excitement as well as doubt, this is the highest we’ve played together as a group, but we knew if we were able to play to our potential we could take the fight to any team.

I first would like to thank Justin and the committee for the great work they do behind the seasons, especially Louise and Juanita who helped me run my team throughout the season.

The competition was tough compared to previous seasons, however over the years we have learnt plenty from opposition teams, which has made this team much stronger and has enabled us to play cricket at a high level consistently from game to game.

We found games lasting the distance this season, with 60 over innings the norm, to which we adjusted accordingly and played a patient brand of cricket. We didn’t blow away any of the opposition and found ourselves grinding wins. With plenty of events off the field this year, we played well over 20 individuals throughout the season, some of those victories in the middle of the season with plenty of full time players missing, were key victories. In the end we had enough wins on the board to claim the minor premiership, which was also a first for myself and the boys.

This group of boys, full and part timers, are a very close bunch of blokes and we made sure we had fun on and off the field. This camaraderie made us all hungry to perform at our best for each other and ensured that we were always pushing one other to our potentials.

It was a tough choice picking the 12 to play the Grand Final. In the end I was proud of the way we played the Grand Final, everything we learnt over the seasons were put to effect and it was something the opposition did not expect to face that weekend. They were surprised with the relentless effort that was put in throughout the two days and they didn’t have much to offer in the end. We didn’t have much energy left to celebrate the victory on Sunday, we had left everything on the field, could not have asked for more.

It was an all-round effort from all the boys who played B3’s this season that got us the minor premiership, which played its role in getting us the Premiership. Below I’ve gone through the full boys who are part of this Premiership team:

Kevin Sampath – The feared opener bowler who led the attack against the opposition. He is the glue to this team, making sure we are enjoying playing in this group. Also, the one who organised training for us all season. Voted by the boys as their Players Player this season and rightly so.

Arsalan Sajed – One of our all-rounders who always stepped up when we need him the most. Backed up with the opening bowler role when needed and scored vital runs at crucial times.

Jonathon Neasey – Didn’t play as many games as he would have liked to this season, however showed in the games that he did, why other teams didn’t like bowling against him.

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 23 B3

Parichit Pandey – One of the newer members to the team. Solid with the bat, put us in great positions in plenty of games throughout the season and handy with the ball as well. Avishaal Chandra – Had an amazing season behind the stumps, highlight taking seven catches in the Grand Final. Injuries kept him away from a few games, his stats would have looked much better if he played more games. Well-deserved winner of the fielding award.

Wilbert Jesuratnam – Solid opening bowler as with every season, easily the fastest in the comp and was talked about among opposition teams.

Vishnu Prithiviraj – Another one of the newer members, who had his break through innings last year in the semi’s and brought that form into this season. Got plenty of runs in crucial games and a very handy fielder.

Robert Jesuratnam – Would have to be the all-rounder of the year. Plenty of wickets and plenty of runs for someone who bats well down the order.

Rashiru Totamuna – Was a solid top order batsmen who played well in many games. Was the only leftie in the team as well.

Aiden Das – Joined us this year and cemented his spot as opening batter, worked hard all season and became a key batsman in the top order.

Cavinash Chelliah – A new addition to this team, played some important innings during the season. Also had a great cricket mind which helped me think about the game from a different perspective.

Avineil Maharaj – Another one of our key bowlers who stepped up with his swing bowling to compliment the pace attack. Had some handy batting performances as well.

Jas Singh – Stepped up this season, I brought him into the senior group and was not disappointed. Played well all season and got his first win as captain during the one dayers.

In summary, this was a season to remember. It’s something we, as a group will be talking about for the rest of our lives. It really was a journey and not one player stood out all season. Every player contributed throughout the season.

I’m looking forward to our end of season cricket trip, and I hope there will be plenty more premierships we bring to Wenty Leagues in the future.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for being part of the team this year. The year did not go so well in term of wins, but I can definitely say that each and every one of you guys had shown improvement. Special highlights include Akshay’s meteoric rise from number 11 in the first game to being our most consistent batsman and bowler, Shivam becoming one of our best players despite not being officially on the team and Amit for finally getting over his fear of scoring more than 50 runs.

This year we also saw a few more surprises with our unofficial Captain Thile becoming the official one for a few matches; even setting up his captains’ office in his car after getting out. We saw some promise from Smaran with the ball (was he even invited onto the team?) and we saw the development of Kevin into our first choice keeper when Kishore ran away with the missus to Malta and Vanuatu. Ben showed improvement in fielding by taking catch (and heaps of wickets but that was sorta expected).

As usual, we had our fair share of injuries including Pasath’s knee, which meant that Shahilan had to take over as the big hitter with his 15 over duck. Pratheep was disheartened that Shanan injured his ankle while celebrating and so decided to leave the team and pursue medicine.

Finally, a shout out to all the fill-in players we had over the season; Adi, Aiden, Aman, Nikhil, Rahul and Krishy.

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 27 B9

Come 2017 and Brett Davis’s inglorious mob , got set once again, to come together towards another exciting, sometimes punishing (40 degree Saturday afternoons chasing leather for 70 overs) , celebrating and yet sometimes unsatisfying 8 months of Saturday afternoon cricket. This year, we welcomed 6 new motivated and park cricket calibrated blokes in our endeavour to bask glory in the B11 division. This year, new guns, Samarth and Saharsh, along with Ravi, Parth and Panky teamed up along with our regular junta of Brett, Raj, Suds, Mushy, Sam , Stephen, Dinesh, Fuad and Dishant to rollick into a squad of 14 (we had to say good bye to Surya , who decided going south to Mexico was far better than the golden lands of Western Sydney). We took on Rams first, playing away and going down outright, a pretty ordinary start tothe season, but hey, it could only get better, we dished out a quality performance against the Colts playing at Harold Read with Panky getting an unbeaten 110. Game 3 , it was reprisal against Kings (who robbed our thunder last season in the semis), bundling them out to a sub 150 score with Parth scalping 4 and Ravi, making a meal of their bowling , smacking a 50 and a vigilant Panky unbeaten on 37 ( who was now bradmanesque, averaging over 100 with the bat). After a round of umpiring duties, we took on Winston, flourishing 218/3 in 50 odd overs ( 3 LBW’s, should say something about the umpiring) , Parth (74*) and Bradman..err Panky (60*) amongst the runs and routing them in their dig for 122 with Panky amongst the wickets. Supersonics up next and another big score for us, this time Ravi and Samarth amongst the runs with rain playing spoilsport restricting us to 4 points. Mushy was back (after his work hiatus) for the last game of the season and brought back the break in the un-defeated run since the 1st game coming to an stutter with an outright loss against Barbarians who had failed to get a win for the season ( yeah so what , it was Christmas and we were feeling generous!!) We were always confident going in to limited overs contests and with 4 one days in the new year, we knew this would be good opportunity to claw back some points. Starting with Rams, at home, with a comfortable 40 run win with Parth bowling a vicious opening spell. Off at Binalong against Colts, we played Taha our ring in casual for the game. We lost a nail bitter, by 4 runs, in the last over (don’t want to tell you about the bloke who tried to swing his club for a mightily when singles could have got us home). Handsome contributions from Taha and Suds and some economical bowling Panky and Ravi the mentionables for the game. At home Game 10 against Kings, Raj bowled a menacing spell pf 7 overs 7 wickets for 7 runs to romp them for 37 inside 14 overs. Game 12 reduced to a one day contest with the 1st week called off due to extreme weather (yup I’ve said it, global warming exists), Raj and Panky demolished Winston to 65 inside 21 overs, only for rain, thunder and lighting and a very keen umpire wanting call off early, left us with a draw to go in to the final round, having to win or draw against Supersonics to guarantee a spot in the semis. As luck would have had it, a stop start wet day, saw us losing the toss and getting reduced to 9/4 before Fuad and Stephen fought back and to get to 93 in 34 overs on a thick outfield (drovers would have loved it) under grey skies with the ball swinging like an old rusty gate. With the ball, we got them to 3/35 and at one moment in the game, we had 8 slips and a solitary Panky at short mid with Sam and Raj snarling at Supersonics, asking questions with the ball that would trouble a qualified Jedi. Rain on week 2 saw us going through the semi and here we were, 3 seasons in a row, in the knock outs. 2015 was a batting collapse that saw us out, 2016 was the Kings getting 9 lives to take us out, 2017, we left no excuses to be taken down, only for the wettest March to come thundering down from Monday week onwards and for PDCA to call off the game on a Friday afternoon. Being 3rd on the ladder, it meant an end to another season, another heart break and an end of season. All in all, a good season coming to an end, with fantastic memories and the ifs of what could have been, a great fabulous season.

See you all next year. PS – Going back to that game against Colts, DON’T EVER swing wild in the last over with 3 to win and 6 balls to get you there, it’s stupid, don’t do it

Cheers Mustafa Poonawala

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 29 B10

A very ordinary season for us. Unfortunately, not one victory, competitive in a few games at best.

Batting A big improvement in the batting this season, scoring nearly 400 more runs than previous year. We had 3 batsmen eclipsing 150 + runs for the season. Doesn’t come across as too flash, but compared to last season, a much better effort.

This was due largely to the tremendous batting from Glenmore Gomez, scoring 327 runs at 29.73 including a (almost match winning) knock of 106.

This was the only game we came close to winning. Chasing 228, we were shot ducks at 1-0 (1st ball of innings), 2-0 (2nd ball of innings), 3-30, 4-31 then 5-38. Glen & Mayuren then put on a steadying partnership of 46 taking us to 6-84 (still in a heap of trouble). Still requiring 145 with only 4 wickets remaining, Glen turned it on, hammering 8 fours & 7 sixes & rotating the strike brilliantly putting on 81 with that old bugger who refuses to retire, yes…. me (not Wal). Back in the game, but the next 2 wickets fell pretty quickly, Danny supported Glen beautifully for the last wicket putting on a 20 partnership. Glen last man out. All out 210, 19 runs short of target. Exciting game to the very end.

Bit of a shame that Nathan couldn’t play more games during the season. Would definitely have been up there with Glen for most runs. Only played 7 games for 182 runs at 22.75 Good digs from Steve (36), Iftikar (28*) & Ali (24).

Solid batting (as usual) from Wal. Held a lot of innings together as wickets tumbled around him. Testament to this is he had 4 not outs batting at the top or middle order.

Bowling Bowling, which was our strength last season, was poor. We took 35 less wickets than previous year & averaged 1 wicket per 27 runs (1 per 17 runs last year). That means we were conceding an average of 270 runs every innings. Ain’t gonna win too many chasing that score EVERY game.

Only 2 players surpassing 15 wickets for the season compared to 4 last year. Highlight was a great spell (5/49) from Mayuren against eventual Grand Finalists Guildford Leagues Good contributions from Wal (4/27) & Dave (4/70)

Fielding Stand out in the field? Who else……….Alex!! Good catching from Dave (8), Mayuren (5) & that old bugger (not Wal) (5)

A big thank you to Pranab, Parin, Tahir & young Lachlan for filling in to give us a full team for those games.

A VERY special thanks to Lisa for scoring every week. Very much appreciated.

Cheers Paul. T

34 Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 JUNIOR GRADES REPORT

Ladies and Gentleman, boys and girls The 2016-17 season has come and gone and once again Wenty Leagues has performed well in the PDCA junior competitions. We registered 15 teams, including four teams in the under 10 modified age group. In addition, our In2cricket continued to run on Saturday mornings on Ringrose Park. This makes us one of biggest junior clubs in the PDCA but it does come with some logistical issues. Finding enough grounds, equipment and having enough people who are willing to volunteer their time to coach, manage and score for the teams always presents a challenge. A big thankyou to all those who have assisted us this season in those roles. Without your help, the club would not be able to function as it does and your children would not be able to play this game we all love. Just being there to support your child is a big help, to not only your child, but the team as a whole. I know from firsthand experience this also helps team management on game days. Just dropping off your child at 8am and picking them up at 12 is not a satisfactory outcome for anyone. Please support your child, team and our club. This season we had a couple of incidents where unfortunate injuries took place on the field and parents were not present or contactable. Ambulances had to be called and this caused more issues for our team officials not to mention the players involved. On the field we had a successful and somewhat interesting season, the weather played a major role in our finals campaign. I cannot remember a season where the entire semi- finals were washed out and we lost a day’s play due to the extreme heat.

Once again, our 15s and 16s played their home games on the turf at Monty Bennet. This was a big learning curve but will make the boys better cricketers in the future. Seven of our teams qualified for the semi- finals with two others missing out by 4 points and a further missing out on quotient. This is an outstanding achievement. 15/1, 14/1,14/2,12/2, 11/1 White, 11/1 Grey and 11/2 were those who were looking forward to semi -final cricket but the weather had other ideas with only the 11/1 Grey progressing to the final after a week of constant rain. This was an outstanding match, with a very high degree of skill on show. Unfortunately it was not our weekend as we went down in a thoroughly enjoyable, entertaining game of cricket that was played with great sportsmanship. Both coaches should be congratulated as each team used ten bowlers. Well done to Rajan and his team. I’m sure that success isn’t too far away for the boys. This season we took the step of allocating 14 players to each side where we could due to the lack of commitment and communication previously shown by some parents and players. This helped the problem a little but we need your assistance here. If you want to play for Wenty Leagues, commit for the entire season. People give up their time and it’s not fair on other team members and officials if you can’t regularly attend training and matches. It’s not easy for the coach to manage 14 players when everyone is available, so thank you for doing a great job in this area where possible. At this stage I would like to thank Justin Isaacs, Louise Frendo and Gavin Caine for their help and organisational skills over the past 12 months. They all contributed greatly to the running of the Junior club, making my job much easier and without them we wouldn’t be in the strong position we are today. Wentworthville Leagues continued as our major sponsor supporting us financially both on and off the field and I would like to thank the board for their continued support. Let’s look forward to 2017-18 with enthusiasm and with a bit of luck, more continued success Yours in cricket Aaron Martin Junior Grades Secretary

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 35 UNDER 16/1

After a poor start to the season the boys fought back well to miss the semi finals by a single point. Unfortunately, we lost the opportunity to win 3 washout games, 2 of which we were in a commanding position after the 1st weeks play. The boys played good hard cricket all year and deserved a better outcome. I would like to thank our scorer Matt, manager Humphrey and Sam our International Cricketer from England. Well done to all the boys for their commitment to the cause and wish you all the best as you progress through to the senior cricket grades. I love our Cricket Club and am very proud of the support and presence at both games and training from family and friends. John Stephenson Coach

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 37 UNDER 15/1 First of all, we thank the Parents and the Players for giving us the opportunity to coach and guide this hard working and dedicated team to the semi-finals for another year. This is the second year running of this talented team of under 14 and 15 players. We am proud to say that the boys have developed their cricket remarkably well this year.

Overall, we had four wins, three losses and three draws which were the result of bad weather. We are proud to say that all the three losses were with very close margins and if we had the opportunity to complete the three weather affected matches we would have finished up at the top of the table in this group. As we know, the semi-final were washed out and top two teams were through to the finals.

Without excluding anyone, we must say that all the players remarkably improved their fielding, batting, match awareness and overall understanding of the game. The team showed commendable on and off-field behaviour and discipline. Further, Chaitanya Madala, Raveen Ganesh and Rohan Srivastava were selected for NSW Academy Trials and even represented State Challenge at Dubbo. Pleasingly, Abishek Mohanaraj is the leading run scorer with 232 runs and leading wicket taker with 21 wickets. Chaitanya Madala was strong in fielding with 12 catches and 4 stumpings.

Proud to say that five players (Abishek, Chaitanya, Raveen, Rohan and Kaustubh) represented the PDCA Rep teams and three players (Jayden, Shivam and Pratham) played in Hurricanes President Cup.

Finally, whole team showed a positive image in the ground and contributed very well in all the matches and we are looking forward to next year’s challenges. We are certain that the boys will respond with greater success. We also wish to extend my appreciation and gratitude to all the parents for their support and care during this season.

Well done team!!!

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 39 UNDER 14/1

Season started with lots of promise, team comprising experienced players as well as some beginners to the game. Each player set their goals upfront for the season and we were focusing on techniques on all three departments so boys could deliver the best in games. Faced a tough opponent in the first game but boys did well though we ended up in the losing side. Team bounced back strongly to set a record win against Greystanes, getting them all out for 19 runs and reaching winning runs in 8 overs without losing wickets was remarkable. Aditya’s injury, which pulled him out of the season at this stage, was a big blow to the team. However, lack of consistency in batting and poor fielding resulted in losing game 3 and 4 marginally. Had to change gears at this stage, lots of motivation, extensive training and commitment from the boys helped us bouncing back strongly to set 5 consecutive victories to reach 3rd in the comp leaving one last game to decide the no 2 position. Continuous bad weather not only avoided our training but also left us playing a 30 over game with Seven Hills under wet condition. Boys did well in the first 22 overs but one good knock from a quality batsman took the game away from us that pushed us to no 4 spot in the comp. Reaching semi finals is a great achievement, I was happy to note the improvement from every player as the competition progressed. Fielding has been tremendously improved with techniques, tail-enders batted confidently with proper techniques while bowling was our key strength through out to topple any good batting side. Boys were eagerly waiting to play the semis but it is so sad that Mother Nature prevented us playing game. Overall it was an excellent season with some great performances, Aiden scoring over 200 runs, Vraj taking over 20 wickets and some all round performances from Adi Rawat and Shanuk were the highlight of the season. Krish, Madhav, Agnik, Zain and Dillon were promising talents who contributed well in bowling and batting. Aathan exhibited some great fielding while Abishek, Nishit and Udbhav shown big improvement in techniques to take their talents to next level. Contribution from Raveen and Rohan during school holidays brought the team to a winning habit. Despite his injury Aditya’s attendance in every game, motivating the team is really admirable; wish him speedy recovery for the next season. I would like to thank all the parents for their support, understanding and being involved with the season. Last but not least, my job was not possible without the support and commitment from Sathish and Gavin; I could not ask more from the duo. It was a great experience working with lovely set of boys and wish them all the success in the next season Lasath Karandeniya Coach

Players were very energetic, enthusiastic and overall performance was extremely satisfactory. Involvement of players on the field and off the field was indeed fantastic. Most of the players attended practice session very regularly and punctual on the match day as well. The team made it to semis and all players contributed to the cause.

Parents were very cooperative and some of them were regular to attend practice session and games as well.

Few players due to injury could not attend full session, however overall performance of full of hard work and commitment. The team has done a good job to get the place in semis and will look forward for further improvement in the next season.

Thanks a lot for offering me this opportunity.

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 43 UNDER 13/1

It gives me great pleasure in writing this report for a team who played good cricket and developed their skills during the season. The boys have batted well and have the temperament to stay at the crease for a longer period of time.

Our bowling and catching have also improved. Playing in division one is very competitive and some of the players took this as a challenge. We need to now focus on improving our concentration and discipline during the game on the field, off the field and in training which will be a benefit in the future.

I want to thank our manager Viresh for assisting me and all the parents who have been very supportive during the year.

Good Luck!

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 47 UNDER 12/1

Building on last years experience of coaching U11/1 team we started on good note with half the team with returning players from U11/1. We added few new faces from other clubs and couple of fresh faces playing for first time. The team got along very well quickly and we had success quite early in the season. Team started building strong performances and boys enjoyed playing together as a group very soon. The returning players had very good rapport which helped make the game fun and training sessions enjoyable. This year as compared to previous, had more support from parents specially Ravi helping with his coaching experience and Balwinder managing some of the admin tasks. Soon we developed into a good unit but i guess other teams improved their game too, we lost few games falling short of winning by smallest of margins. Anyway the journey is important than results so boys and parents were happy with the season. Some notable personal achievements. Neerav was one of the outstanding players in all forms. Statistics prove the same for the year. Aaryan / Aadesh / Lachlan / Nitushan made some important contributions consistently throughout the season. Returning players Ansh/ Soham /Pavithan/ Om continued to improve throughout the season. New players Rijul/Het/Maneet had improved to a great extend by end of the season with Samarpreet (Sam) Singh being the most promising of them all. Sam not only improved as a bowler but also took a 5 wicket record in second last game of the season. A great promising talent was discovered. Overall the season was full of joy/happiness/disappointments/sweat & tears, a very happy few months and time well spend with boys. Looking forward to next season. Thanks for the opportunity. Cheers Ashish Coach

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 51 UNDER 11/1 GREY

Firstly, I wanted to congratulate each and every player of this season’s 11/1-Grey team and their parents as we reached the grand finals which is a great achievement by all the kids. Really proud of them.

One great thing about our team was our consistency. We were unbeatable until the last league match where we had a little stutter and lost the match. We started off with number 1 position on the points table from round 1 and maintained the number 1 position till the end of round 9 and narrowly missed out on leading the point’s table right through the league stage.

It all started when the new team was announced in the beginning of the season, I wanted to bring all the players together, get them to know each other and make friends because cricket is a team sport and every one should play for the team to make the difference which our team has done it.

We kicked off the season with the announcement of a friendly match. The first thing I saw in my team was the interest that was shown by all the boys and their parents. Every one of them was in full attendance and each and every parent was present till the end of the match. The interest towards the game shown by each and every kid was amazing. It was evident that this team will achieve great heights and will most likely win the premiership this season. Our team was very well balanced with good combination of batsmen, bowlers, very good fielders and wicket keeper. All the kids are very hardworking and most importantly willing to learn. Most of the kids were coming from playing under 10’s last season and it was very impressive to see them perform at the next level.

Overall, I am extremely proud to be coaching this bunch of kids and enjoyed every moment with them.

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 55 UNDER 11/2

This being the first year of traditional cricket for the team its was a quick learning curve that we had to be out there for the full morning of cricket, fortunately we had a few spare players to cover the boredom out in the field.

What we thought was going to be an easy season after a great first up win we were brought back to earth in the next few rounds with some close losses.

Then the Christmas exodus hit us but we managed to recruit a few players from our U10’s who helped us field a competitive side

Like most teams the weather didn’t help us this season with two of our games being washed out when we were in winning positions.

We managed to sneak into fourth place which was a sensational effort considering the interruptions during the season. We were confident and hopeful of putting up a good fight against eventual premiers however once again the weather was on our friend and our semi-final was washed out.

I was proud of each player all the time and effort put in during the season and it would have been rewarding if we had our opportunity to play in the semifinals.

Would like to thank all the parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters for all of your support during the season it certainly gives the kids confidence to play in front of their families.

A special thank you to Mel and Brad. Mel was our manager/scorer and ensured everything was run smoothly off the field, while Brad was the assistant coach who wire upon many times to help with the team.

I would hope that the majority of us can stick together next year and get our chance to play in finals cricket of the players that may stay back in their own age group I wish them the best of luck but we keep an eye on your results.

Best wishes Justin Isaacs Coach

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 57 UNDER 10 Blue

The team had a few boys who had played a season before and the others were new to cricket but all were fully charged up for this season.

From the first match to the last, the team’s morale was sky high. Someone or the other stepped up to the occasion and delivered. 10 wins out of 10 games, who could have asked for more?

We saw great performances like, 1 bowler getting 2 five wicket hauls with one hat- trick included and a total of 20 wickets. 2 batsmen not being dismissed even once in the entire tournament and the youngest team member standing up to be the wicket keeper against some decent pace bowling and lastly the team getting a total of 23 run outs and taking 14 catches was an achievement to be proud of.

Not to forget the effort and support from each parent, sacrificing their precious time to bring the boys for most of the training sessions, matches and themselves getting involved is worth an applaud.

Thank you all once again for this fabulous performance and wish you all, success in the years to come.

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 59 UNDER 10 Green

What a successful year for the U10 green team this season. There were many highlights throughout the season. The steady development of kids’ technique in both bowling and batting was excellent to see. The all-round abilities of few kids was consistent, few boys proved to be our most economical bowlers, bowling an excellent line and length and picking up consistent wickets.

All the kids made valuable contributions to the team when they played. The only thing lacking was time sense. Most of the kids wasn’t on time that made less time for warm ups before the match. We have started the season with 11 boys but by the end of the season there was only 9 boys left in the team.

Overall the boys should be very proud of themselves this season. They demonstrated great sportsmanship on the field and showed a high dedication to their training. They at times carried the seniors with their training habits and were always there and ready to go every Wednesday and Saturday.

Hopefully next year is a successful year for everyone at Wenty Leagues cricket Club.

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 61 UNDER 10 Red

For most of the players this was the first experience of playing in the competitive cricket. Most of the players were playing cricket first time in the life. Therefore our objectives were 1. To remove the fear of the ball hurting the players from their mind. 2. Develop the team spirit and sense of one team among the players. 3. Develop the coordination among the players. 4. Develop the competitive spirit among them. 6. Develop the confidence and the cricketing skills 7. Develop the bonding among the team. 8. Develop patience in the player. To the large extent we were successful in achieving our objectives. We could see the huge improvements in the players as the season passed. This was reflected in the scores in the first match and the last match of the season. Players developed the sense of discipline. We also participated in the tournament arranged by Greystanes Cricket Club to raise the money for the Glen McGrath Cancer Foundation. Team participated enthusiastically in all the matches in the tournament. Team spirit and competitiveness was prominently visible in this tournament.

Overall all the players enjoyed the last Cricketing season. It was also my first stint as a coach. I also learned to be patient with the kids. Thanks to all the parents for bringing their kids on time for the game and providing help in the scoring. Kiri Coach

Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 63 UNDER 10 Yellow

This was the first year for most of the players playing proper cricket. There were a couple of players who were playing for the second year running and you could tell the difference between the two groups. One thing was certain from day one everyone was keen to win and they gave it all on the field.

Most of the team were at training regularly and as the season went along they began to gel well together as a group and this made a difference to how they played. They began to support each other and you could tell it made a difference to most.

We didn’t win many games and as coach I tried not to focus on winning and losing rather focusing on improving from the week before. We started to give out marbles each week for stand out performance and improvements and I am waiting to see who got the most number of marbles for the season.

Good group of kids and hope we can stay together next year and hope to kick some big goals next season.

Well Done team.

68 Wenty Leagues Cricket Club Annual Report 2016 - 2017 The Milo In2Cricket program is designed for boys & girls from as young as 4 through to 9 years of age. It is a fast, fun & active 10 week program that emphasises maximum participation and basic cricket skill development. It is experience based and builds its foundations on the essentials for lifelong involvement in physical activity and sport.

Each Saturday morning the kids played game based activities that taught them the basic elements of the great game of cricket.

These elements were: Hit a moving ball, bowl with a straight arm, throw, pass and catch balls, track and trap balls, game sense, teamwork, communication and most important of all, Sportsmanship. Each year all kids receive a player pack such as this.

It was a pleasure to have run this program again on behalf of WLCC. Thanks to all the volunteers for their tremendous help & support. A special thank you to Donna for helping out with the set up each Saturday & organising the ice blocks for the kids. The final session of the program was a fantastic day. We had a barbecue, lollies & some music for the kids while they played a game of cricket instead of doing our normal drills. The kids loved it!! As usual, it was a lot of fun each week and I sincerely hope that it was of benefit to all those wonderful kids.

Good luck to all the kids advancing to Under 10’s next season. Hope to see you all back in October.
