056352782 INTRODUCED 1 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 465 2 Offered January 27, 2005 3 Commending the High School softball team. 4 ±±±±±±±±±± Patron±±Obenshain 5 ±±±±±±±±±± 6 WHEREAS, the 2004 Turner Ashby High School softball team scored a run in the bottom of the 7 seventh inning of a scoreless game to capture the High School League Group AA state softball 8 championship at Radford University; and 9 WHEREAS, by defeating Jefferson Forest High School, 1-0, in the state title game, the Knights from 10 Turner Ashby High School in Rockingham County won Turner Ashby©s first-ever state softball 11 championship; and 12 WHEREAS, finishing the season with a record of 27-2, the Turner Ashby Knights won the Valley 13 District championship for the ninth straight year by defeating Broadway High School, 8-0, in the 14 tournament final; and 15 WHEREAS, the Knights won the regional tournament with a 5-2 victory over Loudoun Valley High 16 School to advance to the state tournament, where they opened with a 2-0 win over Grafton High School; 17 and 18 WHEREAS, in the semifinal and the final, Turner Ashby won by scores of 1-0, and in both games 19 the Knights scored the winning run in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the last inning, evidence of the 20 confidence, teamwork, and grace under pressure of the Turner Ashby players; and 21 WHEREAS, Turner Ashby High School©s first state title is evidence of the talent and dedication of

22 the players, the leadership of Head Coach Craig Miller and his coaching staff, and the enthusiastic SJ465 23 support of the fans from Bridgewater and Rockingham County; now, therefore, be it 24 RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly 25 commend and congratulate the 2004 Turner Ashby High School softball team on its state championship 26 performance; and, be it 27 RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for 28 presentation to Coach Craig Miller and the Knights in honor of Turner Ashby High School©s first Group 29 AA softball state championship. 1:17 3/25/10
