Deakin University consists of four campuses in the area, , offering a wide range of courses to UPEI exchange students, including courses in Sciences, Business, Arts, and Nursing.

Deakin has a student body of 50,000, and is one of Australia’s fastest growing research universities. Located near Melbourne, Australia’s second-largest city and cultural capital surrounding Port Phillip Bay, the area features many museums, art galleries, theatres and parks, as well as some of Australia’s best dining.

1 Campuses

Certain campuses are better suited for your chosen area of study:

• Melbourne Burwood Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, specifically a Contemporary Arts campus, but also offers full range of courses in Arts, Sciences, Health, Business and Education • Waurn Ponds 15 minutes from Australia’s surf coast, offers a comprehensive range of courses • Geelong Waterfront Central business district of Geelong, offers courses in Architecture, construction management, Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy and Business • Small coastal town specializes in Marine Sciences but also offers courses in Arts, Sciences, Education and Business

Courses

Deakin offers pre-approved courses for UPEI exchange students. These courses do not require prerequisites. You can also create your own study plan using the university handbook. Keep in mind that some courses may require prerequisites or faculty approval.

English Language Requirements

Non-native English speakers must obtain a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 to study at Deakin. Depending on your chosen area of study, a higher level of English may be necessary. Student Accommodations

On-campus accommodation is available at Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus, Warrnambool Campus and Melbourne Burwood campus. Each resident is housed in a single room with internet access. Bedrooms are furnished, heated, carpeted, with shared bathrooms, kitchens, laundry and recreational areas.

2 Geelong Waterfront and Geelong Waurn are not far from one another, so you may consider searching for accommodation near either campus (there is a shuttle connecting the campuses).

There is also an off-campus selection available for Geelong Waterfront and Melbourne Burwood.

Visas

Canadian citizens are required to apply for a student visa if they intend to study in Australia for more than 3 months. It is recommended that you apply for a visa well in advance before booking your flight. You must be accepted to study at Deakin before applying for your student visa. Beach Welcome

A three-day program held in the coastal town of Lorne, where Australian students (who have participated in study abroad/exchanges in the past) welcome international students and help them make the transition into Australian life by participating in a range of activities including surfing, hiking, yoga and beach games.
