  • Pantene and Female Athletes Make History at the London 2012 Olympic Games
Pantene and Female Athletes Make History at the London 2012 Olympic Games Pantene Athletes Prove that “Healthy is the New Beautiful” LONDON, August 13, 2012 – In honor of the London 2012 Olympic Games being the first in modern history where women competed in as many sports as men, Pantene, the world’s leading hair care brand and a leading P&G brand, today celebrated the success of its 11 athlete beauty ambassadors, 10 of whom competed in London, for their 12 medals and embodiment of Pantene motto “Healthy is the New Beautiful.” From Saudi Arabia sending female athletes to the Olympic Games for the first time in the country’s history to the first time that U.S. female athletes outnumbered male, female athletes dominated the conversation during the 17-day competition. Pantene proudly sponsored 10 of these elite London competitors as beauty ambassadors, including the U.S.’s Natalie Coughlin, Argentina’s Gisela Dulko and Great Britain’s Victoria Pendleton. “The London 2012 Olympic Games were a milestone for women in sports: every country’s delegation included at least one female athlete and every sport included both male and female competitions,” explained Kathryn Olson, CEO of the U.S.-based Women’s Sports Foundation which focuses on advancing the lives of girls and women through sports and physical activity. “Pantene’s prominent support for women’s sports throughout the competition has greatly helped raise visibility for the strength, talent, and beauty female athletes possess. Pantene and its beauty ambassadors are also helping to raise awareness for the relationship between sports and health, revealing the beauty of strong female athletes in a context that’s encouraging to young girls who need good role models in sports and in life.” In London, the Pantene beauty ambassadors won more than 12 medals in six sports, including four gold.

CHINA DAILY FRIDAY, AUGUST 10, 2012 olympics 5 off track ... CHINA APPEALS AGAIN The Chinese cycling team sent a second appeal letter to the Interna- tional Cycling Union (ICU) on Wednesday (London time) after the fi rst appeal was rejected last Friday. The cycling team appealed to the ICU and the International Olympic Committee after China was stripped of the gold in the women’s team sprint track cycling for making an early relay. However, ICU president Pat McQuaid said in an interview that the ref- eree’s decision will be the fi nal judgment, and the organization will not interfere. China was also fi ned 200 Swiss francs ($205) for intruding into the referees’ area. Pan Zhichen, manager of the Chinese cycling team, said in the sec- ond letter that quoting the game’s rules did not violate the regulation. He also questioned the referees’ double standards in the qualifi cation criteria and the fi nal. The Chinese team used the same riding techniques in three match- es, the letter explained. It also said that if China violated the rules, the judgment should have been made in the early rounds instead of after it won the title. The judging panel still didn’t give a believable explanation, which has hurt the riders and coaches, the letter said. The subjective judgment also exerted a negative infl uence over the sport’s development in China, it added.
