The thought of moving your loved one to an institution can be too much to bear. Narrow Now there is an alternative… WHAT IS A CARE HOME FOR ELDERLY?

RCFE (Residential Care Facility for Elderly) is a community care facility commonly known as a care home or board and care facility. An RCFE provides: • assistance with personal care Your • nutritional, balanced meals • medication management • assistance and supervision of health care needs as directed by health care providers • emotional support An RCFE provides 24-hour care for adults 60 years of age and older. It is licensed by Community Care Licensing Division, Department of Social Services. Each licensed facility must maintain certain standards to remain licensed, and is inspected by a Licensing Program Analyst once per year and as Search often as necessary. An RCFE is also inspected monthly by the local Ombudsman to ensure that the health, safety, and personal rights of the residents are protected. If a facility fails to maintain the legally required standards, the licensing agency has the authority to terminate the license.

When staying at home is no longer possible, there are two different options. First, there is the large apartment-style assisted living facility. Second, there is the smaller board and care home, the RCFE, which is set in a residential neighborhood much like your own and provides you with a more intimate setting of home, with usually only six residents to each household.

Residents who become ill and require more extensive assistance, including Hospice Services, are able to continue under the care of trained staff in an RCFE upon State Licensing approval. Building off work unveiled last year by Massachusetts Institute of Technology researchers, Intel Corp. on Thursday demonstrated how to make a 60-watt light bulb glow from an energy source 3 feet away. The Intel team did it with relatively high efficiency, losing only a quarter of the energy the researchers start- ed with. “That to me is the most striking part about it -- transmitting 60 watts at 75 percent efficiency over sev- eral feet,” Intel’s chief tech- nology officer, Justin Rattner, said in an interview. “The power pack for your laptop isn’t that efficient ... it’s one of those things that’s almost too good to be true.” Wireless transmission of electricity makes use of some basic physics. Electric coils that resonate at the same frequency can transmit energy to each other at a dis- tance. But this technology has a long way to evolve before it becomes a commercial prod- uct. In both the MIT and the Intel work, researchers used charging coils far too large for wide-scale use. Even so, Rattner said Intel is in the early stages of trying to modify a laptop to accept wireless power. One challenge is figuring out how to prevent the electro- magnetic field from interfer- ing with the computer’s other parts, he said. Eventually, a homeowner could attach a large trans- mitter to a wall -- or even bury it inside the wall -- and plant many smaller receivers
