Tip #4: iChat AV
Videoconferencing for the Rest of Us
iChat AV for Tiger is a great new tool for quick communication with your buddies at Pearson. Now up to four people can Video Conference and up to 10 people can Audio Chat. You can also Send an Instant Message and Send Files. Hearing impaired buddies can read your lips in a video chat. These instructions will get you set-up and started. Check iChat AV Help for more detailed instructions.
To set-up iChat AV, you will need either a .Mac or AIM (free) screen name. If you don’t have one yet, go to http://www.aim.com and look for the Get a Screen Name under Services. Make a note of your Screen Name and Password. You will only use this screen name once, at the very start-up of iChat AV. Then you will immediately create a new Jabber Account to use here at Pearson Education.
Start iChat AV and set-up a Jabber Account
Go to your applications folder and find the iChat AV application and start it. You will be prompted to enter your Screen Name and Password. Now close all open windows. We will create your new Jabber account next. Go to the iChat menu and select Preferences Click on Accounts and select the Account Information Tab To create a Jabber account, click on the + Sign in the lower left hand corner and enter the following information: Account Type: Select Jabber Account Jabber ID: [email protected] Password: Same as your Entourage password Server: USUSRL-XSOD-007.pcroot.com Description: Pearson Jabber Account. Close this window
In the account information window there should be checkmarks in: Use this account and When iChat opens, automatically log in
Next select the Server Settings Tab For Server enter: USUSRL-XSOD-007.pcroot.com Port will fill in automatically Make sure there are checkmarks in: Connect using SSL and Allow self- signed certificates For Location place a check mark in Use my machine name Close this window and your Jabber List window will appear
Find your Buddy’s U42
To add a new buddy to your Jabber List, you will need to know his or her U42. Open Entourage and go to your Address Book Make sure that you have Folders List selected under the View Option in your Toolbar In the Folders List window on the left, select Mailbox – Your Name To find your buddy, type the last name into the search box on the upper right Double-click on your buddy’s name to open the address card
Select the General tab You will see your Buddy’s U42 listed under Alias Remember, you will have to add your buddy Account Name like this [email protected] in the New Person Window in iChat
Now add your Buddy to your Jabber List
Click on the + Sign in the lower left hand corner of your Jabber List Window. Select New Person in the lower left hand corner Remember to add your buddy Account Name like this: [email protected] Fill in the Address Book Information so that you will see your buddy’s real name in the Jabber window later. Click Add
The Jabber List and your Picture
In the Jabber List you can see who is online and also who can be contacted via Video or Phone Chat Click on the Camera Icon to start a Video Chat Double-click on your buddy’s Picture Icon to send an Instant Message Or, hold the Control Key and Click on your Buddies Name to get even more choices: Chat, Audio Chat, Video Chat, Send an Instant Message, Send Files or Get Info
To change your Jabber List Picture: Option 1 – just drag in a new picture of yourself or something Option 2 – click on your picture and you will get the option to either use an old one or take a snapshot of yourself (You will need a built in camera for this option)

Check your QuickTime Settings
If you don’t see multiple cameras next to your buddy, check your QuickTime settings.
Open System Preferences and click on the QuickTime Icon Select the Streaming Tab For Streaming Speed select Intranet/LAN
Automatically Log In to iChat AV every Morning
Remember, we would like you to be logged in to iChat AV at all times. To make this easy for you, follow these steps: Open iChat AV Find the iChat AV icon on your dock Hold the Control key and click on the iChat AV Icon Select Open at Login You can do this with any program you use often, e.g. Entourage
