Professor Florence Fenollar, MD, PhD Medical microbiology Florence Fenollar graduated from Marseille Medical School and specialized in Medical Microbiology. She was also a post-doctoral fellow at the “Institut de Recherche pour le Déve- loppement” at Dakar, Senegal. University and Hospital Appointments Florence Fenollar is now full Professor of Medical Bacteriology-Virology and Hygiene at the Faculty of Medicine, Aix-Marseille University, Marseille, France. She is in charge of the Infectious Agents and Hygiene teaching programs at the Aix Marseille Faculty of Medicine. She is also in charge of the In- fectious Diseases and Hygiene program of the Nurse Training Institute at the Aix Marseille University. She is co-responsible of Hospital Hygiene and Contagion Management teaching program. Her clinical medical activities take place in the University Hospital Institute for Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine (www.mediterranee-infection.com) in Marseille. She is particularly involved in the manage- ment of chronic bacterial infections and bacterial vaginosis. Research Florence Fenollar’s research interests include the diagnosis, description, and management of emer- ging infectious diseases, the characterization of human microbiota, and the taxonomic description of novel human-associated bacterial species using genomic data. Her research interests include also bacterial vaginosis, a common condition that is still one of the great enigmas in women’s health. By November 30th, 2017, she has authored more than 200 articles in international peer-reviewed jour- nals, in addition to 21 book chapters. She is also reviewer for the major journals of infectious diseases and medical microbiology. Her researches have conducted to 3 patents: (1) Diagnostic techniques for Whipple’s disease; (2) Methods for diagnosing and monitoring bacterial vaginosis by molecular biolo- gy; (3) Identification of a microorganism in a clinical specimen and mass spectrometry database using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. Director Florence Fenollar is director of the Nosocomial Infection Control Committee at Marseille University Hospitals. Awards Florence Fenollar has received the Young Investigator Award for Research in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases from the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (2009). She has also received the Jean Valade Young Investigator Award from the Fondation de France (2011). This prize rewards discoveries in the medical field that find a diagnostic, physiopathological or rapid therapeutic application. List of indexed publications by November 30th, 2017 1.
