MUSIC PANEL (alphabetical by last name) Michael McIntosh, Shakopee, MN Michael McIntosh is a graduate of Butler University earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with an emphasis in Composition. In addition to freelance composing and digital sound design, Michael is the Percussion Coordinator for the Music For All Summer Symposium. He is currently the Percussion Caption Supervisor and a percussion designer for The Cavaliers drum and bugle corps. From 1997-2011, Mr. McIntosh was a percussion specialist at Carmel high school in Carmel, Indiana and part of a program named the 2001 AAA National Champion, and the 2005, 2012 and 2016 BOA Grand National Champions. Mr. McIntosh is an active clinician and adjudicator, giving clinics throughout the US, Europe and Asia, having performed clinics in Japan and Beijing, China. Michael is a current adjudicator for WGI as well as Bands of America. Compositionally, Michael has had works commissioned for the Midwest Band Directors Convention as well as the West Point HellCats. Currently, he has works published by SmartMusic, Row- Loff Publications, Yamaha Sounds of Summer, Tap Space Publications, Key Poulan Music, Drop 6 Media, The Hal Leonard Corporation, Innovative Percussion, Marching Show Concepts and Dynamic Marching. Michael is a Yamaha artist/clinician as well as a multiple signature drumstick artist with Innovative Percussion. Mr. McIntosh also endorses EVANS drumheads, Zildjian cymbals and Planet Waves Cables. Michael resides in Minnesota with his wife Joy and they have two beautiful girls, Scotlyn and Graysen.

John Meehan, Martinez, CA John Meehan is the Brass Caption Head and Arranger for the 18-time Drum Corps International Champion Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps. Within the Blue Devils organization, John also serves as the Music Director and Arranger for the ‘B’ and ‘C’ Corps programs. First joining the staff of The Blue Devils in 1994, John has helped the ‘A’ Corps win 12 DCI Championships and 12 Jim Ott High Brass Awards. John has been composing and arranging for marching bands and drum corps since 1992. Current clients include Lowndes High School (GA), Allen High School (TX), American Fork High School (UT), Clements High School (TX), Eden Prairie High School (MN), Homestead High School (CA), the Kidsgrove Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps (England) and the Yokohama Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps (Japan). Past clients include Ayala High School (CA), James Logan High School (CA), McQueen High School (NV), and the Pacific Crest Drum & Bugle Corps. Through the years, John’s clients have won numerous State titles, as well as Bands of America Regionals, and been finalists at the Bands of American Grand National Championships. Some of John’s “non-pageantry” writing includes composing music for the album “The Music of WYLAND”, scoring the film “Mind Games”, scoring a scene for the short film “Fleur”, writing two spots for Kaiser Permanente, and being commissioned to compose several wind ensemble pieces. Notable career achievements include lead designer for both the System Blue and King marching brass instrument series, development and production for the Sample Logic and System Blue sound libraries (including Fanfare and V.E.T.), and performing on the movie soundtrack “Monsters University” as a percussionist. John lives in California with his wife Jackie, their 3 daughters, and two rescue dogs.

Dave Orser, Kingston, ONT Mr. Dave Orser has been the Instrumental Music Director at Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School in Kingston, ONT for the past 20 years. He is a graduate of Queen's University with Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees. In addition to a number of prestigious provincial awards, the Holy Cross Jazz Ensemble and Wind Ensemble

Page 1 of 3 have been distinguished with international awards at Festivals of Music, Heritage Music, and Festival Disney events under his direction. Mr. Orser has been actively involved in the New York State Marching Band Conference as an arranger and an adjudicator for the past 10 years. He has also marched, taught, arranged, and adjudicated in the drum corps community for over 30 years. Recently, Mr. Orser was nominated for a Juno Award for outstanding teaching and his contributions to his school community.

Clif Smith, Manhattan, IL

VISUAL PANEL (alphabetical by last name) Ken Giese, Henderson, NV Ken Giese is a nationally recognized visual caption designer and adjudicator. He is an active visual caption judge for Music for All/Bands of America, Drum Corps International, Winter Guard International (Percussion Division), the Winter Guard Association of Southern California, the Florida Federation of Color Guards Circuit, and many other local circuits and organizations throughout the United States and abroad. He has served as a visual designer and instructor for numerous high school bands, winter guards, drum and bugle corps, and marching percussion units. He holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and a master’s degree in educational leadership. Mr. Giese currently resides in Henderson, Nevada, where he is a high school mathematics teacher.

Neal Smith, Canton, MA Mr. Neal Smith is a Visual Designer and has designed shows for Drum Corps, Marching Bands, Color Guards, and Percussion ensembles throughout the United States, Canada, The United Kingdom, and Europe. His designs have won numerous Regional, National, International, and World Championships. Mr. Smith’s trademark style of coordinating all the elements of sound, color, and movement has made his designs entertaining, engaging, and effective. In addition to designing, he is a consultant and clinician and has worked on Marching Arts Task Forces in developing programs in inner cities. Mr. Smith is a member of the Massachusetts Judges Association and judges Regional, National and World Championships for Bands of America (BOA), New England Scholastic Band Association, Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association, MAC, Drum Corps Associates, and various independent judging associations. Mr. Smith was a member of the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps beginning at the age of 12 and would continue to march for nine years as brass soloist and drum major. Mr. Smith is a member of the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame, The Massachusetts Music Educators and Drum Corps Hall of Fame, the Boston Crusaders Hall of Fame, and the Connecticut Hurricanes Hall of Fame.

Mike Tarr, Wyandotte, MI Mr. Michael Tarr has been a successful performer, consultant, and adjudicator in the pageantry and performing arts for over two decades. Mr. Tarr began performing with The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps as a member of the soprano line. As a consultant and staff member, Mr. Tarr has played a key role in several top programs including The Cavaliers, The Glassmen, The Bluecoats, and The Santa Clara Vanguard. Mr. Tarr also served on the staff of the Plymouth-Canton Marching Band in Canton, MI from 1993-2002, where the band saw great success at Bands of America (BOA) Grand National Championships in 1999, as well as earning two Steve Brubaker Outstanding Visual Performance Awards in 1998 and 2001. In addition, Michael has also worked at Carlton J. Kell High School in Marietta, GA, Milford High School in Milford, MI, DeKaney High School in Spring, TX, The Aimachi Band and Color Guard in Nagoya, Japan, Horwang High School and St. Joseph School in Bangkok, Thailand, Kennesaw Mountain High School in Kennesaw, GA, and many other national caliber programs. Mr. Tarr is an active adjudicator for BOA, the Colorado Bandmasters Association, and the Michigan Competing Band Association. He has also adjudicated at the All Thailand Marching Championship and the All Japan Marching Championships. Michael earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interpersonal Communication in 1997 and a Master of Arts Degree in Communication Arts in 1999 from Eastern Michigan University. When not teaching, Michael is avid reader and enjoys world travel.

Page 2 of 3 CHIEF JUDGE Richard Saucedo, Fishers, IN Richard L. Saucedo retired in 2013 as Director of Bands and Performing Arts Department Chairman at the William H. Duke Center for the Performing Arts at Carmel High School in Carmel, Indiana. During his 31-year tenure, Carmel bands received numerous state, regional and national honors in the areas of concert band, jazz band and marching band. Under his direction, Carmel’s Wind Symphony I performed at the Music for All National Concert Band Festival three times (1992, 1999, and 2004) and was named the Indiana State Champion Concert Band under his baton most recently in 2013. The group also performed at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago during December of 2005. Carmel Jazz Ensembles won numerous awards at jazz festivals in Indiana and throughout the Midwest. The Carmel Marching Greyhounds finished in the top ten at the Bands of America Grand National Championship for 17 years under Saucedo and were named BOA National Champions in the fall of 2005 and again in 2012. The Marching Band was the Indiana Class A State Champion four times. The Indiana Bandmasters Association named Mr. Saucedo Indiana’s “Bandmaster of the Year” for 1998-99 and he was named the “Outstanding Music Educator” in the state of Indiana for 2010 by the Indiana Music Educators Association. Mr. Saucedo’s accomplishments have been highlighted in articles by HALFTIME and SCHOOL BAND AND ORCHESTRA Magazines. He was inducted into the Music for All “Hall of Fame” in 2015.
