Reporters Without Borders Journalist-26-09-2011,41054.Html
Reporters Without Borders http://www.rsf.org/honduras-one-opposition- journalist-26-09-2011,41054.html Americas - Honduras Dangerous information One opposition journalist threatened, another pursued by coup general 26 September 2011 The concern that Reporters Without Borders expressed about Honduras’ readmission to the Organization of American States is as relevant as ever after the emergence of new media cases involving two TV journalists – Mario Castro Rodríguez and Edgardo Antonio Escoto Amador – who opposed the June 2009 coup and who have information about it. “The Cartagena Accord is dead and national reconciliation is impossible if censorship, repression and murder continue to be the response to needed information about the coup and its continuing consequences,” Reporters Without Borders said. “The relative protection that Mario Castro is getting and Edgardo Escoto should be granted is necessary but not enough. These cases must be investigated thoroughly even if senior active or retired police and army officers are involved turn out to be implicated.” “The OAS and the rest of the international community should quickly remind the Honduran authorities of their duty to combat impunity. In this regard, we regret the postponement of the visit by Margaret Sekaggya, the UN special rapporteur for human rights defenders, which was supposed to take place from 27 September to 4 October. It must rescheduled before the end of the year.” 100 threats Producer of the programme “El Látigo contra la Corrupción” (Lashing Corruption) for Globo TV in Tegucigalpa, Castro told the Committee for Free Expression (C-Libre), Reporters Without Borders’ Honduran partner, that he has received around 100 messages since 8 September warning him of his imminent death. -

However, press freedom showed a marked deterioration in 2009, especially after the June 28 coup that led to the ouster of President Manuel Zelaya Rosales. Despite the fact that in 2005 Honduras abolished the penal code's desacato (disrespect) provision, which was aimed at protecting the honor of public officials, other restrictive press laws are still used to subpoena and punish journalists who report on sensitive issues such as official corruption, drug trafficking, and human rights abuses. Under former president Zelaya, radio and television stations were required to air a series of 10 interviews with public officials starting in May 2007, following an increase in anti-Zelaya reporting. Zelaya frequently criticized the media and exerted pressure on journalists to curb negative coverage. According to a 2008 report by the Open Society Institute, journalists often entered into contracts with government officials and received payments in return for favorable reporting. The government under Zelaya was also prejudicial in supplying journalists with official information, favoring the more friendly outlets. Such problems were even more visible at the local level. -

Food Advertising on Television Targeting Children in Honduras by Matthew Donald Gunderson Department of Global Health Duke University Date:_______________________ Approved: ___________________________________ Sara Benjamin-Neelon, Supervisor ___________________________________ Dennis Clements ___________________________________ Gavan Fitzsimons Thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in the Department of Global Health in the Graduate School of Duke University 2012 ABSTRACT Food Advertising on Television Targeting Children in Honduras by Matthew Donald Gunderson Department of Global Health Duke University Date:_______________________ Approved: ___________________________________ Sara Benjamin-Neelon, Supervisor ___________________________________ Dennis Clements ___________________________________ Gavan Fitzsimons An abstract of a thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in the Department of Global Health in the Graduate School of Duke University 2012 Copyright by Matthew Donald Gunderson 2012 Abstract Background : Rates of childhood overweight and obesity have increased dramatically across Latin America in recent years. In Honduras, the problem is more common among children of upper and middle socio-economic status (SES). Evidence suggests that television advertising of high-energy-density (HED) foods may contribute to increased rates of overweight and obesity in children. Objective : The purpose of this study was to characterize the advertising of foods during television programming that targets school-age children in Honduras. Methods : Content analysis was performed on four different television stations accessible to children in Honduras, including one broadcast station and three cable networks. Programming for each station was observed and recorded for one complete week, during after-school hours (defined as 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday). -

Global Communications Mike Kohl Plain, Wisconsin Message Telephone 608-546-2523 ATLANTIC REGION FREE-TO-AIR C & Ku Band Satellite MPEG-2 & MPEG-4 Signals Received In Video & Audio Channels Continental U.S. Compiled by MIKE KOHL Updated Apr 25 2015 Send correspondence to 70 to 30 West C & Ku-Band [email protected] Since 1998, I have been providing a free service to the satellite reception community, spending many hours compiling information on free digital signals transmitted via satellite. Recently I have had to make major changes in my life that greatly reduce the amount of time available for such projects. After a major rework to bring information up-to-date, future updates may be limited to once every 3 or 4 months, and we have simplified listings to make updating less time consuming. Most current satellite receivers now have great scanning abilities for finding new signals, so we will include polarity and frequency information along with symbol rates for transponders. Those needing detailed info such as exact PIDs are hereby directed to Lyngsat and other sources. Since I cannot directly view any further east than 30 West, you are also directed to Lyngsat and others for current accurate information about those satellites. As a service to owners of the Manhattan RS-1933 satellite receiver, we will continue to make available a Preloaded Satellite, Transponder and Channel update approximately every 3 or 4 months for $25.00. Updates can be ordered and will be transferred via Email attachment.
