Situation Report Adamawa State Ministry of Health TTITLE COVID-19 Situation Report SERIAL NUMBER 22 EPID-WEEK 20 DATE 14th May, 2020 Highlights • No new case was reported. Total confirmed cases as at 14th May, 2020 is 21 • Eight (8) alerts reported were all investigated • 2 samples of suspected cases were taken. Results of 21 samples sent to the NVRI laboratory are still being awaited • Treatment centre was decontaminated, with special attention to safe zones where IPC protocols were breached. • 3 more patients were discharged from the treatment center. Total number of recovered patients discharged is 8 (7 from Adamawa and 1 from Gombe) Epidemiological summary As at 14th May 2020, 181 suspected cases have been reported. 21 confirmed positive, 137 negatives and 21 still pending. The confirmed cases are from Mubi South (2), Mubi North (8), Hong (2), Lamurde (2), Yola North (2), Yola South (1), Girei (3) and Madagali (1). Epidemic curve of confirmed cases of COVID-19 as at 14th May 2020 3 | Page Coordination: • Daily coordination meeting holding at the State level • The Incident Manager briefed the Hon Commissioner of Health on the challenges of the COVID-19 response • WHO shard logistics supply change management document for COVID-19 and the portal for registration that logistics pillars can use to access commodities Surveillance: • Eight (8) alerts reported were all investigated • 2 samples of suspected cases were taken. Results of 21 samples sent to the NVRI laboratory is still being awaited • Contact tracing is ongoing in LGAs with confirmed COVID 19 cases • Contact tracers in Mubi North and Mubi South were trained on ODK for contact tracing • Incentives to support 48 HCWs to conduct contact tracing in 8 LGAs for 2 weeks provided by NCDC Case Management: • 3 recovered patients were discharged from the treatment centre • Total patients on admission are 15 • All patients are in stable condition Infection Prevention and Control • 35 doctors and nurses from secondary health facilities and privately-owned health facilities were trained on infection, prevention and control in Mubi • LGA team members of all 21 LGAs were trained on COVID-19 preparedness for primary health care facilities using the Zoom conferencing platform Risk Communication/Social Mobilization • Radio discussions/phone-in programmes addressing stigmatization, stereotyping and COVID-19 prevention awareness is ongoing. Recent episodes addressed when and how to wear a mask • Ongoing daily broadcast of 25 jingles per day in Radio Nigeria Fombina FM, 30 jingles per day by Gotel Radio; 10 jingles per day by ABC Ratio, 5 jingles per day by Pulaako FM and 5 TV jingles per day in Adamawa State Television. • Sensitization/Advocacy visit to executive chairman, Fufore LGA and Mbamba Ardo Bashiru Community in Yola South LGA was conducted with support from NOA and NCDC Laboratory • Two (2) samples were taken today • Results of 21 samples sent to the NVRI laboratory is still being awaited • POE • 121 passengers of interest were screened international borders across 5 LGAs • Additional 37 passengers of interest were screened at Interstate borders. • 2 suspected cases were identified and the DSNOs notified 4 | Page Challenges. • Difficulty in identifying contacts of confirmed cases who are said to be reluctant to present themselves for testing because of the stigma associated with COVID-19 • Decline in the number of suspected cases reported and of samples taken for testing • Inadequate waste management at the Kofare isolation Centre Next steps • Advocate for the creation of environmental and engineering controls that will ensure separation between patients and health workers • Continue community engagement to address stigmatization of cases of COVID-19 • Advocate for improved waste management at the COVId 19 isolation Centre at Kofare 5 | Page .
