VICTORIAN RURAL POLICEMAN Mini Project 2017 Rural Constabularies were established following the Royal Commission which met between 1836 and 1839, the County Police Act of 1839 and the amending Act of 1840. In 1856 the County and Borough Police Act made the establishing of a police force mandatory for all counties and boroughs. All the police men in the mini project are listed as Police Constables in the 1881 census. The purpose of the project is to find out more about these rural policemen – who they were, how they lived and do they fit the quotations. It has been working hard to address the shortage of affordable housing within a predominantly rural area. The area covered by the project displays an extreme disparity between incomes and house prices which makes it hard for many to gain any secure footing within the housing market. The Rural Housing Project is designed to help promote and deliver affordable rural housing strategically across the project area and helps deliver Exmoor National Park housing policies within the park. This is being achieved by informing people about affordable rural housing, providing help and advice, carrying out research at a parish level to assess the affordable housing need and bringing together the community and various partners to help deliver housing where it is needed. One of the tasks for the project is to work with the Parish Council and the local community to assist them in carrying out a Housing Needs Survey in order to identify

  • HIW/18/46 Public Rights of Way Committee 5 July 2018 Schedule
HIW/18/46 Public Rights of Way Committee 5 July 2018 Schedule 14 Application Addition of a public footpath from the county road opposite Broadmoor Farm to the county road south of Watergate Bridge, in the parish of Chittlehampton Report of the Chief Officer of Highways, Infrastructure Development and Waste Please note that the following recommendation is subject to consideration and determination by the Committee before taking effect. Recommendation: It is recommended that no Modification Order be made to modify the Definitive Map and Statement in respect of the application. 1. Introduction This report examines a Schedule 14 Application made in December 2017 by a resident of Chittlehampton for the addition of a public footpath in the parish. The Definitive Map Review for the parish of Chittlehampton was completed in 1992. The application would normally have been deferred until the Review has been completed for the whole county, in line with the County Council’s Statement of Priorities for keeping the Definitive Map and Statement up-to-date. However, the claim has been made in response to a planning application for development of the land over which the claimed path runs. As there is a risk of the claimed route being lost through the development, the application has been brought forward for investigation in line with current policies. The evidence submitted in relation to the application is discussed in the appendix to this report. 2. Proposal Please refer to the appendix to this report. 3. Consultations General consultations have been
