She makes company debuts with St. Petersburg Opera (Florida) as Dritte Dame in Die Zauberflöte, with Pittsburgh's Resonance Works as Ježibaba in Rusalka, and with Washington Concert Opera debut as guest soloist in their Opera's Greatest Heroines gala concert. Concerto No. 1, written in 1927, is a vivid and witty example of his romantic spirit, exquisite melodies and rich yet transparent orchestration. Concerto No. 2, composed a decade later, is a darker, more dramatic and virtuosic work. The deeply-felt and dreamlike slow movement and passionate finale are tinged with bleak moments of somber agitation, suggestive of unfolding tragic events with the imminent introduction of the Fascist Racial Laws that led Castelnuovo-Tedesco to seek exile in the USA in 1939. The Four Dances from ‘Love’s Labour’s Lost’, part of the composer’s recurring fascination for the art of Shakespeare, are atmospheric, richly characterised and hugely enjoyable. This is their first performance and recording. After winning national and international awards, Alessandro Marangoni has appeared throughout Europe and America, as a soloist and as a © Zu Zweit chamber musician, collaborating with some of Italy’s leading performers.

HMU 907425.26 Essay by Richard Egarr BACH AND ‘CANTABILE’ HEAVEN On A New ‘Goldberg’ Thoughts on well-worn themes in the form of variations ‘…this point is too tenuous and contrived to be credible. It’s just arbitrary analysis, an esoteric treasure hunt to deliver whatever results the author wants to find there, to help him appear smarter and more thorough than…other people who know the music really well…’; ‘Sometimes a scale is just a scale…’ – Bradley Lehman, 12/1/05 1 HMU 907425.26 Essay by Richard Egarr In a chapter entitled ‘Freedom of Response to Music’ from his book ‘Music for all of us’, Leopold Stokowski writes this: A few individuals realised [Bach’s] greatness during his lifetime – now millions all over the world respond deeply and powerfully to the inner spirit of this music.
