Schiavo Kurt Cobain (1967-1994) musician, artist songwriter, and founder of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band, Nirvana, was dubbed, “the voice of a generation”; a moniker he wore like his faded cardigan sweater, but with more than some distain. Cobain’s journey to the top of the Billboard charts was much more Dickensian than many of the generations of fans may realize. During his all too short life, Cobain struggled with physical illness, poverty, undiagnosed depression, a broken family, and the crippling isolation and loneliness brought on by drug addiction. Cobain may have shunned the idea of fame and fortune but like many struggling young musicians (who would become his peers) coming up in the blue collar, working class suburbs of Aberdeen and Tacoma Washington State, being ii on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine wasn’t a nightmare image. Cobain, with his unkempt blond hair, polarizing blue eyes, and fragile appearance is a modern-punk-rock Jesus; a model example of the modern-day hero. -

Quasi aus dem Nichts erschien „The Sciences“, das aus dem sagenumwobenen Stoner-Doom-Legenden ganz aktuelle machte. Die Präzision der Rhythmen, die träge Schwere der Langsamkeit, die Virtuosität der zwischendurch aufscheinenden Gitarren-Soli: Mit einem lauten, krachenden Donnerschlag überbrückten die Kalifornier die 15 Jahre, die seit dem Erscheinen ihrer letzten Platte „Dopesmoker“ vergangen waren. 1990 von drei musikalisch frühreifen Teenagern gegründet aus den Resten der Hardcore-Band Asbestosdeath, machten sich Sänger und Bassist Al Cisneros, Schlagzeuger Chris Hakius und Gitarrist Matt Pike auf, Doom zu revolutionieren. Mit tiefer gestimmten Instrumenten, die über ausschließlich über Röhrenverstärker zu laufen hatten, und einer ebenso tiefer gelegten und verlangsamten Vision von Lärm nahmen sie dieses 63-minütige Doom-Metal-Stoner-Riffrock-Erdbeben-Monster auf – und lösten sich 1998 wegen interner und externer Streitigkeiten um genau dieses Album wieder auf. Doch jetzt sind Sleep wieder da, und die Band aus Oakland kann nicht nur durch die enorme Qualität ihrer Studioarbeit überzeugen. Vor allem live muss man Sleep unbedingt erlebt haben. Das bewiesen die Auftritte im vergangenen Jahr, bei denen das Trio eine dermaßen perfekte, wahrhaft massive, aber auch komplexe und dynamische Klangumgebung geschaffen haben, dass man seinen Ohren kaum traute und damit sich und das Publikum in eine enorm laute Trance spielte. Jetzt haben Sleep bestätigt, dass sie im Oktober für eine exklusive Show nach Karlsruhe kommen. -

Navigating Noise means getting off the beaten track in order to find, or rather, to create something new. This publication is the result of such unconventional navigations, which follow the track of noise on its path across art, science, and the humanities. The point of departure is the artwork Navigating Navigating Noise by Kerstin Ergenzinger. This ephemeral, somewhat Navigating out-worldly sound installation provides the framework for a collection of academic and artistic contributions that address the need for alternative means of orientation to deal with noise and to understand and (re)establish our unstable position within a highly technologized, mediated, and globalized reality. These navigations cover a broad terrain of research: from the starry skies to the deep oceans, from the ice cores of Greenland to sonic navigation in the animal kingdom, from spatial acoustics in World War I to noise music. Through a multidisciplinary approach, Navigating Noise paves the way for unexpected connections between research domains located at the border of knowing and not knowing. This endeavour tries to dig through and below existing semantic and epistemic systems. The contributors scrutinize the binary dichotomies of noise/information, noise/meaning, and noise/silence in order to reconfigure the relational framework that is constituted by these dichotomies. Released from this, noise no longer serves as the unwanted, semantic-free, and inefficient antithesis Noise that should be discarded, but rather embodies a dynamic, unpredictable, yet constitutive force with which we can soar towards more agile forms of sonic sense production. Noise Noise is the dynamic condition of the possibility for any form of meaning. -

Si terrà dal 5 al 23 settembre a Torino e Milano (questa è la sesta edizione che vede le due città proporre il festival in contemporanea), con 190 appuntamenti di cui 89 a ingresso gratuito, 101 saranno quelli con biglietteria a prezzi popolari, 4100 artisti coinvolti. "Ci siamo sforzati di offrire anche quest'anno, un'edizione alta per l'offerta e la qualità- ci tiene a sottolinearlo il sindaco Fassino- anche in una fase di difficoltà economiche, che rende più arduo sostenere gli impegni". Parallelamente al cartellone principale, ci sarà una rassegna che è stata denominata "MiTo per Torino", che si prefigge di tornare all'idea originale di Giorgio Balmas (colui che nel 1978 inventò Settembre Musica), ovvero EcoGraffi quella di portare la musica in ogni quartiere, biblioteche, carceri, ospedali, teatri, per far conoscere la musica Spot classica a più persone possibili. Per far questo si è dovuto rinunciare ai concerti al Palaisozaki. Il concerto inaugurale si terrà il 5 settembre al Teatro Regio alle 21 e sarà un omaggio a Debussy a 150 anni dalla Shinystat nascita, con Daniele Gatti che dirigerà l'Orchestre National de France, per un programma che prevede "Prelude á l'apres-midi d'un faune", "Ibèria", "La mer" seguirà "La Valse" poema coreografico di Ravel. -

La presente tesis de investigación se inserta dentro de los debates contemporáneos sobre cultura urbana en la frontera norte de México y se resume en tres grandes premisas: la primera es que el corrido y el metal forman parte de dos estructuras musicales de larga duración y cambio lento cuya permanencia es una forma de patrimonio cultural. Para desarrollar esta premisa se elabora una reconstrucción historiográfica desde la irrupción de los géneros musicales en el siglo XIX, pasando a la apropiación por compositores tijuanenses a mediados del siglo XX, hasta llegar al testimonio de primera mano de los músicos contemporáneos. -

Trīskārtējs Latvijas Mūzikas skolu jaunrades valsts konkursa laureāts. Pētera Vaska un Borisa Avrameca iedvesmots, iepazina elektroni- interpretāciju ir šajā žanrā īstenojusi (burtiski) lēnu revolūciju. Iespējams pilnīgi pamatoti saka, ka Sunn O))) piederot lēnākā un zemākā skaņa pasaulē. Viņu Vozenkrofts ar mūzikas izdevēja Maika Hārdinga palīdzību. Tā ir kalpojusi par radošu “tramplīnu” tādiem māksliniekiem kā New Order, Cabaret Voltaire, Džā sko mūziku. 2007.gadā sāka strādāt Betona rūpnīcā un tajā laikā arī apmeklēja kompozīcijas meistarklases Berlīnē pie profesora Dītera Maka, sāka spēlēt nosaukums aizgūts no vecajiem Sunn O))) ģitāras pastiprinātājiem. Jāpiebilst, ka vēloties panākt autentisku skanējumu, grupa priekš sava koncerta uz Rīgu Voublam, Robertam Vaietam, Einstürzende Neubauten un Current 93. Izdevniecība publicēja arī Eitnes Ni Bhraonainas pirmos ierakstus. Vēlāk viņa kļuva progroka grupā Olive Messa un sakrāja lielu industriālo skaņu kolekciju, ko izmanto savos elektroakustiskajos darbos. speciāli ved šos pastiprinātājus. Jābilst, ka koncerts, ar kuru viņi atzīmē savai desmitajai jubilejai veltītā albuma Monoliths & Dimensions izdošanu, ir Baltijā pazīstama kā īru popzvaigzne Enja.
