WHO ARE WE?
___ LE BUREAU EXPORT LE BUREAU EXPORT is a French non-profit professional organisation and network created in 1993, with the aim of developing music ‘made in France’ around the world. For over 20 years, it has worked hand-in-hand with French music industry professionals (record producers, show producers, publishers, managers) to develop the international careers of their artists, supporting hundreds of ‘made in France’ artists every year and promoting professional exchange between France and other territories. Le Bureau Export has 4 offices based in Berlin (for Germany / Austria / Switzerland / Netherlands / Poland), London (for the United Kingdom / Ireland / Scandinavia), New York (for the United States) and Sao Paulo (for Brazil), with a central office in Paris (for the other territories).
WHAT THE FRANCE is the brand new playlist service launched by Le Bureau Export. As streaming breathes new life into the musical economy and makes the global circulation of works easier than ever before, it is Le Bureau Export’s role to develop a tool specifically adapted to these new modes of consumption in order to promote music all around the world. | RAOUL VIGNAL (folk) | Wed 17 / Lutherse Kerk / 20:00-20:40 Forming the essence of Raoul Vignal’s compositions are his trademark soothing vocals and delicate fingerpicking played on alternate tunings. | TSHEGUE (soul garage) | Wed 17 / Grand Theatre, main / 21:30-22:15 Nicolas Dacunha, a native of the Parisian suburbs, and Faty Sy Savanet, born in Kinshasa, grew up in Lemba, a trendy district of the Congolese capital. The name Tshegue has double meaning: it is the nickname of the singer, and also the name given to the little boys in the streets of Kinshasa. | LYSISTRATA (rock) | Wed 17 / Huis de Beurs / 21:30-22:15 Lysistrata is a rock power-trio mostly instrumental operating somewhere between post-rock, noise and math-rock. Transcendental guitar finesse shines from a backdrop of unstoppable drum/bass impetus. | CHAPELIER FOU (electro) | Wed 17 / Der Aa-Kerk / 0:30-1:15 After studying classical violin and harpsichord, Louis Warynski composed his first songs, mixing violin with electro, then in 2009, he signed with French independent label Ici d'ailleurs as Chapelier Fou. | PAPOOZ (pop) | Thu 18 / Minerva, zuiderdiep / 20:30-21:10 Papooz’ pop spirit sways the hips with an exotic je-ne-sais-quoi. Ulysse and Armand are in their twenties, and both grew up with music from the 70s, from The Beach Boys to The Velvet Underground. | LOIC NOTTET (pop) | Thu 18 / Groninger Forum / 20:30-21:10 (+ Plato Groningen 12:50-13:10) Loïc Nottet is a young pop singer, composer and dancer from Brussels, who was the Belgian representant at Eurovision 2015. He released his first album Selfocracy in 2017, which went Platinum in Belgium and Gold in France. | CELESTE (metal) | Thu 18 / Machinefabriek / 22:10-22:45 Celeste is definitely a different beast. The French band plays a mix of sludge and post-hardcore with hints of black metal and doom. New album “Infidèle(s)” is another devastating piece that recalls post-and doom metal giants Neurosis, old Cult of Luna or Deathspell Omega. | KILLASON (electro-rap) | Thu 18 / Simplon, main / 22:15-23:00 KillASon is the latest in a long line of successful French hip hop artists, but one thing really makes him stand out: he raps in English. In fact this 22-year-old singer sounds like an American rapper, effortlessly aligning English punch-lines. | RONE (electro) | Thu 18 / DOT Dome / 23:15-0:00 In under 10 years, producer Rone has become a key part of the French electronic scene with a distinctive sound where sweet melodies can capsize at any moment, subsumed by his machines. | POLO & PAN (pop-electro) | Thu 18 / Huize Maas, main / 1:15-2:00 Half a decade after first hitting the decks of the famous Baron club (Paris), Alexandre Grynszpan and Paul Armand-Delille aka Polo & Pan finally released their first LP Caravelle. | CANNIBALE (garage) | Fri 19 / Huis de Beurs / 20:00-20:45 A joyous blend of garage rock, cumbia, African rhythms, psychedelia and baroque pop, Cannibale gets its name from its exotic garage music. | FOE (pop-electro) | Fri 19 / Doopsgezinde Kerk / 20:15-20:55 Foé is the debut project of 20-year-old producer Nicolas, from Toulouse. In his bedroom, he creates pop songs both in French in English, that are stylistically at the crossroads between Stromae and Woodkid. | CLEA VINCENT (pop-electro) | Fri 19 / Minerva, zuiderdiep / 20:30-21:10 A pianist with a background in jazz, Cléa Vincent breathes new life into the French chanson tradition mixing synthetic and organic alike, producing a modern sound of bright and uplifting electronic pop. | KAREEM KALOKOH (trap) | Fri 19 / Platformtheater, main / 21:30-22:15 Kareem Kalokoh is a Greek artist originally from Sierra Leone, founding member of the ATH KIDS collective. In 2015 he dropped his first tape on Soundcloud titled ATH2090's and released two videos that depict the grungy side and urban culture of Athens. That collaboration led them to post a few tracks on Soundcloud. Agar Agar’s debut album Cardan, influenced by pop and techno, is nonchalant and elegant at the same time.
