BOONZAEIJER/BOONZAJER/BOONZAAIER/ BOONZAIER/ BOONZAAYER/ BOONZAAŸER Wednesday, 23 November 2011 The meaning of the name : a man that repairs bones It should be noted that in the South African context there appears to be little genealogical significance in persons spelling their names BOONZAAIER or BOONZAIER in that the spellings are frequently interchanged between generations and siblings. However, as a broad generalisation the former is used in the platteland-based Afrikaner group and the latter amongst the Anglicised group in Cape Town and vicinity. The spellings BOONZAAYER and BOONZAAŸER have essentially fallen away. It has been pointed out to me on occasion that there are some inconsistencies in the information reflected on these pages. Gremlins in transcription aside, often the information accurately reflects that on the source documents. There are many potential reasons for these inconsistencies; amongst the most common I would suggest being human frailty, fallibility and fantasy. Jooste Boonzaier of Rhenen, Utrecht m.
