Main Celebrant: Archbishop Jose Gomez Concelebrant: Monsignor Terrance Fleming CATHEDRAL OF OUR LADY OF THE ANGELS Wednesday October 14, 2020 A very warm welcome to everyone— especially to all our young missionaries that join us today. Although, we are not able to gather physically at the Cathedral today like we do every year, we know that you are all present in spirit here with us today. We are here to celebrate YOU and your missionary efforts to help other children in other parts of the world through your participation in the Missionary Childhood Association. As one of the pontifical mission societies MCA is present in more than 150 countries all over the world. All donations given to MCA are from children to help other children. MCA fosters children’s awareness of the missionary nature of the church who are part of Catholic Schools and Religious Education by making them aware of their call to mission as members of the church. You as MISSIONARIES have given your answer of “Here I am, send me!” to God’s question of “whom shall I send?” to help those in the peripheries of society, those who are suffering and those who like you deserve to live with dignity as the children of God. Page 1 ENTRANCE HYMN— We Belong To You We belong to you, O Lord of our longing, We belong to you. In our daily living, dying and rising We belong to you. In the waters of your mercy, When the old becomes the new, Souls united in the mystery: We belong to you. Filled with gifts and filled with goodness, Spirit breathing life into All who seek to find their purpose: We belong to you. FIRST READING 1 Corinthians 12: 31-13:13 (Proclaimed by Valeria Torres, Nativity School, El Monte) Bothers and sisters: Strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts. But I shall show you a still more excellent way. If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, love is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not see its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will brough to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing. For we know partially and we prophesy partially, but when the perfect come, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I use to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child, when I became men, I put aside childish things. At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known. So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love. The word of the Lord: Thanks be to God RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 100: 1b-2, 3, 4, 5 Refrain: We are His People (Craig Colson, published OCP) GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (Sung) Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia Page 2 GOSPEL John 15: 12-17 Jesus said this to this disciples: “This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, Because I have told you everything I have heard from the Father. It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you. This I command you: love one another. The gospel of the Lord Praise be to you Lord, Jesus Christ.
