KILLING BONO a Nick Hamm Film
KILLING BONO A Nick Hamm Film Production Notes Due for Release in UK: 1st April 2011 Running Time: 114 mins Killing Bono | Production Notes Press Quotes: Short Synopsis: KILLING BONO is a rock n’ roll comedy about two Irish brothers struggling to forge their path through the 1980’s music scene… whilst the meteoric rise to fame of their old school pals U2 only serves to cast them deeper into the shadows. Long Synopsis: Neil McCormick (Ben Barnes) always knew he’d be famous. A young Irish songwriter and budding genius, nothing less than a life of rock n’ roll stardom will do. But there’s only room for one singer in school band The Hype and his friend Paul’s already bagged the job. So Neil forms his own band with his brother Ivan (Robert Sheehan), determined to leave The Hype in his wake. There’s only one problem: The Hype have changed their name. To ‘U2’. And Paul (Martin McCann) has turned into ‘Bono’. Naturally there’s only one option for Neil: become bigger than U2. The brothers head to London in their quest for fame, but they are blighted by the injustices of the music industry, and their every action is dwarfed by the soaring success of their old school rivals. Then, just as they land some success of their own, Ivan discovers the shocking truth behind Neil’s rivalry with U2, and it threatens to destroy everything. As his rock n’ roll dream crashes and burns, Neil feels like his failure is directly linked to Bono’s success. -

The Phenomenological Aesthetics of the French Action Film
Les Sensations fortes: The phenomenological aesthetics of the French action film DISSERTATION Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Matthew Alexander Roesch Graduate Program in French and Italian The Ohio State University 2017 Dissertation Committee: Margaret Flinn, Advisor Patrick Bray Dana Renga Copyrighted by Matthew Alexander Roesch 2017 Abstract This dissertation treats les sensations fortes, or “thrills”, that can be accessed through the experience of viewing a French action film. Throughout the last few decades, French cinema has produced an increasing number of “genre” films, a trend that is remarked by the appearance of more generic variety and the increased labeling of these films – as generic variety – in France. Regardless of the critical or even public support for these projects, these films engage in a spectatorial experience that is unique to the action genre. But how do these films accomplish their experiential phenomenology? Starting with the appearance of Luc Besson in the 1980s, and following with the increased hybrid mixing of the genre with other popular genres, as well as the recurrence of sequels in the 2000s and 2010s, action films portray a growing emphasis on the importance of the film experience and its relation to everyday life. Rather than being direct copies of Hollywood or Hong Kong action cinema, French films are uniquely sensational based on their spectacular visuals, their narrative tendencies, and their presentation of the corporeal form. Relying on a phenomenological examination of the action film filtered through the philosophical texts of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Paul Ricoeur, Mikel Dufrenne, and Jean- Luc Marion, in this dissertation I show that French action cinema is pre-eminently concerned with the thrill that comes from the experience, and less concerned with a ii political or ideological commentary on the state of French culture or cinema. -

However, we notice that artificially costumes are tailor-made for A Trip to the Moon in Georges Méliès and D. W. Griffith’s Intolerance. Presents Directed by Alice Waddington Running Time: 94 Min
Presents Directed by Alice Waddington Running time: 94 min Genre: Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Thriller Press Contact: KWPR - Katrina Wan, [email protected] Samuel Goldwyn Films – Ryan Boring, [email protected] LOGLINE A young woman is sent to Paradise Hills to be reformed only to learn that behind the high-class facility’s beauty is a sinister secret. SYNOPSIS On an isolated island, Uma (Emma Roberts) wakes up to find herself at Paradise Hills, a facility where high-class families send their daughters to become perfect versions of themselves. The facility is run by the mysterious Duchess (Milla Jovovich) where calibrated treatments including etiquette classes, vocal lessons, beauty treatments, gymnastics and restricted diets, revolve all physical and emotional shortcomings within two months. The outspoken Uma finds solace and friendship in other Paradise Hills residents -- Chloe (Danielle McDonald), Yu (Awkwafina) and Mexican popstar Amarna (Eiza Gonzalez). Uma soon realizes that lurking behind all this beauty is a sinister secret. It's a race against the clock as Uma and her friends try to escape Paradise Hills before it consumes them all. DIRECTOR’S NOTES In 2015, I began working on the treatment and first concept art pieces for Paradise Hills as my own kind of personal exorcism. I imagined more of a narrative feature than my arthouse short Disco Inferno – a tale that was Gothic, yet futuristic, a diverse story about universal female fears (loneliness, social rejection, hyper-control) set in our own world, a few decades into the future. I wanted to give girls and women an entertaining fairy tale that acted like a poison apple, filled with all of the visual and narrative treats that had fascinated me as a teenager: High fantasy, ‘90s shôjo manga, science fiction and costume dramas. -
After the Rain
After the Rain Dir: Takashi Koizumi, Japan/France, 1999 A review by Shulamit Almog, University of Haifa, Israel After the Rain is Takashi Koizumi's feature film debut, made in 1999, Shoji Ueda and Takao Saito as cinematographers. Akira Kurosawa wrote the screenplay, and Takashi Koizumi, who pays the late Japanese master a tribute in this film, attempted to make a film from Kurosawa's script, as he would have wished. The tribute quality of the film manifests itself most eminently when one puts After the Rain alongside Rashomon, Kurosawa's 1950 masterpiece, that is still possibly the best known Japanese film outside Japan. On the face of it, there is not much in common between the sombre, infinitely intriguing Rashomon and the delightful, lighthearted and light flooded After the Rain. In actual fact, there is a delicate web of links and connections between those two articulations, that correspond with each other. In both films most characters participate in several forms of judging, formal and informal, external and internal. They all judge and are being judged, cast adjudication and are subjected to it. In Rashomon a formal trial is depicted, alongside the internal ones. In After the Rain there is no formal trial, but all characters involved perform continuous ethical judgments of themselves and others. Rashomon begins in rain and ends with rain. Three people, who find shelter from the rain under the Rashomon gate, engage in narration. Two crimes -- a murder of a Samurai and rape of his wife -- are presented four times, in four different ways. The people at the gate renarrate the story of the formal judgment, where the different versions were first narrated, and, while doing so, judge the narrators, the characters of the narrative, and themselves. -
