Cumbria County Council Chief Executive’s Directorate Information Governance Team Lonsdale Building The Courts Carlisle CA3 8NA T: 01228 221234 F: 01228 226706 E: [email protected] Email: 14 July 2015 Your reference: Our reference: EIR 2015-0143 Dear ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION REGULATIONS 2004 - DISCLOSURE The council has completed its search relating to your request for information about public transport, which we received on 06 July 2015. The council does hold information within the definition of your request. Request I was wondering if you have already compiled a report on the coverage of public transport within your area (including each district and or / city council). I am particularly interested in seeing a table of modes, service providers, areas served (in district terms not roads) and when they started servicing those areas as a basic request. If you have more time, it would be nice to see how much of your area is accessible by public transport and the level of subsidiaries needed to support each service provider to maintain accessibility. Response Whilst there is no report on coverage of public transport in Cumbria, this information can be obtained from our Passenger Transport map attached. · Red routes are those with a 2 hourly of better service · Green routes have a daily bus service · Pink routes have a weekly bus service · Yellow routes have Summer only bus services Service numbers also appear on the map and timetables can be found on the Council’s website www.cumbria.gov.uk/buses. Timetables for all rail services, which in certain parts of the County provide the main public transport option, (e.g. Whitehaven – Barrow, Carlisle – Dent), can also be found on the site. Whilst there are large areas of the County which do not have public transport links, much of this area is very sparsely populated. The Council offers Demand Responsive Transport, through its Rural Wheels scheme, to residents in these areas. The County Council ceased to fund bus services in Cumbria in November 2014, as part of a need to find £80 million of savings on its overall budget. Some services are provided with the help of finial support from other bodies e.g. Parish Councils. The majority of bus services are provided by Stagecoach in Cumbria, with the rest provided by a number of small local operators, plus larger companies running into Carlisle from outside of the County.
