HEADLINES

What a wonderful week of opportunities for our pupils, finishing with an ex- cellent assembly delivered by the School Council marking Red Nose Day. There is power within a community. And the spirit of a ‘physical community’ is particularly strong, as evidenced by the delight on the faces of children and staff alike as we have settled back into face-to-face school; the spring in the step of parents goes without saying! We have all relished in-person and in-the moment interactions, whether in the classroom, playground, woodland or sports pitches. After so much time spent working independent- ly, it is important for us to appreciate the feeling of belonging to something bigger than ourselves.

Smiles have been the order of the day. Re-establishing routines has helped to settle any nerves your children might have had over the last week or so, but don’t worry if they have struggled to master everything straight- away; all form tutors and class teachers are here to help.

As mentioned previously, don’t be surprised if your children are especially tired – it takes a while to regain stamina. Some rest this weekend will help. Do continue to keep in touch if any particular worries or anxieties start to surface as your children begin to re-integrate into their friendship groups.

Best wishes,

Emma Neville, Head

evenings SUMMER TERM CALENDAR

Significant planning is going into a variety of events for next term but I apologise that reduced forward visibility makes confirmation of this calendar much more difficult than normal.

I am grateful to Mr Hinchliffe and Mrs Wren for all their positive work in preparing for the possible return of sports fixtures for all children in Years 3-8 next term. As well as requiring DfE guidance on school fixtures to change, we shall need to work through the risk assessments of transporting children to other local schools if there are to be away matches. We are planning a variety of events for Wellness Week, Science and Or- chestral Weeks, Focus and Outings Days. We aim to include a range of Science events, RS, Art and Hu- manities activities, House Matches, Charity activities and some special events for our Year 6 and 8 leavers. However, all events will certainly be different from previous years.

The Senior Play is likely to be filmed; and we are conscious of providing alternative performance opportu- nities for children with their music and drama. We are also planning transition events for our current Year 6 and Year 8 pupils.

The final weeks of term are likely to involve a Sports Day for all the children as well as a mini-Speech Day outside for Years 3 – 8: we shall aim to provide a special finale for Years 6 and 8. We hope that, by then, parents will be able to join us in person, however, if this is not the case a film will be provided. We will con- tinue to follow all areas of government guidance and will inform you closer to the time once final deci- sions and plans have been made, please bear with us.

Sunday March 21st is Census Day. Children have been learning why we have a ten year census and how the nationwide survey helps the government to plan for the future.

PI DAY

"Pi day was celebrated last Friday.

Pi is that number 3.14 ...... and is usually celebrated on 14th March as the date is written the American way - 3/14 just like Pi!

Lots of activities connected with circles were done in lessons including compass work, Pi skylines, Pi brace- lets, mystic rose constructions and fractions of pies.

Our assembly was the Dr Seuss book "Happy Pi day to You" featuring the Cat in the Hat. At lunchtime the vanilla sponge was circular and slices were cut.

Pupils decorated numbers which are being strung up in the order of Pi around the school."
