Dr. Anie Y. Assistant Professor (Biochemistry) School of Biosciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam E-mail – [email protected] . [email protected] Tel: 9947090370 CURRICULUM VITAE Date of Birth: May 5, 1980 Citizenship: Indian Address: Prakrithi Amalagiri P O Kottayam Kerala, India PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE • Assistant Professor : 2006 – till date, Asst. Professor in Biochemistry ,School Of Biosciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, 686560. • PhD : 2003-2009, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. • UGC-JRF(NET) : 2002 • M.SC Biochemistry : 2003, School of Biociences MG University, First class, Third rank . RESEARCH INTEREST • Immunobiology Research in the lab focusses on the behaviour of immune cells like neutrophils and monocytes during metabolic diseases like Diabetes and Atherosclerosis. In addition to that, contribution of NEtosis/Etosis, a recently discovered mode of defence mechanism in both neutrophils and monocytes, on the pathogenesis of Atherosclerosis via histone citrullination is also envisaged. Hormonal influence of PAD-4 gene activity which is necessary for NETosis on disease progression is another area of interest. • Natural Product Research Plants might serve as an important source for the isolation of potential lead molecules for drug development. Likewise, some of the bacterial/fungal strains may also produce potential therapeutic molecules. In the lab, we are looking for new Aldose Reductase Inhibitor molecules from plants and fibrinolytic enzymes from microorganisms. Inhibition of the Aldose Reductase enzyme of the polyol pathway is considered efficient in delaying or preventing development of secondary diabetic complications. Thus, identification and analysis of these potentially therapeutic candidates for efficacy, cytotoxicity and mode of action is useful in developing lead molecules. So the isolation, characterization and interaction studies of these molecules with the target enzymes or molecules may provide information essential for their utilization as drugs in the management of these clinical complications or diseases.
