Eine Brücke 1 Volunteers USO Wiesbaden in Action Volunteer of the Quarter Ann Lombardi Ann volunteers in many different areas for USO Wiesbaden. Not only does she help guests in the Cottage, she escorts USO tours as well! Join us in congratulating Ann! Why did you begin volunteering with the USO? Years ago while working in Korea as DoD Basic Education locally-hired teacher, I had the opportunity to experience the good work of the USO first-hand. I was very impressed with the dedication and caliber of the wonderful volunteers and promised myself one day I too would get involved. A retired U.S. Navy officer here in Hessen brought me on base for the first time last July. As soon as I spotted the USO office at the Exchange, I stopped by to find out how I could become a volunteer. What do you enjoy most about volunteering? I teach on the economy in Frankfurt and during my USO volunteer assignments, especially look forward to mingling with fellow English-speakers from the USA and other parts of the world we share. It is great not only to meet a variety of people but also to give back in some small way to the selfless women, men, and children who sacrifice so much for us. Whether it is helping out at a cook-out, pitching in at the USO Cottage, or assisting with one of the USO’s excellent tours within Europe, I am honored to be part of the Rhein-Main team of volunteers. What do you have to say to anyone considering becoming a volunteer? “Just go for it!” You couldn’t ask for a nicer, more appreciative, or more hard-working team of individuals. We roll up our sleeves, try our best to get the job done, and have a lot of fun too. Once you go through volunteer orientation on line, it is easy to put in for a specific event or activity via the USO volunteer website. As a volunteer since July 2015, I have been able to meet Fall, 2016 some terrific people and visit corners of Europe I might not have had the chance to see otherwise. Thank you, USO! TRAVEL TREASURES 2018 SEE AMERICA COAST TO COAST Dear Friends, What a change time makes in modern day travel. Growing up in the 1960’s and 70’s my parents seldom ventured beyond our hometown of Louisville, Ky. On occasion we would visit some relatives in Portland, Tn. but most often Eastview, Ky. was our “vacation” destination of choice. Tere my Dad’s parents lived on a farm with plenty of felds, woods, clean springs to drink water from, and barns to play in. In the evening we could watch westerns on the black and white TV screen. I could only dream of one day possibly getting to go out west. Guess what? Tis year my wife Donna and I did just that. We went on the Black Hills-Grand Tetons-Canadian Rockies Tour in August. Words can’t describe how great this trip was. Te wonder and beauty of God’s grace through this North American creation, what has sometimes been called breathtaking, is no joke. Lots to see and do, if ever possible give this tour a try. It was beyond my dreams. Our desire for you (our Shockey friends) would be to look through this 2018 catalog and maybe fnd a tour of your dreams and become venturous enough to fulfll it. Life is too short not to. Travel is easy, exciting, and relaxing with Shockey Tours. We can provide you with a worry-free vacation, one that ofers you the comfort of having a trained professional guide to care for you within the security of a group, and our professional drivers and comfortable coaches will ensure you the most pleasant trip possible.

Dear Friends, Wow, what an amazing and adventurous year 2016 has been. Here we are preparing for 2017 with some new as well as some past tour travels and this year is almost gone. We hope that you will join us on some travel adventures, make some new friends, and share many memories of the fun times you had while on tour with us. Donna, some friends, and myself went on our first Shockey Tour this past March to Washington D.C. for the Cherry Blossom tour. With several veterans on the bus joining us I was deeply moved at the memorials that we visited and I was extremely impressed with the tour operations of Shockey Tours. This is certainly the only way to go. There is no way I would want to do such a tour on my own. In 2016 we would distribute tour evaluation surveys to our passengers to which I get to review. These assist us in making changes, if necessary, to make Shockey Tours the best it can be. Most of the travelers that participated with the surveys were well pleased. For 2017 we have added the opportunity to pay online. Several of our travelers have asked about this option and now it has been put into place. Visit our website at www.shockeytours.com. Please take time and look through the new 2017 catalog, select where you may like to visit, and allow Shockey Tours to take you there. We appreciate your travel business and the opportunity to serve you.
