DENVER BRONCOS QUOTES (10/27/11)

HEAD COACH JOHN FOX

On TE “He’s been out a while. He got hurt in the Cincinnati game. He showed some good promise in the preseason. He’s very athletic. He’s got a wide radius, so he’s got a pretty good span as far as a receiver. He’s coming along as a blocker.”

On the tight ends “The other guys have done a pretty good job. [TE] Daniel Fells showed last week he is capable. So we’ve got a couple different guys there that can do that and he’s one of them.”

On DT “He’s a tremendous player. We had high grades on him coming out [of college], and he’s just continued that. He’s got a high motor. He plays snap to the whistle. I’ve got tremendous respect for him.”

On facing Suh “It’s hard to defend good players. It doesn’t matter what position. They present some matchup issues whether it’s Suh or [WR Calvin Johnson] ‘Megatron’ outside as an offensive player. This game is about matchups, and those guys are tough ones.”

On QB “I’ve studied him a lot more this year, obviously, because we play them, but he’s a good, young player. They got off to a great start at 5-0. They’ve had a couple tough losses against very good football teams here of late, but he’s a very capable young player.”

On WR Calvin Johnson “Up until last week when I was looking at ’s evaluation, I didn’t have any idea who ‘Megatron’ was, but I have known who Calvin Johnson was for some time. He’s tremendous because he’s got great size and speed. The height-weight speed matchup is tough. They throw the ball up to him in the red area. They throw the ball up to him on deep balls, and he’s come down with most of them. He’s a tremendous talent, and a big, physical body that is a tough matchup.”

On if only one guy can cover Johnson “I think sometimes you have to pick your poison, so to speak. They are able to run the ball, and that limits what you’re able to do as far as double coverage. Just like anybody, he’s exceptional because of his size, but you can’t double him all day.”

On CB Chris Harris “He had good football character coming out. He’s a guy that when you go through the college free agency—it happened a little bit later in the offseason this year—but that was kind of his M.O. coming out. He’s proved that to us over time as far as his competitive nature on the field and his work ethic to get better every day, and he has. He’s starting to reap some of those benefits.”

On noticing Harris in practice “In this profession you’re not prejudice. You’re not where you’re drafted, how much money you make. You just notice guys that make plays, and he’s done that.”

On looking at Harris before the “He’s a guy that we had a decent grade on; otherwise we wouldn’t have brought him in as a free agent.”
