FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 11/02/2018 WEEKLY “NOTES & NUGGETS” FROM THE PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME RECORD-SETTING MEMENTOS CONTINUE TO LAND IN CANTON; HALL OF FAMERS INSPIRE STUDENTS; LIST OF BROTHERS WHO’VE PLAYED PRO FOOTBALL CANTON, OHIO – The following is a sampling of events, happenings and notes that highlight how the Pro Football Hall of Fame serves its important mission to “Honor the Heroes of the Game, Preserve its History, Promote its Values & Celebrate Excellence EVERYWHERE!” WHITE GLOVE TREATMENT The Pro Football Hall of Fame is home to the world’s largest collection on pro football in the world. Each year, the collection grows as artifacts from milestone moments from the current NFL season arrive in Canton. Here are some of the artifacts that landed at the Hall this week. The Hall of Fame’s curatorial team put on the white gloves to handle the historic mementos: • Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri surpassed MORTEN ANDERSEN (2,544) as the NFL’s all-time leading scorer when he converted a 25-yard field goal with 26 seconds left in the second quarter against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018. The Pro Football Hall of Fame received the football kicked to break the record along with the jersey and shoes worn by Vinatieri. He kicked three more extra points in the game to finish the day with 2,550 career points. Vinatieri wrote a “2,550” sign (pictured) that he also sent to the Hall. • The football caught by Minnesota Vikings receiver Adam Thielen on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018 to reach 100 receiving yards against the New Orleans Saints. It was the 8th consecutive time Thielen reached the century mark and thereby broke Charley Hennigan’s record (7) for most games with at least 100 yards receiving to start a season. Thielen’s 100-yard game also tied Calvin Johnson’s record for most consecutive games with at least 100 yards receiving at any point in the season. Johnson achieved his streak during weeks 9-16 of the 2012 season. • The shoes worn by Chandler Catanzaro of the Tampa Buccaneers (lower right) when he kicked the longest (59 yards) game-winning field goal in NFL overtime history on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018. • The jersey (lower left) worn by Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018 when he threw for a Thursday Night Football record 465 yards. He had the most pass attempts (33) by any quarterback who achieved a single game perfect passer rating. HALL OFFERS FREE MUSEUM ADMISSION TO VETERANS & ACTIVE MILITARY The Pro Football Hall of Fame, as in the past, will provide free museum admission and parking to all veterans and active military plus a guest throughout November. This offer is good for all United States active duty including National Guard Reservists and veterans. The Hall of Fame’s annual Veterans Day Event takes place with this year’s program titled “Honoring the Nation’s Heroes” on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. The special guest of honor will be U.S. Army Veteran and Pittsburgh Steelers legend Rocky Bleier. The longtime running back and four-time Super Bowl Champion courageously overcame a severe foot injury, losing part of his right foot, during his service in the Vietnam War. Bleier will share more about his story of service at the event. In addition, several Medal of Honor Recipients will be on hand for the program. Class of 2018 enshrinee TERRELL OWENS received his Hall of Fame Ring of Excellence, created by Kay® Jewelers, from Hall of Fame President David Baker at halftime of the San Francisco 49ers vs. Oakland Raiders game. Images were shared on the Hall’s Instagram (left) and Twitter (right). MARSHALL FAULK & JOHN HANNAH CONNECT WITH STUDENTS THROUGH “HEART OF A HALL OF FAMER” PROGRAM The Heart of a Hall of Famer series, powered by Extreme Networks, provides students the opportunity to learn first-hand what it took beyond athletic ability for legendary Heroes of the Game to achieve success on and off the field. The program focuses on the Hall of Fame’s values: commitment, integrity, courage, respect and excellence. On Monday, a remote Heart of a Hall of Famer, part of the Hall’s Youth & Education programming, took place with Gold Jacket JOHN HANNAH at Huntsville (Ala.) High School. More than 700 student- athletes attended the program. Students from Glades Central (Fla.) High School and Watkins Middle School (Pataskala, Ohio) joined via Facebook Live. Hannah took time after the program to speak to some of the Huntsville football team, showing the offensive linemen some of the techniques he learned and used in the game when he played. JOHN HANNAH INSPIRES STUDENTS: “If kids apply themselves and have confidence – don’t let people get them down, tell them they can’t do things – they can accomplish what they want to.” This past Tuesday, a Heart of a Hall of Famer featuring MARSHALL FAULK took place at the Hall of Fame. Nearly 250 people attended the program including students from nearby schools which included Perry High School, GlenOak High School, Woodridge High School, Claymont High School, Project Rebuild, Inc., Louisville High School, Choices High School, Canton City Schools and the Stark County YMCA. Roxboro Road Middle School (Syracuse, N.Y.) tuned in via Facebook Live. MARSHALL FAULK INSPIRES STUDENTS: “Always hold on to your character. Always hold on to your core values. And to stick to them.
