Itaewon Global Village is looking for volunteers as a way to serve our Korean community. Below are the volunteer opportunities available that you might be interested in:

Mannasem Center: Homeless People Support Center (September 3rd, Tuesday, 11:30am-12:30pm) Mannasem offers a temporary home for those who are struggling through various difficulties in life. As volunteers, we will help them by preparing lunch and dis- tributing food for the homeless.

Yongsan Senior Welfare Center (September 17th, Tuesday, 1:00pm-2:00pm)

Spend time with halmeonis and harabeojis (Korean grandmas and grandpas) by having an English conversation with them as a part of their English class. This class is one of the programs of Senior Welfare Center to help prevent Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia. You do not need to be a native English speaker to join this activity, and it is a great chance for cultural exchange as well.

Yongsan Center for the Disabled (September 20th, Friday, 2:00pm-4:00pm) This activity involves simple cooking activity (like pizza, salad, sandwiches, etc.) with our friends in the center. This activity help them develop their life skills and also a good way for them to socialize and learn about different foods.

On Tuesday, September 17th, from 1:00pm-3:00pm, Itae- won Global Village Center will hold an “Aromatherapy Work- shop: Organic Lipstick Making Class.”

Through this class, participants will get a chance to make their very own essential oil lipsticks using all natural ingredi- ents, plus they can blend their own color too!

This class will be led by Ms. Connie Lee. Connis is a member of the IFPA (International Federation of Professional Aroma therapists). After the class, she will be giving free 1:1 consul- tation on aromatherapy to five lucky participants.

The fee for this class is 22,000won (for 2 lipsticks). However, if you can bring your own glass beaker (at least 25ml but no bigger than 50ml), you would only need to pay 20,000won. Additional 10,000won for every extra lipstick. Registration and pre-payment are required for this class. To register, email us your name, nationality, phone number and email address.

On Wednesday, September 18th, 3:00pm-5:30pm, the Itaewon Global Village Center will join “Non-Verbal Performance, [The Palace: Jang Nok-Su Jeon]” which is organized by Jeongdong Theater.

“The Palace: Jang Nok-su-jeon” is the story of dangerous Cinderella in Joseon Dynasty. Jeong Dong Theater is offering the unique perform- ance which is story-telling drama presented through Korean dance, without any speech. The brief story of the main scene will be shown on the screen (Korean/English/Japanese/Chinese subtitles).

Before the performance, participants will have a Janggu class and have a chance to learn how to play a traditional Korean instrument, Janggu which will be also used in the performance. Jungmyung Jeon is a historical building of Deoksu palace. Participants can visit the place freely during the waiting time.

On Friday, September 20th from 10:00am to 12:00pm, we will be taking a trip to the National Museum of Korea to learn the traditional Korean folk Painting: “Minhwa”. Par- ticipants will have an opportunity to draw on a traditional Korean fan.

Step 1: Concept and brief background explanation about Korean traditional painting: Minhwa Step 2: Learning about the usual images used in Korean folk art and basic painting techniques using Korean brush Step 3: Design your own fan

Sample works will be shown to give you an idea on what possible designs you can do, and instructors will be there to assist you when professional help is needed. This class is for beginners, so no need to worry even if you are not ar- tistic enough.

On Friday, September 20th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, Itae- won Global Village Center will hold a step-by-step paint- ing class: “Sunset with Pagoda Painting Class.”

This class will be led by Ms. Tanya Kim. Tanya, an art teacher from Kazakhstan, holds weekly art workshops for adults and kids in her atelier. This time, she will be sharing her talents at Itaewon Global Center.

She will be teaching the participants gradient technique using acrylic paint. Since this is a step-by-step painting class, all participants will be making one design only: sun- set with pagoda.

If you are a beginner or just want to explore your creativ- ity, this is a good class for you!

On Mondays, September 23rd and 30th, 1:00pm-3:00pm, Itaewon Global Village Center will hold an Introduction to Yoga Classes at the Itaewon 1Dong Community Center.

Four workshops in two days: You will be introduced to two popular and complementary styles of yoga Yin and Vinyasa, and build your own home practice. You will also learn the fundamental basics of yoga by learning how to effectively breathe. The classes are made for all levels. Mats will be provided.

On Tuesday, September 24th at 2:00PM – 5:00pm, Itae- won Global Village Center will hold a “Tour of Seoul (Hanyang) City Wall”.

Built in 1396, Hanyang City Wall was a fortress in the capi- tal city that has been protecting Seoul for more than 600 years.

Located in Dongdaemun Fortress Park, Seoul City Wall Museum is a museum that contains the history and cul- ture of Hanyang City from the Joseon Dynasty to the pre- sent.

This tour will be held in Seoul City Wall Museum (near Dongdaemun Station (Line1)). The tour will be free of charge but registration is a must. For this tour, partici- pants will need to register travel insurance, so Alien Regis- tration Card (ARC) number OR date of birth (year-month- day) is needed. All personal information collected from the participants will be used ONLY FOR THIS PURPOSE and will be deleted immediately after the tour.

On Wednesday, September 25th, 3:00pm to 4:30pm, Itaewon Global Village Center will hold a program called “Two Museums in One Stroll” touring both the National Museum of Korea and the National Hangeul Museum.

Is it your first time visiting Korea? Would you like to know more about Korean history and heritage? Don’t miss the opportunity to appreciate Korean cultural heri- tage through the National Hangeul Museum and the National Museum of Korea at the same time!

You will have a chance to view the exhibition “Document Heritage of Korea” which includes petroglyph, Korean people of prehistoric times, the first brush of Korea, metal-type printing and the Korean alphabet “Huminjeongum.”

The tour offers: 1) An English speaking docent with de- tailed explanations 2) A walk through the beautiful Yong- san Family Park.

On September 25th~ November 20th every Wednesday (total 8 days) from 2:30pm-4:30pm, (except for October 9th: Hangeul-nal) the Itaewon Global Village Center will hold a “Pilates Course for Beginners using Mini gym ball and Latex band Part#2.”

Pilates aims to strengthen the body in an even way, with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness and wellbeing. Pilates exercises are done on a mat with some equipments that the instructor requires throughout the session. All the equipments will be provided.

There's some evidence that Pilates can provide pain relief to people with non-specific lower back pain. Pilates is classed as a muscle- strengthening activity, which can help you maintain a healthy weight. Classes can vary in intensity: they can be gentle or dynamic and offer a solid workout.

We will be waiting for you to join and have meaningful experience while learning what Pilates is.

Mat, mini gym ball and latex band will be provided. Participants will need to prepare own gym clothes.

Celebrate the start of Autumn in Seocho! On Friday, September 27th from 10:00am to 12:00pm, Itaewon Global Village Center together with Seocho Tourist Information Center, will hold a “Global Seocho Cul- ture Experience” activity.

This program is especially designed for foreigners who have not been to Seocho district. Seocho is one of the 25 districts in Seoul and it is a part of the greater Gangnam (or South of the ) area. Through this activity, participants will have the chance to tour Seocho district starting from Yangjae Citizens Forest then to the Flower Market. But that’s not all, we will also get to make our own flower bou- quet.

On Friday, September 27th, 1:00pm~3:00pm The Itaewon Global Village Center will hold a “Homemade Fruit Tea Making Class.” Participants will learn the process of making homemade tea from A to Z; how to wash the fruits and bottles, what kind and how much of sugar to use, how to cut the fruit and etc… This session is not just a demonstra- tion class. Participants will need to cut the fruit and make their tea on their own by following the instructions.

In this class, participants will make 2 different types of homemade fruit tea. #1. Orange Mango Passion Fruit tea (300ml) #2. Apple Cinnamon tea (300ml)

All the participants will get total 2 jars of the tea (300ml jar each) what they made in class. The printed recipe will be given to participants so that participants can try it later at home.

Itaewon Global Village Center will be hosting its first event to commemorate the “International Day for the Universal Access to Information”, entitled “Living in Seoul Talk Series” on Septem- ber 28, 2019 (Saturday) from 9:30am to 6:00pm.

This series will be divided into three sessions: Part 1: Living in Seoul Orientation - A talk on basic information on living in Seoul, crime prevention, banking, medical care, Korean culture and so on. Part 2: Basic Korean Laws by Atty. Jaesung Hong of JS Legal - A talk on civil and criminal laws in Korea Part 3: Standard Korean Labor Law by Atty. Bongsoo Jung of Kangnam Labor Law Firm - A talk on basic labor laws

At Itaewon GVC, we believe that information should be accessi- ble to everyone, including foreigners residing in another country. However, due to language barrier, accessing right information might be daunting for most of the foreign residents in Korea especially those who are new to the country. As an aspect of Itaewon GVC’s commitment to support foreigners living in Seoul, and as an agency heading the international community, we up- hold the undertaking of promoting the importance of knowing one’s rights within the foreign community. This is also an oppor- tunity to help foreigners living in Seoul to have access to the valuable information that will help them adapt and make their lives easier.
