Adrienne Barbeau receives Coolidge After Midnite Award Star of The Fog and Escape from New York Adrienne Barbeau was presented with the Coolidge After Midnite Award in December, and took some time before the award ceremony to speak to students at the Boston Arts Academy about pursuing a career in acting. 2017 RECAP

FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILMS Cemetery Cinema debuts in partnership with Mount Auburn Cemetery The Coolidge began a partnership with the 45 historic and beautiful Mount Auburn Cemetery, presenting a double feature in September of FILMS DIRECTED BY The Seventh Seal and Harold and Maude. WOMEN 8

Coolidge Education Two new Coolidge Education courses ran in 2017, Mary Harrod’s “French Connections: The New Wave” and Kaj Wilson’s “Family Bonds,” and were attended by over 70 students. HIGHLIGHTS & SPECIAL GUESTS

National Evening of Science on Screen As part of the National Evening of Science on Screen, the Coolidge presented John Ford’s 1940 adaptation of the John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath. Award-winning author and environmentalist Bill McKibben discussed the science of climate change and the global implications of our warming world. THE GRAPES OF WRATH 10 Onstage @ the Coolidge As part of our commitment to host live performances from a variety of exciting artists, the Coolidge presented a screening of the music documentary The Jazz Loft, featuring a live performance by Kenny Werner. Other Onstage events this year included a performance by experimental metal band Sunn O))), and Maestro Fabio Frizzi performing his score live during a screening of Frizzi’s “composer’s cut” of The Beyond.

Film Trivia Night Fundraiser The Coolidge put on its first-ever Film Trivia Night fundraiser, in which some very knowledgeable movie buffs helped raise over $40,000 to support Coolidge programs and operations. HIGHLIGHTS & SPECIAL GUESTS

I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO post-screening discussion Following a screening of the new documentary I Am Not Your Negro, the Coolidge hosted a discussion moderated by Kim McLarin, with panelists Renee Graham of The Boston Globe, Baldwin biographer David Leeming, and Baldwin scholar Quentin Miller. 11

Access Fund screenings of STEP Using the Access Fund, the Coolidge brought students from Brookline High School, Brookline Middle School, Women and Girls Thriving in Brookline, West End House, Boston Arts Academy, and RAW Arts to see the acclaimed Sundance documentary Step at no charge to them.

DUNKIRK screens in 70mm The Coolidge was one of a select 125 theaters to screen Christopher Nolan’s award-winning World War II epic Dunkirk in 70mm. FACES PLACES FILMMAKERS, 13 WRITERS, AND SPECIAL 1 GUESTS

Over the past eight years the Coolidge has partnered with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to award 166 grants totaling $1,022,000 to 72 independent cinemas nationwide for use in creating and presenting their own Science on Screen programming. As in prior years, this year’s grantees include art house theaters and nonprofit organizations in every corner of the country, from Florida to Alaska and Maine to Hawaii.
