From page 3: MURAL At 16 feet by 80 feet, the frame inside the arena acts like a big wall, allowing Gaudet to do the mural in two sections. The top and middle were completed and now the artist is working on the bottom. The committee made up of about 15 people along with Gaudet authorized the colorized design and the lo- cal artist said, “For a town this size to take on a project of this scale is almost unheard of. Last week we had a sneak peek preview, 120 people showed up . . . it was a very good response.” He also hopes that when completed, the mural will act as a giant reminder of the history the community has. Mural committee member Lil Sather said the project was something they decided to do after Young’s 100th to make it commemorative for the centennial. “The money that has funded this is from community donations alone. We are still looking for more. Once this thing is up we would like to add lights maybe to it or do something else with it. Michael is doing a fantastic job and to see this now compared to what it was a month ago, it is just absolutely spectacular. “We are very proud of Michael and the project that he has taken on for us.” Sather said they are hoping they can stop traffi c on the highway with it. Signs will also be up at the en- trances to the village to highlight the new attraction. “It is just something that there won’t be any maintenance to it when it is done . . . it will be protected and it won’t weather.” Painting through the years Gaudet has been putting various coats on the mural Manitou Beach artist Michael Gaudet has been busy creating a mas- August or early September.
