North Hobart will be contesting their second consecutive Grand Final following last seasons defeat at the hands of SHSB while Clarence return to the showpiece for the first time since 2011/12 in which they defeated Kingborough. CT extends the best of luck to all competing players chasing success this weekend. In an exceptional feat, Clarence and Kingborough will be contesting 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade and Boy’s Under 17’s Grand Finals. The Roos finished first in 3rd Grade and second in 2nd Grade and Under 17’s while Kingborough finished first in 2nd Grade and Under 17’s. Both clubs have been strong across the grades all season reflected by their dominance in the Club Championship which Kingborough claimed back from Clarence this season. Those who walk away as premiers on the weekend will be joining those who have claimed silverware already this season. The 1st Grade Twenty20 and subsequent Statewide Twenty20 titles were claimed by SHSB while University broke a four year drought to claim the Kookaburra Cup which was also their last premiership in 2012/13. For the first time in five seasons, there was a new CTPL Women’s Twenty20 Premier with Kingborough claiming the title which had previously resided with North Hobart. The Demon’s were not without success though, claiming the inaugural Women’s Kookaburra Cup which was introduced this year as a knock out competition. The future is also bright at the TCA ground with North Hobart claiming the Girl’s Under 17’s in emphatic fashion. The Boy’s Under 15 competition also underwent a change this year with the primary competition becoming a One-Day competition, claimed by Kingborough, while a separate Twenty20 competition was introduced and went to New Town. A fitting result with both clubs runner up in the final they did not claim. The 40 and Over Grand Final was also contested by North Hobart and Clarence, the Roos running out winners, while Kingborough claimed the Under 18 vacation competition. For the first time since 2003/04, dual Emerson Rodwell medallists were crowned with Harry Allanby (Clarence) and Caleb Jewell (North Hobart) unable to be split. Allanby enjoyed success with both bat and ball for Clarence while Jewell had his best ever season with the willow. The Fazackerley Medal came down to the final round with Dutch international Sterre Kalis (University) narrowly edging out Clarence’s Olivia McDonald. Congratulations also the umpires appointed to the finals round and all those who have stood in finals throughout the season. The ongoing support cricket receives from the TCUSA is appreciated. Thanks to club administrations, coaches, volunteers and parents for the contribution they have again made of the season, and to CTPL Principle Partner Detail First and supporting partners Kookaburra Sport and Carlton United Breweries. CT also thanks the Kingborough Council, Hobart City Council, Clarence City Council, Glenorchy City Council, Brighton Council, The Hutchins School & University of Tasmania for their support through provision of grounds for our competition, and the outstanding curators and ground staff in the preparation of playing venues. Boasting the likes of Corinne Hall and Isobel Joyce, the target would have felt within reach and even more so after the Sharks moved to 0/20 from three overs. Leah Wierenga got the break through for the Knights in the fourth over, with Angela Green (2) caught behind and sparked a collapse for SHSB. Kristy Coppleman (1/25) claimed the big wicket of Hall (18) the following over before Wierenga (2/12) removed captain/coach Linsey Da Costa (4) LBW. The Sharks lost 3/5 in three overs bringing Kingborough roaring back into the match. Joyce and Carrie-ann White set about rebuilding the Sharks innings and at the half way point they were 3/53 and looking solid until a mix up and brilliant piece of fielding by Bonnie Davies caught White (8) short of her crease. Another mix up resulted in the dismissal of Astell (1) shortly after and the Sharks were on the back foot again. Joyce did her utmost to try and haul the target in but was running out of partners as Johanna Jones (2/15) claimed two wickets in the fourtheenth over. Joyce (50) was only removed with two balls to go registering a defiant half century before the innings concluded 8/102, 17-runs shy of the target. Earlier, Emily Divin combined with Louise Maddock at the top of the order to help the Knights capitalise on their choice to bat first. The pair worked hard, without boundaries they rotated the strike and ran quick singles to bring up the 50-run partnership in the ninth over but in the same over, Joyce removed Maddock (25) who skied a ball to midwicket. Kristy Coppleman (8) joined Divin at the crease but her stay was shorter than she would have anticipated, adjudged LBW off the bowling of Katie Court (1/23) in the twelfth over. Divin continued and after Lauren Hepburn (11) was run out, Divin carried her bat to raise what was the match winning half century and close out the innings 3/128 with Jo Jones (5 not out). Divin's unbeaten 58 from 56 balls earned her the Player of the Final. 4 CTPL WOMENS GRAND FINAL 2017-18 KINGBOROUGH SOUTH HOBART SANDY BAY R BF R BF *E Divin not out 58 56 C Hall b KA Coppleman 18 20 L Maddock c B Schiwy b I Joyce 25 27 +A Green c R Styles b L Wierenga 2 4 K Coppleman lbw b K Court 8 12 *L Da Costa lbw b L Wierenga 4 7 L Hepburn run out (T Assmann) 11 16 I Joyce c A Kelly b BH Davies 50 52 J Jones not out 5 9 C White run out (BH Davies) 8 14 E Dick L Astell run out (J Jones) 1 3 +R Styles L Newell b J Jones 1 3 B Davies B Schiwy b J Jones 0 2 A Small K Court not out 7 14 L Wierenga C Squires not out 0 1 A Kelly C Assmann A Ratcliffe T Assmann Extras (nb 0, w 17, b 0, lb 4) 21 Extras (nb 1, w 8, b 2, lb 0) 11 Total 3/128 (cc) Total 8/102 (cc) Overs 20 Overs 20 FOW: 55, 70, 100 FOW: 20, 25, 25, 57, 61, 67, 67, 101 Bowling O M W R Bowling O M W R L Da Costa 4 0 0 20 B Davies 4 0 1 28 L Astell 3 0 0 26 L Wierenga 4 1 2 12 I Joyce 4 0 1 22 K Coppleman 4 0 1 25 B Schiwy 2 0 0 17 J Jones 4 0 2 15 K Court 4 0 1 23 L Hepburn 4 0 0 20 C White 3 0 0 16 5 KOOKABURRA CUP GRAND FINAL 2017-18 A man of the match performance by UK import Jack Laraman guided University to a comfortable eight wicket win over Clarence in the Kookaburra Cup Final. The Lions had a winning start to the day with Nick Grubb calling the toss and electing to bowl first. The test calibre opening bowling attack of Ben Hilfenhaus and James Faulkner were economical early, restricting Clarence to 26 from the first nine overs but were unable to get the breakthrough. There was little respite for Roos openers Harry Allanby and Jesse Dinnie having seen off the new ball with Gordon Kerr and Andrew Perrin introduced into the attack. Allanby (21) saw the change of bowling as an opportunity to change the momentum but in attempting to drive Perrin over the infield miscued the ball to mid-off and became the first wicket of the day.
