The choice of a bottle of wine is affected by the presence of attributes that are searched by consumers and can be evaluated before the purchase. The aim of the paper is to analyze the effect of some search attributes on wine price variability applying the Hedonic Price Model. It allows explaining how the price of wine varies depending on its main quality attributes. The analysis has been based on a sample of wines made in Puglia, Italian region characterized by a tradition in wine production and consumption. Data have been collected from a wine guidebook considering the years 2008–2013. The study provided a measure of the market value of some search attributes for wines produced in Puglia. Attributes as alcoholic content, age and score given by experts, influence price variability allowing wines to obtain a premium price, such as the most known Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and some Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). The name of the variety seems not to have high influence with the exception of less known and locally grown varieties. Results may be of interest for marketers and policy makers of wine industry.

    HIGHLAND FINE WINE APRIL 2018 HALF CASE - RED Centonze Frappato 2016 - (Mixed/Red Club) $18.99 Frappato is a grape native to Sicily and is much like Pinot Noir in its treatment in the vineyard and in the winemaking process. The grapes are grown organically and much care is required in the vineyard as Frappato is very fussy and requires just the right environment to grow ripe. Too much sun and the grapes will taste baked, too little sun and the juice will have green aromas that are off putting. Frappato is always planted on hillsides with southern exposure at higher elevation. This creates the proper warm days and cool nights that the fickle grape needs to become fine wine. This wine has flavors of bright red cherry, field strawberries and a freshness from aging in stainless steel that is perfect for warm spring days on the porch. La Braccesca 'Sabazio' Rosso di Montepulciano 2015 - (Mixed/Red Club) $14.99 This wine is made from the Sangionvese clone Prugnolo Gentile and is one of the first appellations to receive DOC status in Italian wine law. The wine is made in the town of Montepulciano which is just south and east of the recently famous town of Montalcino which makes another famous Sangiovese wine from the clone Brunello. The wine should not be confused with the grape Montepulciano which is produced on the other side of Italy in the region Abruzzo. This wine is made with mainly Prugnolo Gentile with a bit of Merlot added that gives the wine a more refined tannic structure.

    La viticoltura per vini bianchi in Puglia DOMENICO RENNA, VITO PAVONE1 Brevi notizie storiche Al fine di agevolare la comprensione del radicamento delle viticoltura pugliese sul suo territorio è opportuno fornire brevi notizie di carattere storico. Circa una diecina di anni fa parlando ad un congresso dell’Associazione Enologi Italia- ni definimmo la viticoltura pugliese “Un’antica viticoltura per una moderna enologia”. Ri- teniamo quella frase un’immagine efficace per raccontare in estrema sintesi la storia della vitivinicoltura della nostra Puglia. Gli assetti viticoli della Puglia corrispondono tuttora alla ripartizione storica pre-roma- na della nostra terra. È una tri-ripartizione che caratterizza e differenzia la regione al punto tale da essere molto spesso denominata al plurale “Le Puglie”, anziché al singolare “Puglia”. A queste tre aree dal punto di vista viticolo viene legata la presenza di tre vitigni stori- ci, ma ancora in auge, e sono: per la Daunia a nord “l’Uva di Troia”, per la Peucezia nel- l’area centrale il “Primitivo”, per la Messapia nell’area più a sud, corrispondente al Salento, il “Negro Amaro”. Per entrare nel tema assegnatoci, della “Viticoltura per vini bianchi in Puglia”, bisogna precisare che a queste tre aree ben delimitate se ne aggiungono altre, più blandamente de- lineate, che con la loro peculiarità caratterizzano l’enologia dei vini bianchi. A nord vi è l’area di San Severo che risente delle influenze culturali picene ed etrusche perché insieme al vitigno autoctono “Bombino bianco” troviamo da sempre il Trebbiano. Vi è poi un’area centrale che si estende a sud-est di Bari e raggiunge la sua massima spe- cificità intorno ai colli di Locorotondo e Martina Franca dove si è diffuso il vitigno autoc- tono “Bianco d’Alessano”.
