Since then, life in Europe and beyond has been turned on its head by the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus. Football has been brought to a halt at both European and national levels. UEFA has been forced to postpone all its club and national team competitions until further notice, while moving EURO 2020 to the summer of 2021 and UEFA Women’s EURO 2021 to the following year. UEFA reacted swiftly in making these decisions, within a full and frank consultation process not only with its 55 member associations, but also with fellow football stakeholders – clubs, leagues and players’ unions. It was the correct decision at the right time, based on common sense, in compliance with national measures and World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations. The unprecedented circumstances indeed made it impossible for any sport to take place. I have been extremely proud of how UEFA and its stakeholders have acted together in a spirit of full and honest cooperation at this time. This spirit remains truly alive within a situation that is in a state of constant evolution.

    ^y Number 7 6c 8 March & April 1969 Volume 7 MATCHBOX LABELS - Jim Hughes - Recently a set of 120 Hungarian 'matchbox labels' came into my possession which portray many of the Modern Olympic Medalists. These labels are printed in blue and are numbered from 1-120, inscribed with the initials "M S Z" which I am told stands for "Magyar SrovetBeg" (Hungarian Federation) with each label printed with a /+0f value, on white paper measuring 3/+ x 50mm. I believe these labels were issued in I960, but I have as yet been unable to learn the complete atory behind them, however it is doubtful that they were issued for fund raising purposes. Perhaps some of our members can shed more light on this set as well as other Hungarian matchbox labels which I have just learned do exist. I am told these labels are printed in various colors, and on various colored paper featuring athletes and views of the Rome Olympics. If any of our members have them I would like to borrow or purchase them, so that the data on them can be recorded here. This set of matchbox labels from Hungary features a vivid history of the Modern Olympic Games from the First International Olympic Committee session of 189<+ in Paris (on No. t\) down to the clos­ ing ceremonies in Rone (No. 120) where the scoreboard is lit up with the word TOKYO. Following is a list of the Olympic Medalists pictured on this set of Hungarian matchbox labels, in alphabetical order. I dream that football will continue to fill everyday life with passion and emotion; that we will learn to consider it again as a game first and foremost and not as a source of profit; that the politicians will do everything in their power to allow the game to regulate itself, democratically and with appropriate legislation; that, out of the stadiums, a formidable surge of solidarity will emerge and that a wave of sportsmanship will sweep away racism and all forms of discrimination; that respect for others will prevail at all times; and, above all, that football will continue to make children’s eyes sparkle with wonder – something it does so well.

Un chêne dont la forme était tordue et un peu laide, à force, sans doute, d’avoir été rabattu et étêté dans le but de le rajeunir. Lors de la const- ruction en 1913 du premier stade olympique de Berlin en 1913 (pour des jeux qui n’eurent jamais lieu) on en avait plan- té un que l’on avait baptisé Chêne de Von Podbielski en l’hon- neur d’un homme Viktor Von Podbielski qui avait servi la cause du sport allemand. À la construction du nouveau stade en 1936, on avait apparemment conservé l’un des arbres sans être sûr que ce fut le bon. Son positionnement juste à droite après le passage des grilles était un peu étrange au sein de ce lieu dont le dessin était entièrement maîtrisé. Le comité olym- pique avait décidé que chaque vainqueur recevrait en plus de sa médaille, une couronne de feuilles de chêne, ainsi qu’un jeune plant d’un an.
