MARYKNOLL SISTERS: MEET OUR LEADERSHIP

Sister Janice McLaughlin, President— An award-winning author and journalist, Sister Janice has spearheaded the communications efforts of dioceses in Kenya and Tanzania. Prior to being named president of Maryknoll Sisters Congregational Leadership Team, she also served as an education consultant to the office of Zimbabwe’s first presi- dent, Canaan Banana; worked with the Zimbabwe Mozambique Friendship Association for relief aid; and as a training coordinator for Silveira House, a development education center in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Sister Rebecca Macugay, Vice President — A graduate of the University of Massachusetts Center for International Education with a Master’s in education, Sister Rebecca served as Mission Project Funding Director for Maryknoll Sisters prior to assuming her present posi- tion. Previously, she worked in leadership development in South Africa and Namibia; com- munity-based health education, adult literacy, youth ministry and pastoral care in Kenya; and medical laboratory management at Mwanza Hospital in Tanzania. A Maryknoll Sister since 1969, she also holds a B.S. in medical technology from the University of St. Thomas College, Ma- nila, .

Sister Ann Hayden, General Secretary — A graduate of St. Louis University in Missouri with a B.S. in nursing, Sister Ann served as director of nursing services for Maryknoll Sisters at their Center in Ossining, NY, prior to assuming her present position. Previously, she worked in pastoral ministry, leadership training and health care in Nicaragua, provided medical ser- vices to refugees in Kenya and Sudan, and was a nurse in .

Sister Bitrina Kirway, Assistant Secretary — A native of Tanzania with a Bachelor of Social Work earned in 2000 at the University of Hawaii, Sister Bitrina served for many years in Hawaii, working in pastoral care, prison ministry and in child and family services. She was elected to the Congregational Leadership Team in 2008.

Sister Regina Pellicore, Treasurer — Raised in Chicago, IL, Sister Regina worked with the rural poor in a community-based health and education program in Phnom Penh, Cambo- dia,from 1995 - 2010 prior to being named Treasurer of Maryknoll Sisters, a position she also held from 1985-1992. She also served for many years as a school teacher and admin- istrator in Kaneohe, HI.

Sister Ann Braudis, Maryknoll Office of Global Concerns — Co-chair of the UN NGO Commit- tee on Sustainable Development, in conjunction with her work in the Office of Global Con- cerns, a joint venture of Maryknoll Sisters, Maryknoll Fathers & Brothers and , Sister Ann served as director of the Maryknoll Ecological Sanctuary in Manila, Philippines prior to assuming her present position. A graduate of the Asian Social Institute, Manila, where she earned a doctorate in Applied Cosmic Anthropology, she has also worked as an educator and in pastoral ministry in Bolivia.

Sister Janet Hockman, Vocation Director— A graduate of Fordham University, Bronx, NY, with an M.A. in Religious Education, Sister Janet joined Maryknoll Sisters in 1986. Prior to serv- ing in her present position, Sister Janet served as a counselor for students of St. Xavier’s School, Kathmandu, Nepal, and pastoral minister, conducting retreats and prayer days for men and women religious of Micronesia.

Sister Maria Homberg, Mission Institute Director — A graduate of Columbia University with a Doctorate in Education, Sister Maria was a member of the nursing faculty at the College of the Marshall Islands, Majuro, MH, prior to assuming her current position with Maryknoll PO BOX 311 Sisters. Previously, she served as dean and associate professor of nursing education at MARYKNOLL, NY 10545 Bethlehem University of the Holy Land, an assistant professor at Pace University, a nurse and adjunct faculty member at Maryknoll College, Manila, Philippines; and director of nurs- 914-941-7575 ing services at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Manapla, Philippines.
