SEQUENCE Mode I Come, thou Holy Spirit, come! Where thou art not, we have naught, And from thy celestial home Nothing good in deed or thought, Shed a ray of light divine! Nothing free from taint of ill. Come, thou Father of the poor! Heal our wounds, our strength renew; Come, thou source of all our store! On our dryness pour thy dew; Come, within our bosoms shine! Wash the stains of guilt away: Thou, of comforters the best; Bend the stubborn heart and will; Thou the soul’s most welcome guest; Melt the frozen, warm the chill; Sweet refreshment here below; Guide the steps that go astray. In our labor, rest most sweet; On the faithful, who adore Grateful coolness in the heat; And confess thee, evermore Solace in the midst of woe. In thy sevenfold gift descend. O most blessed light divine, Give them virtue’s sure reward; Shine within these hearts of thine, Give them thy salvation, Lord; And our inmost being fill! Give them joys that never end. Amen. Alleuia!

ST. JAMES CATHEDRAL SOCIAL JUSTICE SUMMER FILM SERIES

RACING EXTINCTION Tuesday, June 27, 7pm

Sponsored by the Care for Creation Committee (Unrated) Scientists predict we may lose half the species on the planet by the end of the century. Evidence shows that humanity has sparked this catastrophic loss. We are the only ones who can stop it as well. Director Louie Psihoyos has concocted an ambi- tious mission toz call attention to our impact on the planet, while inspiring others to embrace the solutions that will ensure a thriv- ing planet for future generations.

UNDER THE BRIDGE: THE CRIMINALIZATION OF HOMELESSNESS Tuesday, July 25, 7pm

Sponsored by the Housing Advocacy Committee (Unrated) One summer in Indianapolis. A tent city under a bridge. The criminalization of homelessness in the United States. The unofficial "mayor" of the Davidson Street camp, Maurice is an older, dreadlocked Black man who has dropped out of "normal" society to minister to the homeless. His camp under a railroad track becomes a real community, supported by church volunteers, until police and bulldozers close in to shut it down.

THE NAMESAKE Tuesday, Aug 29, 7pm

Sponsored by St. James Immigrant Assistance (PG-13) The experiences of immigrants and their American-born children are depicted in this film directed by Mira Nair. A re- cently wed couple, in an arranged marriage, leaves Kolkata, India for New York, where they settle and raise a family. While the fo- cus is on their son’s cross-cultural experiences and exploration of his Indian heritage, it also shows their difficulties accepting Western perspectives on dating, marriage and love.

All films begin at 7pm SHARP in the Holy Names Room, Pastoral Outreach Center.

There will be a brief discussion after each film. The Cathedral will provide popcorn and drinks. Consider bringing food to share, pot-luck style. We encourage local, organic, sustainably-grown, home-made food or offerings with minimal packaging.

Volunteer Services is a program of Catholic Community Services committed to helping low-income elders and adults with disabilities remain independent in their own home through a network of caring community members. St. James Cathedral is one of multiple parishes that collaborate with Volunteer Services.

Our volunteers assist with tasks such as household chores, yard work, transportation, or grocery shopping and are free to choose the number of hours, location, and type of volunteering that works best for them. We have many people waiting to be matched throughout King County and every new volunteer helps us get another client help with services that allow them to remain living independently.
