We have printed Competition 2012 some of your comments in this edition. 10 Disco Inferno It is also pleasing that so many former pupils 12 The Blitz continue to write in with their reminiscences 14 From Jordanhill to the Oscars and life stories. 18 S6 Charity Dinner 2012 20 S6 Charity 2012-2013 Last session was a difficult one for the School with the untimely 22 Etta Galbraith deaths of staff family members and former pupils either side of 24 Dr Joe McKendrick Christmas. Thereafter, June saw the passing of our beloved bursar 26 Jane Cormack Etta Galbraith closely followed by that of another Jordanhill legend Joe McKendrick who retired only three years ago. 28 A Seaward Explorer 29 Archive Films I write about Etta inside and I am grateful to former pupil and 30 Class of ‘71 40th Reunion journalist John MacLeod for giving us permission to adapt his 31 Walker Cup 50th Anniversary article about Dr Joe. I had the pleasure of meeting Jane Hennon Jubilee Celebrations (nee Cormack) and husband Michael when they visited the 33 Sistema Scotland’s Pop-Up School some years ago. We were all saddened to hear of her Orchestra sudden death. -

Delivering Quality First in Scotland DELIVERING QUALITY FIRST IN SCOTLAND EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The BBC is the most trusted broadcaster in Scotland and a core part of the life of the nation. It unites the audience in enjoyment of the most popular TV, radio and online services, while also championing the diversity of the interests, cultures and languages of this nation of islands and regions. It is valued for upholding the highest standards of quality. The BBC’s commitment to Scotland is to offer a range and depth of programming which is both widely relevant and uniquely distinctive. As the only broadcaster which has invested in covering the whole country across all platforms, it is well-placed to do this. The BBC’s ambition in Scotland is to serve as a national forum, connecting the people of Scotland to each other, to the wider UK and to the rest of the world. As a public service broadcaster which has secure funding and global reach, the BBC is well-placed to achieve this. The BBC provides value to audiences in Scotland in two main ways: through programmes and services which are made in and for Scotland specifically; and through programmes and services which are broadcast across the whole UK. In Scotland, the audience rates the BBC as the leading provider of both Scottish news and non-news programming. Reporting Scotland has the highest reach of any news bulletin; TV opt-out programming1 reaches 44% of the audience every week and is highly appreciated; BBC Radio Scotland is second in popularity only to BBC Radio Two; BBC Scotland’s online portfolio has 3.7m weekly UK unique browsers2; and BBC ALBA attracts half a million English-speaking viewers to its Gaelic TV channel every week. -

The Glasgow Academy WW1 Roll of Honour From the onset of the First World War in 1914 until 1918, the Glasgow Academy suffered a great many losses during the conflict. In fact, it is believed there was a higher number of losses incurred when compared to other independent schools of the time. The following is a list of the former pupils who were casualties and as far as we have been able to, includes information and photographs to tell the stories of these men. In some case, we have little or no information about some of these individuals, so please get in touch if you have anything which could help us fill in the gaps and help us tell their stories. Smith St., Hillhead, Glasgow, West 2 Private George W Allan* Biography According to his father, Reverend Charles Allan, his son was 'mentioned in officers' letters for bravery. Going to the help of wounded comrades and was said Highland Light 31st August 1894- 17th Son of the Rev. by his own comrades to have earned the Infantry April 1915 Charles Allan, M.A., Victoria Cross "half a dozen times over"'. and Margaret Allan, He was awarded the 1914 Star Age :21 of Duneira, Greenock posthumously 3 Lieutenant Ramsay Allan Biography Ramsay was an only son. -

CEM data has been used as predictive indicators of performance as well as providing robust, reliable and objective information to help us facilitate self-evaluation and inform learning and teaching. Other recent quantitative data includes attendance figures (particularly at the end of each term), positive destination statistics (from our SDS partner), and FME, LAAC and exclusion figures. This information has been used to ascertain current positions as well as making judgements with regards to improvements in the MCMC agenda, attainment performance and meeting pupils needs. Our VSE Authority Review Visit 2014 helped us gather crucial information about overall pupil experience and helped to determine strategic priorities for improvement for session 2014 -2015 specifically, but also for improvements in subsequent sessions including 2015-2016. -

We continue to develop new innovative approaches to education-employer partnerships; develop work based learning options which enable our young people to learn in a range of settings and ensure they have the skills and knowledge required to reach their full potential. 2018 was the Year of Young People which saw young people positioned at the heart of key decision making and policy. DYW Ayrshire recognised it was necessary that this legacy continued which resulted in us welcoming Aaran McDonald, Member of The Scottish Youth Parliament for Cunninghame South, on to our Steering Group. His input ensures that young people will have a voice on the decisions taken by the Steering Group. The report will highlight best practice and added value that the Ayrshire Regional Group has delivered during the past year. Executive Summary 3 dyw profile 2019 saw our third annual conference which showcased the many successes that have been achieved in Ayrshire. It highlighted ways that all sizes and sectors of employers can become involved in education and help develop Ayrshire’s young people into their future workforce.
