Improve your chances of becoming a doctor – Saturday 3rd February Improve your chances of becoming a lawyer – Sunday 4th February Both of these will be held at UCL from 10:00am until 4:30pm Here is a link for more information and to book: www.epoc.org.uk Access Programme for year 12 students at University of Oxford Oxford offer an Access programme called UNIQ which is a summer school however they are expanding it to become a Spring conference and a digital learning portal now enabling up to 2000 students to attend. This is an academically intensive course that gives you advice on Oxford admissions and also to equip you with applications for all your university options. Applications are open on Thursday 14th December until the 31st January and it is free. This is to aid sixth formers by giving them information on universities, degree courses and apprenticeships that are most likely to lead to a successful graduate career in the future. It will be held in the Legal and General Investment management offices at No.1 Coleman Street London at 2pm on the 1st of December. Kings College University taster courses New taster courses have been added for English, French, Global Affairs, Global Health & Social Medicine and Music. The event involves living in colleges and attending a series of mini-lectures and social events such as a mock trial to give you a taster of what studying law is potentially like. University & Apprenticeship fair Fair for year 12 students being held at Emirates Stadium on Friday 2nd March and it is free of charge. It includes universities from the Russell Group and the University of Oxford and many apprenticeship companies. Morgan Stanley pre-university insight programme Morgan Stanley, one of the world’s leading investment banks, are holding a 2-day insight programme for sixth form students. It will be held on the 13th – 14th February and will involve panel sessions, case studies, divisional overviews and interactive workshops. This event will give you the opportunity to work as a team, develop presentation skills and network with employees. Will be held on the 25th November at Stoke Mandeville Hospital from 8:30am – 3.00pm and it will be run by 2 experienced doctors – GP, Dr Perry and Plastic Surgeon, Dr Majeed. Year 12 Reading University scholars programme The year long programme gives you the opportunity to gain insight on what university life may be like in terms of studying a degree and advice on higher education in general. It takes place at the University of Reading and will entail four events throughout the academic year. 1. In December – a subject masterclass led by academics in your chosen subject area 2. In February – a ‘student experience’ day, where you’ll spend the day with your student mentors 3. In March, an information day on study skills and higher education information where you will discuss University applications with admissions tutors and attend particular sessions on revision skills 4. In June, a three-day residential summer school that aims to increase your subject knowledge and skills for University The only subjects available are: Art and design, Biology, Business, Chemisty, English Literature, Modern languages and Mathematics. The application deadline is the 10th November. There will also be workshops running all day on apprenticeship programmes, university courses and advice when applying. The conference is free and will run from 2:30pm. In previous years, these sixth formers have run assemblies to lower years in their school to create a positive impact on their peers. King’s College London taster courses The faculty of Arts & Humanities are running taster events in a variety of subjects like French, Theology or Film.
