Mike Bongiorno e tre epoche di televisione italiana Nel mese di marzo un personaggio televisivo ha lasciato l’azienda per la quale lavorava da quasi 30 anni. Il personaggio si chiama Mike Bongiorno e ha abbandonato Mediaset per andare a lavorare a Sky. La notizia è importante soprattutto per l’età del personaggio: Mike Bongiorno è nato il 26 maggio 1924 a New York e oggi ha quasi 85 anni. In Italia Mike Bongiorno è diventato famoso insieme alla televisione. E’ stato cioè il primo personaggio televisivo popolare di grande successo. Il critico televisivo del Corriere della Sera Aldo Grasso ha così riassunto la sua carriera: ”Mike Bongiorno è stato il primo presentatore della Rai, anno 1954. Mike è stato il primo presentatore di Canale 5, anno 1980. Mike sarà la star starter di Sky Uno”. Alcune informazioni per chi non conosce la televisione italiana. La Rai è stata la prima televisione italiana in assoluto ed è una televisione pubblica. Canale 5 è stata la prima televisione privata nazionale, mentre Sky è la maggiore televisione satellitare. Con la sua carriera, si può quindi dire che Mike Bongiorno è stato il protagonista dell’inizio delle tre epoche della televisione della nazione. La vita di Mike Bongiorno è stata avventurosa anche prima della televisione. Il nonno paterno Michelangelo era emigrato dalla Sicilia negli Stati Uniti e Mike, infatti, nacque a New York. Da giovane andò a vivere a Torino, città della madre, dove frequentò il liceo, e durante la seconda guerra mondiale lasciò gli studi per unirsi ai partigiani che combattevano per liberare l’Italia dall’occupazione nazista. -

Biografia Carlo Principini è un produttore e regista. Studia Lettere e Filosofia presso l’Università degli studi La Sapienza di Roma. Inizia a lavorare nel mondo dello spettacolo nel 1977 presso la RAI, negli studi radiofonici di via Asiago. Dal 1977 al 1984 segue come regista ed autore molti programmi radiofonici lavorando con attori e personaggi famosi quali: Giulio Bramieri, Mike Bongiorno, Oreste Lionello, Loretta Goggi, Enrico Montesano, Raffaella Carrà, Fabrizio Frizzi, Gigi Proietti, Heather Parisi, Rita Pavone, Maurizio Costanzo, Milva, Alberto Bevilacqua e molti altri, spaziando dal genere del varietà a quello delle commedie radiofoniche. Dirige un varietà radiofonico che ha come co-autori Michele Guardì e Antonello Falqui. Quest'ultimo lo chiama in TV come produttore (nel frattempo è stato assunto in organico della RAI come programmista-regista) del suo show "Al Paradise". Al Paradise vince la "Rose d'Or” (massimo riconoscimento mondiale per i varietà TV) al festival di Montreux. Dal 1984 al 1991 lavora in RAI come produttore-regista-autore, seguendo molti programmi di successo, come "Domenica In", "Fantastico", "I Promessi Sposi” (con il trio Lopez-Marchesini Solenghi), “Uno Mattina", "Un disco per l'estate", "Un due tre RAI", "Tutto in una notte", "Festival di Sanremo" e tanti altri. Ha lavorato come regista delle riprese TV di "Allacciare le cinture di sicurezza" con il trio Lopez-Marchesini Solenghi dal Teatro Sistina in Roma. Nel 1991 lascia la RAI e approda a Telemontecarlo in qualità di Direttore dei Programmi, realizzando molte trasmissioni con Luciano Rispoli, Simona Ventura, Fabio Fazio, Alessia Marcuzzi e molti altri. A seguito della crisi di TMC, dovuta al crollo dell'impero Montedison, proprietaria dell'emittente, lascia Telemontecarlo e inizia l'attività di free-lance. -

Does Language Loss Follow a Principled Structural Path? Evidence from Jersey Norman French Professor Mari C. Jones French Section, Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Peterhouse, University of Cambridge 1. Introduction This study considers five hypotheses about contact-induced change made within the framework of Carol Myers-Scotton’s Abstract Level model of linguistic structure and her 4-M model of morpheme classification (see, for example, Myers-Scotton 2002; Myers-Scotton and Jake 2017). It examines a linguistic variety which is undergoing heavy structural and lexical contact, namely Jersey Norman French (Jèrriais to its speakers), the indigenous Norman variety spoken in Jersey, one of the British Channel Islands, which lie off France’s Cherbourg Peninsula.i As a consequence of Jersey’s steady anglicisation, in particular since the late 19th century, the number of speakers of Jèrriais has declined to the point where intergenerational transmission has ceased (Jones 2001, 2015). Today, Jèrriais is spoken by, at a conservative 2 estimate, some 1,000 speakers (i.e. fewer than 1% of the current population), most of whom are elderly (States of Jersey 2012:8). However, despite the fact that, today, English dominates every linguistic domain of island life, many of the remaining speakers of Jèrriais still use the language on a daily basis even though, for most, it may no longer represent their main everyday language (see §2 below and cf. -

La nascita della televisione in Italia e le caratteristiche degli studi 1 La nascita della televisione nel nostro paese è ormai nota nelle sue date fondamentali ed è anzi circondata da una fitta aneddotica e da molti contributi di carattere memorialistico. Le due più ampie storie della televisione italiana, quelle di Franco Monteleone e quella di Aldo Grasso, 2 e più complessivamente il lavoro di questi studiosi, partono rispettivamente dalla vicenda istituzionale del broadcasting e dai suoi programmi; testi significativi sono stati dedicati all’analisi del pubblico televisivo. 3 Siamo invece sostanzialmente privi di una analisi sistematica dei testi televisivi - pur nella particolare accezione che questa parola assume all’interno di un palinsesto di programmazione e, più tardi, di un flusso – che abbia una complessità e la rete di rimandi paratestuali paragonabile a quella che gli studi cinematografici hanno messo a punto a partire dagli Sessanta soprattutto per iniziativa di Christian Metz e Raymond Bellour. 4 Questa lacuna può solo in piccola parte spiegarsi con la nota “deperibilità tecnica” dei materiali televisivi e sulla loro scarsa reperibilità anche quando sono conservati, 5 ed è probabilmente un residuo di una concezione culturalmente “bassa” della televisione che la legittima, come oggetto di studio, soltanto quando si studiano i suoi “poteri” veri o presunti o le sue vicende istituzionali, dominate da complessi rapporti con la politica e il mercato: una opinione presente anche fra gli studiosi di cinema per la minor qualità dell’immagine televisiva.6 I programmi televisivi sarebbero così ovvi, semplici e banali, e comunque presenti nella memoria collettiva, che non varrebbe la pena di studiarli a fondo. -

The Rhaeto-Romance Languages
Romance Linguistics Editorial Statement Routledge publish the Romance Linguistics series under the editorship of Martin Harris (University of Essex) and Nigel Vincent (University of Manchester). Romance Philogy and General Linguistics have followed sometimes converging sometimes diverging paths over the last century and a half. With the present series we wish to recognise and promote the mutual interaction of the two disciplines. The focus is deliberately wide, seeking to encompass not only work in the phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and lexis of the Romance languages, but also studies in the history of Romance linguistics and linguistic thought in the Romance cultural area. Some of the volumes will be devoted to particular aspects of individual languages, some will be comparative in nature; some will adopt a synchronic and some a diachronic slant; some will concentrate on linguistic structures, and some will investigate the sociocultural dimensions of language and language use in the Romance-speaking territories. Yet all will endorse the view that a General Linguistics that ignores the always rich and often unique data of Romance is as impoverished as a Romance Philogy that turns its back on the insights of linguistics theory.
