Malaysia’s 14th General Election Mahathir Returns to Power May 10th, 2018 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY In an outcome that surprised everyone, the opposition coalition led by Dr Mahathir Mohamad won the majority of the Parliamentary seats, enabling him to form the next Federal Government. Mahathir’s Pakatan Harapan (PH) or Coalition of Hope together with a Sabah opposition party won 121 of the 222 Parliamentary seats. The outgoing government coalition, National Front (BN) won only 79 seats. The Islamist party, Pan Malaysia Islamic Party (PAS) won 18 seats. The remaining four seats were won by independent candidates and another small opposition party. At the state level, PH now controls five out of the 13 state governments. PH may end up with as many as seven states once the process of forming state governments is completed. The transition process at the Federal level is likely to be smooth with Mahathir acknowledging the role of the head of the civil service in managing the transfer of power. In the coming weeks, it is very likely that the new Federal administration will focus on ensuring a smooth and orderly transition. THE TRANSITION PROCESS Barring any mass defection of PH Members of Parliament, Mahathir is likely to be sworn in as the Prime Minister in the coming days. As expected, the swearing in ceremony has been delayed for unknown reasons. Following his swearing in as the Prime Minister, Mahathir will negotiate with other PH parties on distribution of Cabinet positions. The slow process in Cabinet appointments is unlikely to cause major disruptions to essential services as the government machinery is operated by career civil servants who are not affected by electoral politics. -

Tan Sri Dr. Ali was appointed as the Director-General of the Public Private Partnership Unit (UKAS), a central agency created to spearhead Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiatives, namely privatisation projects, Private Finance Initiatives (PFI), corridor Going the Extra Mile : Search development and facilitation funds in 2009. Antara sektor perkhidmatan itu adalah pengangkutan, penginapan serta makanan dan minuman. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kuantitatif melalui pengedaran borang soal selidik. Untuk itu, seramai 150 orang responden terlibat dalam kajian ini. Hasil kajian menunjukkan daripada lapan penyataan untuk pemilihan sektor perkhidmatan, lima menunjukkan skor min ‘tinggi’ antara 3.62 hingga 3.95 dan tiga mencatatkan skor min ‘sederhana’ dalam julat 2.99 hingga 3.09. Seterusnya, skor min tertinggi adalah 3.95 untuk penggunaan sektor perkhidmatan pengangkutan iaitu bas, van, grab dan lain-lain yang lebih murah agar kuasa beli meningkat. Manakala skor min terendah pula adalah memilih untuk makan di restoran (seperti coffee house, bistro, cafe dll.) yang lebih berkualiti (privasi dan persekitaran yang tenteram) meskipun kuasa beli tidak meningkat. Tuan Yang di-Pertua, operasi Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia telah ditutup sepenuhnya berkuat kuasa pada 30 Oktober 2017 setelah didapati bahawa objektif penubuhannya tidak berkesan, yang mana telah menelan perbelanjaan sebanyak RM300 juta untuk diwujudkan. Walau bagaimanapun, program KR1M telah distrukturkan dan dijenamakan semula kepada KR1M 2.0 bermula pada bulan Februari 2018, di mana dua rakan strategik telah dilantik untuk menawarkan barangan yang ditetapkan oleh kementerian pada harga yang berpatutan. -

Sejajar dengan pembangunan ekonomi, kerajaan telah memperkenalkan pelbagai insentif untuk menaiktaraf kualiti hidup rakyat khususnya bagi penduduk yang berpendapatan rendah. Bagi mengatasi isu miskin bandar yang kian meningkat, kerajaan telah memperkenalkan konsep 1Malaysia yang merangkumi pelbagai aspek pembangunan khususnya dalam bidang ekonomi dan sosial. Tujuan kajian ini dijalankan adalah untuk mengenalpasti implikasi dan faedah insentif 1Malaysia yang diberikan oleh kerajaan kepada kelompok masyarakat yang berpendapatan rendah. Kajian ini dilaksanakan di empat buah kawasan Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) iaitu PPR Laksamana, PPR Kerinchi, PPR Intan Baiduri, dan PPR Sungai Bonus. Setiap PPR akan diwakili 10 peratus daripada jumlah penduduk iaitu 35 orang bagi PPR Laksamana, 160 orang penduduk dari PPR Kerinchi, 100 orang PPR Intan Baiduri dan 30 orang penduduk daripada PPR Sungai Bonus. Hasil kajian mendapati kebanyakan penduduk menyokong insentif 1Malaysia yang diperkenalkan oleh pihak kerajaan dari segi kemudahan kesihatan, pendidikan, ekonomi dan sosial. Ini bermakna -

Nobody comes between me and my cousin, says Hisham MalaysiaKini.com June 3, 2015 By Kow Gah Chie Hishammuddin Hussein has revealed that blood is indeed thicker than water and dismissed claims of a rift between him and his cousin, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. Speaking at a press conference this evening, the defence minister stressed that nobody could drive a wedge between them. "Those who try to instigate a fight between the premier and I will not be successful, take my word for it," he said after chairing a post cabinet meeting today. "Speaking of resigning from cabinet posts, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin would have resigned yesterday, together with few cabinet ministers," he said sarcastically. Hisham was referring to rumours which claimed Muhyiddin (photo) would resign after he returned to Malaysia last night from an overseas trip, and another cabinet minister, Shafie Apdal, would be handing in his resignation soon. He also claimed there were certain quarters who simply did not want to see them moving forward as a team in resolving 1MDB issues. Hisham also reiterated his denial on quitting the cabinet over differences with Najib regarding the debt-laden 1MDB. He also addressed his controversial tweet which was interpreted by some as not supporting Najib wholeheartedly as he had spelt out three conditions - rationalisation, accountability and transparency, to resolve issues relating to 1MDB. According to him, the government had made progress in realising the conditions. He pointed out the cabinet had discussed on 1MDB's rationalisation, while the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and Auditor-General's Chambers are probing the GLC's accounts.
