  • Nobody Comes Between Me and My Cousin, Says Hisham Malaysiakini.Com June 3, 2015 by Kow Gah Chie
Nobody comes between me and my cousin, says Hisham MalaysiaKini.com June 3, 2015 By Kow Gah Chie Hishammuddin Hussein has revealed that blood is indeed thicker than water and dismissed claims of a rift between him and his cousin, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. Speaking at a press conference this evening, the defence minister stressed that nobody could drive a wedge between them. "Those who try to instigate a fight between the premier and I will not be successful, take my word for it," he said after chairing a post cabinet meeting today. "Speaking of resigning from cabinet posts, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin would have resigned yesterday, together with few cabinet ministers," he said sarcastically. Hisham was referring to rumours which claimed Muhyiddin (photo) would resign after he returned to Malaysia last night from an overseas trip, and another cabinet minister, Shafie Apdal, would be handing in his resignation soon. He also claimed there were certain quarters who simply did not want to see them moving forward as a team in resolving 1MDB issues. Hisham also reiterated his denial on quitting the cabinet over differences with Najib regarding the debt-laden 1MDB. He also addressed his controversial tweet which was interpreted by some as not supporting Najib wholeheartedly as he had spelt out three conditions - rationalisation, accountability and transparency, to resolve issues relating to 1MDB. According to him, the government had made progress in realising the conditions. He pointed out the cabinet had discussed on 1MDB's rationalisation, while the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and Auditor-General's Chambers are probing the GLC's accounts.

  • Up to Police to Act on Three Mps Who Allegedly Flout OSA – Zahid Bernama Oct 31, 2016
Up to Police to Act on Three MPs who allegedly Flout OSA – Zahid Bernama Oct 31, 2016 KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- Any action on three members of Parliament, who are also former Cabinet members, who allegedly revealed government secrets in the Dewan Rakyat, will be decided by police in accordance with the law. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said police would hand over the results of the investigation to the Attorney-General to make the charges if it was found that the speeches of the individuals flouted the Official Secrets Act (OSA) 1972. He said although members of Parliament had parliamentary privilege when speaking in the Dewan Rakyat or Dewan Negara, they were bound by the OSA and the government secrecy and ethics oath, and this was still applicable although they were no longer a member of the government administration. "This must be complied with and be a reminder to us all," said Ahmad Zahid to reporters after attending the launching of the book 'Being Abdullah Ahmad Badawi' by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, here, today. Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, said despite differing in opinions, the question of principle and national laws must be complied with. Former Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, former Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and former Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah allegedly divulged government secrets when touching on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) while debating the 2017 Supply Bill in the Dewan Rakyat recently. Meanwhile, UMNO Information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the police investigation against Ahmad Husni did not reflect that the immunity and freedom of expression of MPs to criticise the government had been erased.

  • Hindraf Wants Fresh Start with Pakatan to Unseat BN Malaysiakini.Com October 01,2011
Hindraf wants fresh start with Pakatan to unseat BN Malaysiakini.com October 01,2011 Hindraf-HRP said it was time to set aside differences with Pakatan Rakyat and work out a joint strategy to defeat Umno-BN in the next general election. HRP W Samulingam“We are pushing the reset button; Hindraf’s approach will take a new dimension,” said Hindraf national coordinator W Samulingam (right) in a press conference at their Kuala Lumpur headquarters today. “We recognise that we have had problems with Pakatan ... however it is not the time to quarrel on those issues, but time to set aside or differences and work out a strategy and synergy that is absolutely necessary and truly possible to capture Putrajaya,” added national advisor N Ganesan. Ganesan admits that Hindraf cannot oust the ruling party on its own, but said that “recent trends” show that Pakatan “will not be able to pull off the ouster of Umno on their own either”. He said according to an estimate by the Socio-Economic & Environmental Research Institute of Penang, the opposition needs a net swing of 6 percent in their favour if they hope to take Putrajaya. Meanwhile their own research on past voting patterns, a projected 20 to 50 percent swing in Indian votes away from Pakatan might cost Pakatan up to 18 Parliamentary seats and the states of Selangor, Perak and Kedah. Should the scenario become reality, it may mean the “glue” that holds Pakatan together would come apart and party differences would take over and could possibly undo the coalition, he said.
