Lvmh Announces Shortlist of 23 Designers for the 2016 Lvmh Prize for Young Fashion Designers PRESS RELEASE LVMH ANNOUNCES SHORTLIST OF 23 DESIGNERS FOR THE 2016 LVMH PRIZE FOR YOUNG FASHION DESIGNERS Paris, February 22th, 2016 The third edition of the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers has once again received nearly 1,000 entries from more than 50 countries. This year, 23 talented young designers have been chosen as semi-finalists by the in-house selection committee, under the supervision of Delphine Arnault, who comments: “In 2016, the LVMH Prize welcomes candidates from Japan, China, the United States, Canada, England, Finland, Germany and France, as well as Malaysia and Iran. This is what defines the singularity of the LVMH Prize: it is the first fashion prize that is completely international and digital, and which can bring together in Paris individualities of such diverse, original stylistic expressions. Men’s fashions remain well represented and streetwear continues to make a statement without calling into question the high tradition of women’s ready-to-wear. As a leader in the industry, it is the LVMH Group’s responsibility to identify and help young designers grow.” Among the fashion designers selected for the third edition of the LVMH Prize, 6 are menswear designers, 7 design both women’s and men’s wear, and 10 are exclusively womenswear designers. As Bernard Arnault puts it: “Innovation is more powerful when it springs from a preserved heritage.” In métiers as diverse as fashion, jewelry, perfumes, leather goods, winemaking or watches, LVMH brands and designers stand apart in their quest for excellence, and their unique passion for innovation, invention and creativity. Because both its roots and future are intimately linked to creativity, LVMH and its brands have always actively nourished creative talent. Creativity is one of the Group’s core values, guiding all its teams, from designers to noses to cellar masters. This engagement inspires all LVMH houses to actively support creativity in every form. The Louis Vuitton Foundation for contemporary art opened to the public in October this year, for that reason, in a sumptuous building created by Frank Gehry, adding to LVMH’s lasting sponsorship of the arts. Motivated by this “passion for creativity”, LVMH has for many years supported the world of fashion globally through corporate philanthropic initiatives (which will continue following the launch of the new LVMH Prize), including: • the ANDAM Fashion Awards (Association Nationale de Développement des Arts de la Mode) • the Hyères International Fashion and Photography Festival • Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design in London • the investment fund for young designers created by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication. Today, this same passion has led the LVMH Group to launch the LVMH Young Fashion Designers Prize. This initiative helps drive the momentum and emergence of fresh talent that are essential to the vitality and diversity of the fashion ecosystem, a role that is perfectly in phase with the responsibilities of a Group that has become the world leader in luxury. • Arent Fox “Landlord Program” Eradicates Illegal Counterfeits of Clients’ Products at “Counterfeit Triangle”
O Arent Fox “Landlord Program” Eradicates Illegal Counterfeits of Clients’ Products at “Counterfeit Triangle” June 3, 2008 New York City recently conducted the largest seizure of illegal counterfeit merchandise in its history, recovering $1 million in counterfeit merchandise and closing three Canal Street buildings described by Mayor Michael Bloomberg as “one of the most notorious shopping malls.” Shari Hyman, director of the Mayor’s Office of Special Enforcement, labeled the closed buildings as “the worst of the worst in this business.” The city’s action follows several civil actions against Canal Street landlords brought by Arent Fox on behalf of several fashion companies who faced a growing problem that had thwarted prior efforts to combat it. Seeking new strategies, these brand owners hired Arent Fox to impose liability on Canal Street landlords who knew about their tenants’ illegal activities but remained willfully blind to the problem. Arent Fox developed an innovative “landlord program” that required the landlords to take specific steps to stop counterfeiting, including hanging signs warning consumers that the tenant was not authorized to sell plaintiffs’ brands, specifically prohibiting counterfeiting in the leases, hiring a monitor to ensure tenants’ compliance, and evicting any tenant selling counterfeits. The buildings closed by New York City officials were already subject to a consent injunction Arent Fox obtained as part of this program on behalf of Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, Kenzo, Loewe and Burberry. The city’s seizure notably did not uncover counterfeit merchandise of any of brands represented by Arent Fox (with the exception of a few Burberry perfume bottles), although it did find a significant amount of other well-known brands not covered by the injunction.

Industry | 73 Patrician An audience with Philippe Pascal – head of watches and jewellery at LVMH Nicholas Foulkes 1 It seems that one of the key criteria when commissioning an architect to design your luxury HQ is to infuse the project with a palpable sense of awe. Much as the medieval indigent would feel on spying the impregnable walls of a ruler’s castle; or how a pilgrim is awed into silence at the end of his journey; so, it would seem, the luxury bosses want visitors to feel when entering their lairs. Cartier is one example – a steel and glass fortress practically covering an entire city block. LVMH on the Avenue Montaigne is another. As if the building was not humbling enough, I was here to meet the man responsible for the group’s entire jewellery and wristwatch portfolio – TAG Heuer was bought by LVMH in 1999 and has quickly established itself as the world’s leading sports TAG and Zenith included. Bernard Arnault, 70, There are three men whose assets are worth more than is a self-made man. 100 billion dollars: the Americans, Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, and for some days now, the Frenchman, Bernard Arnault, Chairman of LVMH. Thanks to a surge in the ac- tions of his luxury multinational, Mr. Arnault has just re- cently surpassed 100 billion. This is what has been re- vealed by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which ranks the fortunes of billionaires in real time once they have been listed on the stock exchange. Bernard Arnault and his wife Hélène Mercier. 2019 has been quite a phenomenal year for Mr. Arnault. In just six months his net worth has increased almost by USD$ 32 billion. At 70 years of age, he be- comes the first Frenchman in history to enter the ranks of centibillionaires with a sum that is equivalent to 3 per cent of France’s GDP (the performances of Francois Pinault, the head of Kering, and Francois Bettencourt Meyers, heiress of the L’Oréal group, have also been quite outstanding). “I really admire Apple. I use an iPhone myself,” said Mr. Arnault during one of his rare interviews a few years ago on the American television channel, CNBC. He adds, “but in twenty years’ time, is it guaranteed that people will still be us- ing an iPhone? Not really. On the other hand, I can assure you that they will still be drinking Dom Pérignon champagne.” Delphine Arnault executive vice president of Louis Vuitton Such staying power is the cornerstone of LVMH’s suc- cess.
